Most realistic hitting mode
I'm sure this has been discussed in multiple threads over the years. But I seem to be having difficulty settling on a hitting type for the game. I like zone and feel it's more reflective of real life hitting. At the same time, I also like directional. I think in some instances it replicates true to life hitting as well. The problem I am having is I use analog with stride which makes zone hitting very difficult. With directional, I also use analog w/stride but is more forgiving. So my dilemma is even though I think zone analog is most realistic, it's just too damn hard to play franchise games with. I even use practice mode before every game and I still struggle. That leaves me with directional with analog. I hit better, but still not great. I'm leaning towards using directional full time because it's a bit easier and also is realistic in terms of situational hitting. Just curious as to what the concensus is for most hitting accurate representation among players of the Show.

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
I never use anything but directional. I have never used zone, so I dont really know enough to speak on it. But I will say this for directional: Its damn good fun, and its realistic enough for me, in terms of replicatings stats.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Most realistic hitting mode
Nah that analog stride with zone is for the birds. It's the most realistic I guess but you gotta just zone hit with button press swing.
Analog with zone seems hard just thinking about it.

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
The most realistic is directional hands down. And thats not just because I'm a directional hitter. Zone allows for user skill to have to large an impact when batting.
Now I'm not knocking zone, it's perfectly fine and you can get good results from it. But to me personally I want ratings first and foremost. I see zone as like online Madden it's the arcade like option.
Please don't think I'm comparing the Show to Madden, Madden doesn't deserve that much respect. Its just a comparison. Like have you ever watched Madden comp. On tv? Nohing about it is run or looks like football.

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
Both zone and directional are realistic. The question is how do you want to experience the game.
Using directional the outcome is more heavily influenced by player attributes. In practice this means you might be sitting on a particular pitch and time it perfectly, but you will pop it up to the pitcher due to player attributes.
Using zone the outcome is more influenced by your skill level, but attributes are still present. There certainly will be scenarios where you sit on a pitch, properly time it, and place the PCI directly on it yet still hit a routine popup to the center fielder, but results tend to be more influenced by what you did. Zone provides more opportunity to have an impact on the outcome, which includes the opportunity to negatively influence the outcome.
I'm almost exclusively a zone player because it suits the way I want to experience the game. That being I don't want attributes to influence all the outcomes, but rather I want my successes to be my successes and my failures to be my failures.
There is a lot of noise and misinformation on this board regarding directional versus zone. Zone hitters claim directional is easier. I haven't tried directional in 2017, but in 2015 and 2016 directional was actually harder and more frustrating. Directional players claim zone is arcade, but the reality is that zone has been reigned in and produces similar statistics.
Do you want player attributes to produce the results or do you want your skill to produce the results with attributes being control mechanism to keep success/failure in check? This answer indicates which hitting mode you should use. Anybody who says one or the other is better is full of it. The devs have balanced the game to ensure neither mode is better than the other.Comment

Dude asked what's most replicable to having a bat in his hand and you answered his question perfectly except you didn't pick the right option. You're 100% right when you say zone allows more for user skill, which makes it the correct option if you want to feel like you have a bat in you're hand. Directional is more of you want to get realistic stats and not control too much of the game.
Depending on ones skill level and the skill level they are playing on, zone offers the greatest challenge and reward. Zone hitting on all star difficult is a joke for anyone with talent at this game, but zone hitting on legend is the ultimate challenge for the highly skilled user. To answer the OP's question, it's actually impossible to answer. Because only you know you're skill level. You might be too good for directional. You might be too bad for zone. You have to figure that out for yourself. But zone gives you, the person playing the game, the most control over you're hitting.Uncle Ray Ray wants to Play!!Comment

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
If you want the answer, it's indeed analog + zone with stride difficulty at 10, gives most 1 to 1 feeling from pitcher windup all the way through.
One of my, "little favorite things" is when I'm clueless how to approach a pitcher, largely due to these controls, and I let him have a free pitch just to time my stride with his delivery..
As a said, it gives the most 1 to 1 perspective holding the bat in your hands and timing your virtual body to size up a pitch.
Personally, I go with pitch speed at 10 and alot of other extreme disabling of aids. I played with zone buttons for the longest even after they introduced analog in 2012. When I took the plunge, it took me at least 3-4 months to even begin using analog and zone for season modes and then much more practice after that. and That's way before I upped the pitch speed from it's default.
As for results, that's all about gameplay conditions and your skill level regardless of the control scheme. The only thing I'll say is it's worth the investment to learn to play this way. I've had to skip the last two games because they took out these controls, and I haven't missed those games one iota.Last edited by @legendm0de; 04-03-2017, 08:21 PM.Red LegendComment

Also I don't want people thinking I'm calling zone arcade, I was simple using that comparison in regards to online and offline Madden. No interface in this game is arcade, you can get great realistic results with all of them. Its just how great this game is built.
But no having to aim your bat before you swing is not realistic to actual hitting. However if your after most accurate to really hitting you have to use some form of analog with stride.

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
zone plus analog with stride. learn your batters stride and time it from when he starts to when he is ready to swing(when his foot is down usually) then time the pitchers windup to when his fastball gets 2/3 of way to the plate. time it like so. count 12345678910 etc without stopping in between. lol then do the math if it takes 15 counts for his fastball to get 2/3 to the plate and it takes your batter 5 counts to get his foot down then begin your stride at the count of 10. 11 if you think you are gonna get a breaking ball. make sure you have some good grips on your thumbsticks or you will have trouble laying off balls.Comment

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
Then it would be directional with stride enabled. It doesn't simulate swinging a bat to aim then swing. You don't aim your bat when hitting. You can be looking to go a certain way with like with swing influence. But actual hitting is see ball hit ball, easy in theory hard in practice.

Re: Most realistic hitting mode
Full stride analog on Directional is more what is described. You still have to time up the stride, you can still decide influence, and you can still go with the pitch by influencing the right stick when you swing.
