Re: The hitting in this game is off...
Same thing happens with NBA2k, onliners whine and moan, and by the time the devs are done they have patched and tuning they have taken out all the realism. Thats 1 reason why I never have played online in any game, to many casual fans of the sport that are clueless play online.
The devs with MLBTS tend not to jump everytime someone whines about something broke online luckily. Not saying that the OP is crying about anything, hitting on The Show can be difficult, which IRL it is as well
Second of all, chances are if you are on this forum and take the time to post your are most likely not a "noob". I have been playing the show since papi was on the cover. In all my years playing the show I have never played one game online. OSFM franchise exclusively.
Third of all I haven't heard one person in this thread ask for a patch. Just saying. I do agree with you that every year sports games are ruined by month 3 by the constant patches. Madden 17, UFC 2, and NHL 17 all became unplayable months after release.Last edited by Nolove626; 04-04-2017, 05:39 PM.Comment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
Obviously this from Caulfield lol.
But to combine what he said into what you said, what pitch speeds are you using? Personally I love 10 because no matter where I go 10 is 10 lol. Go to my friends house? 10 is 10.
I guess what I'm saying is if I get a hold of it for a HR on 10 I'm satisfied lol. Not to mention it'll get you a more realistic amount of swing and misses.
Has anyone ever run a test with these sliders to see which represents the most realistic time to the plate?Comment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
Just tried this out and put my pitch speed on 10...WOW it's actually amazing. Not sure why I never thought of bumping this up before. Offspeed pitches actually look sharp, and a pitcher with late movement is as nasty as it should be. .
Has anyone ever run a test with these sliders to see which represents the most realistic time to the plate?
But just common sense thinking it has to be closer to realistic at 10. While obviously still being slower than real life action, 10 has to be the closest.
Glad you're enjoying it though, once you get used to it and start hitting you'll never be able to slow down again it just feels horrible. Its not really as big an adjustment as a lot of people think either. And it's even better this year with the improved frame rates[emoji1]

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
First of all, nobody is whining. We are having a constructive discussion and no one is bashing the game. It's a great game. I am merely saying that the hitting feels weird this year. I even said that hey the game is new, I may need some time getting used to the different mechanics. Most of the people in his thread have provided positive feedback to make the game more enjoyable for us that hitting feels a little strange to.

Definitely wasnt calling you or anyone in this forum a whiner if you happen to play online, so hopefully I didnt offend anyone.
Seems most of those who do play MLBTS online arent like those who play NBA2k online. It seems those who do play The Show online actually understand the game, where as those onliners that play NBA2k, tend to not be as bright about basketball. not all of them, but enough that end up getting the devs to cater to them, which in turn ruins the gameplay for others as myself. Thankfully the dves of MLBTS dont do that.
I know hitting cant be frustrating at times, as you can really crank things up with the difficulty then additionally with sliders. I admire those who are able to play on the highest level, and then tune the sliders to make it even harder. Not sure back when I was young and healthy that I could have played like that, lol.
Something I really like that the devs added to this game a few years back, is the dynamic difficulty, for thos of us old guys, whos reaction time and reflexes arent what they use to be, this works very well.
It took me a while to give in to using dynamic difficulty with hitting, but it was either give up playing the game and going the route of OOTP baseball, or give in and use the dynamic difficulty. It gives you a good guage to where you can set the difficulty, so your still getting realistic stats, and still have that feel of slumps that you go thru in baseball IRL.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
I agree. Too many people (gamers, fans, etc) just don't understand what it is like to stand in the box with a professional pitcher on the mound. It's one of the hardest things in all of sports (and for me it was downright scary sometimes).
Professional hitters are going to hit the ball hard if they are sitting on something and they see it... but that still only translates into a .300 average. It's not very often that they are going to see that pitch. And when they do, they have a split second to realize that it's in their wheelhouse and not at their head.
There is a pretty loud discussion going on now within MLB about the game being too boring. Sure the downtime and game length are an issue, but what is more troubling is that a huge chunk of the ABs are ending in strike outs.
If we had a true MLB simulation, we'd all be bored as hell.Comment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
In all sincerity, I think this is a seriously underrated part of hitting. I'm almost 40 and I'm starting to wonder if I need to retire my PS4 because the reflexes that allowed me to hit baseballs and read defenses in Madden just ain't there anymore.Comment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
I was skeptical of it at first and it took me a while to give in, but I wasnt quite ready to give up on playing on the console, just yet for going the text sim route of OOTP baseball, so I gave in to my stubberness and tried dynamic out. Im on so much pain killers and muscle relaxers due to health, that I had no choice if I was going to continue on playing MLBTS. To my surprise it was done extremely well by them. I thought, m stats would be inflated and the CPU wouldnt have a chance till I moved up to where I needed to be in difficulty, but that wasnt the case really. It plays out real well and mvoes you up quickly if your doing well, so your not getting ridiculous inflated stats. Wish I had given in earlier to this than I did. Now I think I will be able to enjoy MLBTS hopefully quite a few more years, before having to move to the text sim route.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
This is not unique to this revision of the game, as it was prevalent in 2016. In 2016 I came to the conclusion that it was better to be early or late than obtain a green on-time status. From a zone perspective, 2017 is an improvement, but it is clearly still better to be early or late.Comment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
You're a directional hitter. I know you're a directional hitter, because if you were a zone hitter you would said "Late.... home run.... early.... home run... right on time.... fly out to center fielder or line drive out to middle infielder"

The Show treats "good" timing as a certain spot between the pitcher and the hitter. Not necessarily a timing thing. I'm not saying it's designed this way but that's pretty much how the feedback system is working anyway.
And besides to get back to talking about realism it's not realistic to have it on anyway.

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
Well depending on pitch placement/launch angle/pitch type. That accurately correlates to real life hitting. This is why I always recommend turning off the feedback.

In real life there are a number of physical items that provide feedback. The most obvious is the feel of the contact, but that is only the last feedback input and largely a result of what happened before. Starting too late, over striding, casting the hands, raising the front elbow, swinging with the arms rather than body, not getting the elbow in the slot, etc., are all feedback mechanisms from which I can evaluate and make an adjustment. In the video game world, PCI placement and timing substitute all the above. Thus I fail to see how it is unrealistic. Please educate me...I'm very much open to an alternative perspectiveComment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
I play on All Star for both pitching and hitting and I have been hitting only slightly more homeruns than last year with default sliders. The only sliders I touch are fastball and offspeed pitch speed because at default it is way too slow. Even this year with both sliders up to about 90% the pitch speed seems slower than last year. I think that is why I am hitting pretty well. I'll just have to move up to the next difficulty level if it continues.Comment

Re: The hitting in this game is off...
I play with strike zone and hot zones turned off. I occasionally play with PCI turned off. But I cannot fathom playing with feedback turned off. I'm open to the possibility that I lack skill and thus rely on it as a crutch. But I fail to see how it is unrealistic.

All it is is timing, and on top of that the "good" timing isn't actually what good timing would be on most pitches. "Good" timing on a inside pitch according to feedback isn't actually "good" timing, you're late you should've been early.
It's like the example I used earlier a get thrown a high fastball and foul it off, I know I was late I can feel it and see it in the swing and how the ball came off the bat. But what does the feedback say? "Good" timing, no it wasn't good I was late and I know it.
All feedback does it give you something else to think about/ stress over instead of focusing on the pitcher. Pitch down the middle you pop it up or hit it foul but the feedback says "good" timing, now you're just thinking about why your guy missed it instead of about the pitcher and the next pitch.
Personally I don't guess what's coming, I don't think about what might be coming I see the ball and react. Now yes occasionally on a 2-0, 3-1 count I'm thinking about getting one in my pull zone but I'm not thinking of a specific pitch.
Guess pitch, feedback, strike zones, hot zones while all great features and by all means if you love them use them. But you'll always be behind people that don't use them.
