Idea for my franchise - need some help

So, I'm struggling to decide who to use. I tend to vary year to year. I like to go back and forth from National League to American League. I am a Jays fan and did a franchise with them last year. In the recent past I have done a fantasy draft Nationals, normal roster Astros, and normal roster Reds as well.

I have tried to keep rosters current in the past, I have done straight fantasy draft and I've let the league evolve as it will. I find that they all have their fun aspects.

I use 30 team control and when I have done a fantasy draft, I draft for all 30 teams to allow for a nice, balanced league.

This year, I was torn on running (or continuing) my Jays franchise, or starting another one, picking a new National League team or doing a fantasy draft, and to be honest I am still torn.

I am sitting at work, avoiding being productive, and an idea popped into my head. What about a hybrid? So here is what I am thinking. I am going to be a National league team (just to play in those parks more this year). I am going to draft for all 30 teams and keep each team's core 5 together and fantasy draft from there. The core 5 can be prospects or 25 man roster players. Basically, the 5 players that you would keep if you were the GM of that team. My question to you, to aid me in my decision, is who are the core 5 that would be kept for each team?

Feel free to post for your team, or any team you like below. Thanks for your input.

To clarify, I will be using OSFM, so all of the top prospects will be there.

Ive thought about doing this myself. In my eyes, tigers core is: JV, Miggy, Fulmer, Nick C, Jimenez. Miggy and JV will retire as Tigers. Fulmer is beast. They love Nick and it was difficult between Jimenez and norris
Oakland A's - Seattle Mariners - Detroit Tigers
Pittsburgh Steelers - Green Bay Packers
      Detroit Red Wings

I've mentioned this in other threads.
Last year I made an prospects team, had my own guidelines to go by.
Basically, I chose a team(Astros) and traded away everyone not considered a prospect and acquired (you guessed it) prospects!
It was difficult at first but I did this in Season mode so there were a lot more players available due to smaller roster sizes, more players in Free Agency.
It's a lot of fun as I'm still playing it while I wait for the OSFM rosters, I may even do another after the rosters are released.

        Just an idea.

This is actually a really cool idea, I might would even take it a step further and go with 10-15 guys. Would make fantasy drafting for the league a little easier. How do you go about drafting players once you have the core five drafted though? Seems like a lot of work to determine what position a team should draft. I might use your idea about after the core 5/10 guys, have automatic draft for every team not mine. Really liking this thought of this though. Thanks for sharing!

EDIT: Also if you wanted it to be a little easier and not wait for people to reply, you could take the top 5 players on the team who are say, under 33 or whatever age you want to take and maybe at least 2 years or more under contract. Just a thought.
          .............................................

What parameters are you setting in place? Upcoming free agent that the team will probably not resign IE Darvish and Rangers? It could change things -

I'd probably go with this for the Rangers -
          Odor
          Mazara
          Andrus
          Profar
          Gallo

All young, all starters - although Profar and Gallo are not full time guys

            Thanks!

I plan to use my own thoughts as well, just thought I'd get some other opinions.

How I draft the teams is I try to keep the teams somewhat even. So, in one round, I may draft all starters, which obviously means the top teams get the higher end guys, but then on the way back in the snake draft, I may draft closers, so the teams with the top starters, end up with lower end closers. Then I may do a round with best player available regardless of position, then a round of best player available with respect to positional need. Then I may do half and half with a SS and a CF to help shore up each team's core defense.

I don't set a ton of parameters. I don't pay attention to free agency as I play every game out and won;t get past 2 seasons...if I even get to the second season. I try to give each team a couple top level, near ready prospects and a couple top end long term prospects. One of my favourite things about doing this is the trades that the teams make. The AI seems to make good trades with each ot in this set up.

You got to be an NL East team and give the Nationals payback for deserting Canada

What's your definition of core? Key players or the ones most likely to stick around? I ask because the answer makes the core for the Jays widely different.

                Key players:

                Donaldson
                Bautista
                Estrada
                Happ
                Sanchez

                Most likely to stick around:

                Stroman
                Osuna
                Travis
                Martin
                Pillar

Sanchez is a key player, but he hired Scott Boros as an agent. He's not staying in Toronto past arbitration.

Not to mention the Jays have 4 more years of control. That is ages in MLB. They could win the World Series, crash and burn and be back a promising young team by the time Sanchez is a free agent.

I was mainly concerned if the OP wanted to keep this franchise for a few years and keep teams somewhat similar to where they will be in a fe years, but after reading OP a second time I will concede that Sanchez should be on his list.

This is a cool idea. Cubs core would be Bryant, Rizzo, Russell, Schwarber, Hendricks in my opinion
