I hate to be the bearer of bad news,bt stats are whta determones a person in sports. Sure you can have a down year, or a sudden great year. Don't use Ortiz, heck he used steroids, admitted to it. Could be a reason he saw a sudden spike in performance

Re: Prospect Progression
They switched last yearDude, are you playing MLB 17 or 16? They switched to production based progression this year so statistic are literally the main factor in progression (for example lefty righty splits). I'm not saying I disagree with your point, but this is just a fact.Case in point to prove this true. I had hunter renfro hit 5 home runs against righties and progress 1 point in pwr r. He hit 15 home runs off of lefties and shot up 10 points in pwr L. So if what you are saying is correct then potential has more to do with how he sim engine works then attributes do, which would in fact be 100% a dice roll since every player plays the same because there is no attribute differential. I don't think the game decides okay we'll roughned odor is going to suck this year because there are not enough D potential players. I would actually be interested to see how many A, B, C and D potential players there is on the OSFM rosters to prove that it's not a non default roster issue.

Re: Prospect Progression
So stats are not a reflection of a players abilities? Stats are a result of physical and mental abilities with some luck.
Because a utility player hits .300 does not mean his physical tools have gotten better.
Ratings are a video game measure of a players tools.

Re: Prospect Progression
No they didn't. Not trying to be argumentative but you are wrong. Yes production based production was in the game but it was slight compared to this year. Last year I would have prospects bat under the Mendoza line and still improve their attributes. Even more so if I trained in a specific attribute. Yes, dynamic potential changes were in the game. But if your player was A or B rated he would progress exponentially regardless of how he performed in play. I would throw all of my high rated prospects into AA REgardless their skill level because the gains were far greater than in single A. This year I feel like I have to be careful when I advance guys because they will stall if they don't hitComment

Re: Prospect Progression
How would you suggest every owner in every sport measure someone? Sports is stats based, if you can't produce you don't play. Players receive bonuses based on stats and performance. Awards at the end of the year are based on Stats. Who cares about a guys physical tools if they don't reflect on the field. Heck look at Leonys Martin (a former Ranger) This guy was a 5 tool player that Texas coveted out of Cuba. He was the complete package, or so they say. He did little to nothing for the Rangers Stats wise and was sent packing to Seattle where he also couldn't produce and right now doesn't have a job. Look at Ryan Leaf in Football. Raw tools there., Couldn't read an NFL defense. A utility guy hitting 300 I'll give you that one. He needs to be measured on playing full time, but a Future Hall of Famer with 3,000 hits and close to 500HR's regressing because he is 37, come on. I respect your opinion but I'm positive I am not in the minority when I say Sports is a stats based business and will remain that way. How do video games come up with Ratings? Maybe the 99 rated guys had the best stats, Look at Trout. His Stats got him an MVP, not his god given potentialSo stats are not a reflection of a players abilities? Re: Prospect Progression

So you say he is wrong that they didn't add production based progression last year but then agree that they added production based progression last year.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Prospect Progression
To revisit an old thread in the show you get 6 or 7 draft picks a year. In order to have a functioning league in a few years each team needs about half of their draft picks to progress reliably and predictably into MLB players.Any testing should be done with default rosters. If you use default rosters you will see far fewer retirements due to injury.
My guess is that the system tries to balance the quantity of overall and potential players. Default rosters have more d potential players.
I also think this impacts progressions because the proportion of overall players tends to stay relatively balanced.
I have run numerous sims and seen guys like trout and Harper maintain a 99 for many years or regress. There is randomness built in.
Players tools do not progress once they get past their peak. A player that is 28 does not see an increase in speed, endurance, bat speed etc in real life. Ratings are a reflection of that.
I always use the example of David Ortiz. At age 25 he had a .234 with 18 homeruns. If potential was based on stats he would have regressed. At age 33 he had another .230 avg "down" year.
Stats do not tell the whole story. I would hate to see a day when stats dictate progression. The xp system of development is why I no longer buy Madden.

To compare this to MLB where each team gets 30 draft picks plus international signings doesn't work. IRL if 80% of prospects wash out there are still plenty of players to stock 30 teams with 25 man rosters. In the show if that happens you get pitchers who can't pitch and catchers who can't catch.
I argued this a couple years ago when people wanted more chaos in progression. Chaos won.≡Comment

Re: Prospect Progression
That's a good point. The only thing I'd say is that the lower draft picks have a much lower chance of making the majors but I am sure the higher draft picks also do not make the majors at the same rate as they would in the game.To revisit an old thread in the show you get 6 or 7 draft picks a year. Re: Prospect Progression
Shouldn't this "prospect" discussion be more along the lines of what you need for your big league team?
For instance, I called up a guy to play DH, and 4th outfielder, he is a "C" rated player, average defense, below average power. But his contact rating is around 75, so.....he gets hits. Right now he's batting .335 so who cares what his rating is? I just know where I can fit him in to my lineup.JUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDEComment
