Thought a few people may be interested in this...

I've simmed into 2024 with the Cardinals to get some realistic service time for a CAP I want to use in a later franchise. When I ran into the Braves in the NLCS I had to take a look at their roster as I am planning to use them for my franchise.

I've had CPU roster control on so there have been no trades. Braves were controlled by CPS so auto training, 40 man, contracts, etc.

Dansby Swanson was at 99ovr. Ozzie Albies was at 89.

Maitan 80
Acuna 81
Ruiz 76
Riley 80
Newcomb 85
Blair 96
Anderson 86
Folty 80
Manaea (trade Oakland) 95

Don't know how realistic that is and it sounds like the Hybrid rosters will be looking at this kind of stuff, but I thought it was interesting.

I like it. But perhaps that is only because I've stockpiled Swanson cards, expecting a big year, to be sold later for big profits.

Blair may be a tad high but it's not out of the realm of possibility that Dansby is that high in a few years.

yeah I like to use baseball america to rerate potential and as a 65 low risk player that dont put dansby at 99 potential like the Show has him. he should still be an A potential but A- not A+ IMO
I dont think any current prospect is worthy of a 99 potential in 2017. again my opinion.

I guess I was more surprised at the amount of prospects that made it to the big leagues and also the amount that were rated 95+. It seemed like every team had prospects who had developed to 95+.

Glasnow and Taillon were 97 and 96... There was maybe 4-5 players with 99. Carlos Corea was a 99.

Not unrealistic but added all together it just seemed improbable.

I wonder if the fact that there were no trades for 7 years had anything to do with it.

I think The Show does progression/regression better than any sports franchise really. They also aren't prone to knee jerk reactions to OS and reddit posts like the EA did with their Madden draft classes this year (which ruined them). People always put way too much stock in OVR ratings, there is always a lot more that goes into making a virtual athlete regardless of what game you're talking about.

In what turned out to be my last game in AA ball in season 2 of my RTTS file, a guy I absolutely did not expect to see came up to bat: Chase Utley.

At first I was all "What the--what is HE doing on the Montgomery Biscuits?! He's supposed to be really good, isn't he? I'm not even a baseball fan, and I've heard of him!"

Then I checked out his player card.
He's rated 52 overall...and he's 38 years old.

Ouch. From headlining SportsCenter to desperately clinging to what remains of a career...I don't even follow baseball much, and that was sad to see.
No doubt he'll be retiring at season's end.

I think The Show does progression/regression better than any sports franchise really. I don't want to come off as being negative. It was a pleasant surprise. I guess I haven't played enough to see this kind of development before. There was also a guy who got drafted in 2017 that was an 87. I thought that was cool.

It's actually really got me excited to play a franchise into 2019 and beyond. You can't do this in Madden. When good players retire or regress, the league just ends up full of replacement level guys. Very few draftees make it to all-pro status. They do have sliders to fix it though, which is an idea for The Show.

I understand the Overall is just an average of the ratings and doesn't affect how the player actually performs. But it's the easiest way to indicate that a guy has become a stud.

This is one area that needs some love. Regression and retirement are not realistic. Players like Chase Utley don't get sent back down to the minors to finish their career.

It's also unrealistic that he'd fall of to a point where a 52 rating is an accurate description of his talent. Guys with that much experience in the big leagues will almost always perform better than a 24 year old AA guy and that should be reflected in their ratings.

Im sure the retirement logic is difficult, but there needs to be a way to prevent Ichiro from retiring after every season (2015, 2016, 2017). Guys like this should go to free agency for a period of time before they hang it up.

this part we just cant know who's gonna do what, look at ryan howard though he has yet to play for the braves minors
I dont know if its quite the same but Andruw Jones spent his last 2 years in Japan.
then theres Manny Ramirez, spent his last 3 years in the minors.
Vlad Guerrero spent some time in the minors the year after his final big league appearance so it happens and that part I'm fine with.
now this part I'm on board with. in every test sim I've done Utley falls from his 2017 starting point of 76 to around 60 at the end of 2017.

I dont know why SDS would have Cliff Lee hanging around year after year in FA but continually have Ichiro hang it up. I suppose that part is also too tricky because they did hit the nail on the head last year with Big Papi. What I want to see is a "Checkmark - Allow Player to Retire" option.
