    Stealing Bases

I've been having a major issue with base stealing in a certain situation. A runner on 1st & 3rd. Every time I try to steal with the runner on 1st the runner at 3rd also attempts to steal. What am I doing wrong?

Hold the left stick to the right (which would resemble towards first base), then press the L2 (or hold it if you're using your own timing). Then only the runner on first will steal.

What if I'm using the other option for base running?

If you're using auto base running where they make all the decisions, I don't think it's possible to steal second only in a first and third situation. Ive used auto baserunning for a few years and Ive never figured out how to do it anyways. The only way I can think of is to turn off auto base running for that situation and then turn it back on after you've attempted the steal. Not ideal but no other way to do it really.

I'm talking about the option where you use the d pad instead of the thumb stick.

I do this and my player on 3rd still runs. Haven't messed with the OTB settings. I've just stopped trying to steal in this situation

Make sure you are directly right, like 90 degrees. I've had that problem before, and I swear I fixed it by making sure I am not off a bit.
If you go to the 4 o'clock positing instead, I don't think it registers just one base.

You gotta tap L2 otherwise both runners go.

I figured it out last year after wondering the same thing. To pull off a steal of second in this situation you have to know the difference between a manual and auto steal:

Manual steal= holding R2 and manually releasing as he pitcher begins his windup.

Auto-steal = pressing (but not holding) R2 and releasing much quicker than manual steal. You'll feel a rumble confirming you are stealing. The runner won't take off until the pitch using this method, don't worry.

In order to steal 2nd base on a first and third situation, you have to auto-steal the guy on first.

To do so, hold the right thumb stick right. DO NOT manual steal the runner on 1st, as this will auto-send the runner on third. In other words Right thumbstick right + quick R2 press's.

Try it - thank me later

That was going to be my advice. I used to have that problem and I started noticing that I was just a little off on the left stick and now that never happens. It's a little too sensitive in my opinion

Manual stealing works regardless if there's a guy on third or not. I've never had an issue stealing with the guy on first while manual stealing.

Also, you hold the left stick, not the right stick. And it's also L2, not R2.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, I don't think this warrants its own thread.

A few times in rttp I've taken a lead and held R2 but the pitcher throws to first, I try to hit l1 to retreat but my player just stays frozen in his crouch. Is this an actual bug or am I missing something control wise?

I'm talking about in every mode but RTTS. But in RTTS the easiest thing to do is take your lead using R1. Then hold the thumb stick to the left towards the base. If the pitcher makes a pickoff attempt you'll go back automatically.
