Swing Info possibly showing that hitting is broken?

I play on directional hitting and with the pitch info on so that I can see how my timing is. I have noticed that when I swing at a pitch that isn't inside the yellow reticle that shows up on the swing info, I will nearly always miss, regardless of my timing.

I understand that the point is that the reticle is the part of the zone that the bat crosses, so if a pitch is under it, it should be a swing and a miss. But the issue is that the reticle will be down the middle and not move. I have played with the same settings and I know that in previous years, depending on my timing, the reticle would adjust to make it hit the sweet spot of the bat or be completely off if bad timing. But this year I noticed that the reticle is stuck in the middle and is only larger if the hitter has a higher contact rating.

I have had multiple at bats where I have had "Good" timing (according to the swing info) on ALL THREE PITCHES where they were in the zone, down the middle, but low and just under the reticle and swung and miss at 3 straight. Fastballs and changeups seem to be the two that I will just flat out miss completely, even though my timing is perfect and the ball is literally a hair under the yellow reticle and still well in the zone.

I've never had so many problems hitting until this year. Am I really the only one?

In directional, the PCI shows potential coverage, not actual. So basically if any part of the ball is within that PCI, you're player has a chance to get a solid hit. However directional relies on you're batters stats the most, and they will also miss balls. Yes, even ones you time perfectly and are down the middle.

If you're frustrated by the amount this happens, try turning up the human solid contact slider. Last year I had it all the way at 10 but this year I'm at 7 and I find it's really good.

Also, are you using the directions or are you just using timing swings? I find that picking a direction can help my batter zone in on specific pitches. There are pluses and minuses to all directions, but I find the benefits always outweigh the costs. Check out the Teach me/Strategies thread I've written a ton about directional in there.

The problem with directional hitting is that you are essentially leaving the fate of your contact quality up to a player's rating. If you are playing with a guy with low ratings, the computer will displace your recticle on purpose, or simply place a pitch where your directional contact habits can't do damage.

That's why I switched to the manual PCI. You control where your bat goes through the zone. If you're playing with directional hitting and constantly find yourself aiming for "upward" directional contact, you're going to naturally get penalized by the CPU. It's only going to get worse as humanity AI improves.

That definitely makes some sense. I just have used Timing/Directional ever since playing the game years and years ago, but it just seems like randomly this year I've had an awful time squaring up the ball at all. Maybe adjusting the contact slider a bit may help (and I'm already at a disadvantage playing as a team like the White Sox), and hopefully that will make life a little easier. I'll also try using the directional hitting more than I do because for the most part I tend to just swing, unless of course I'm trying to hit the ball the other way to score a runner from third or move one up from second. I haven't really used the stick upwards, and after 6 games am last in the league with 3 home runs while the highest in the league has 15.

Honestly if I could use the manual hitting I would, but playing on a 4k TV without game mode on, the slight bit of input lag already affects my timing enough as is. I've finally gotten the hang of timing for the most part (as I've been getting "good" timing but still not hitting very well), and I just can't imagine mixing that with having to move the PCI as well.
