    Big Issue with Stealing Bases

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I don't see a topic for it and it's something that definitely needs to be addressed.

At first I thought stealing bases was much harder this year. I'd press the L2 to trigger a steal and almost never got a decent jump, usually being thrown out with elite base runners by 5 feet. And then it happened. . . instead of pressing the L2 button once to trigger the steal, I pressed it multiple times. This triggered an AMAZING jump for the base runner, resulting in a successful steal every single time.

I tried lowering the slider for baserunner steal ability to 0. I raised the CPU pickoffs to 9. I tried stealing with Aaron Judge, he of a lofty 9 stolen base rating. And . . . even without the extra step because the CPU now would try a pickoff attempt with the slider at 9, Judge stole second (and third) by 5 feet, not even close.

Of course we can set "house rules" but then when can we actually try to steal? How many button presses are we allowed? Has anyone else seen this and figured out a way to remedy it?

    I think you mean L2?
L1 just increases your lead surely if you are pressing this multiple times you'll just picked off?

Yes, sorry, I did mean L2.

This sounds like a joy to have to deal with online...

Tried this earlier, my top base stealer (stole 59 last season) was thrown out by 5 feet. Guess I need to tap it a couple more times. Lol

You might be triggering a manual steal by accident? I've been successful getting a great jump with manual steal. I haven't used it enough to see if the SB success rate is out of whack, but when it is successful, I can sometimes take off before the pitcher delivers, and basically steal 2B without sliding.

Just press L2 a bunch of times until the pitcher pitches. The base runner gets an amazing jump every single time.

You're initializing a manual steal. At one point you're holding L2 long enough to indicate you want to manually steal and the runner jumps when you release L2. When manually stealing the runner leaving isn't tied into when the pitcher delivers like it does with an auto steal.

If there is a problem here, and there may be, it would be that the pitcher isn't throwing over and catching you in a run down when you manually send the runner because that should happen occasionally when stealing the way you are.

I tried this but I couldn't reproduce the issue, when just following the OP's instruction.

If I stop tapping before the pitcher delivers, then it's just a regular steal (I got caught every time after 4 trials). If I keep tapping L2, then it triggers a manual steal, which CPU goes to picks off.

HOWEVER, I can reproduce the issue when I actually target a stealer and then tap L2 repeatedly. I don't know if the OP was doing this, but I can confirm that repeatedly pressing L2 while targeting a runner with L3 stick does appear to give the runner a huge jump. I was successful stealing every time.

This may be an issue indeed.

all you have to do is use the 1st and 3rd method. point right stick (and hold it there) to the right and tap L2 once. Stolen base every time (by a mile). It's a really awful exploit that needs to be fixed. I play against CPU and you can steal at will if you want to. Player's speed doesn't matter. It could be at zero, at they will steal like Lou Brock every time!

edit - I mean "point LEFT" stick.
