It's my go to. Some say it's a form of cheating as most of the time if you have decent timing, you'll get a bit, but it comes in handy when the shift is on and you need to go oppo through the hole.

So you hold it throughout the swing the way you want the ball to go or push it once before the swing

I use directional but I don't move the stick, instead I just press the x button. When I have a runner on 3rd with 1 out or none I'll try to influence a ground ball just to bring that runner home.
