I have given up on critical situations for...

1.) terrible roster management. I can't even tell you how many times I have dropped into a game and all my top players have been subbed out for utility players. Leaving me with one eligible bench player to pinch hit. Not to mention my computer coach completely burns my bullpen so that I am forced to throw 4 plus innings with my closer.

2.) why is the #3 hitter 90% of the time the guy who is up on a critical situation. I mean what are the odds that that guy is he guy who comes to bat on the 9th inning every time the game is on the line? I mean really where's the data to support this?

3.) No variety. Save opportunity. Shut out opportunity. 3 home run opportunity. Cycle opportunity. Down one run in the ninth. Where are the career milestones? Strikeout accomplishments? Single game records?

I have been using this feature a lot since release and was initially excited about it. Turned it off for the first time last night and actually got better sim results overall.

Same. I only do it if it is a save opportunity or shutout opportunity because offense is a waste with all my guys done for the day.

These are the modes I avoid, just like player lock. I stick to what I know and what I know is franchise mode.
These kinks will most likely be worked out next year, the first-year modes can be hit or miss.
