    Scouting

My first year playing that im actually doing the scouting. Usually just had it on auto but heard you gey better prospects/more info on them this way.

My question is how do you guys scout? Ive been sending them out to discover for the first month then doing individual player scouting after. This the best way to do it?

That's pretty much what I do. Discover prospects in the first month, then scout the best ones I find in the second month. I like to have 2-3 regions covered so I have scouts that have 2-3 regions as strengths. The remaining scouts have the highest efficiency and are strong in scouting pitchers, position players or both (kind of rare). Usually I'll let the scouts completely scout the player, but if the potential is too low I'll sometimes stop them and move on the next prospect. I've gotten great results from this and have never tried auto so good luck to you sir.

      Re: Scouting

Scouting was much improved a couple years ago when they let you see all the attributes. For pitchers I scout for makeup and focus on h/9 and bb/9. I have all 4 scout rhp in their region for 3 days then lhp for 2 days. Then Of, IF, and C for a couple days. After that I leave two scouts discovering and the other 2 scouting individual players.

One tidbit - after one day of scouting the player's potential will frequently change. You might see a guy with 80 potential change to 60 and other attributes change also. I always check after one day of scouting to see if I want to drop a guy and move on to another player. By doing this you can scout more players and maybe find a guy or two you would have otherwise overlooked. If after one day of scouting his potential doesn't change and his other attributes are still good I fully scout him.

By May I like to have all 4 scouts devoting their time to scouting individual players.

        Re: Scouting

Its fun. Brings me into the game more and more invested in the players. I control 12 teams total. So scouting gets to be tedious. Which also explains why im not seeing the loaded draft classes i was use to only doing 1 team.

Also, i notice when im scouting and even drafting fully scouted players, if they say 80 pot and 80 overall, theyre still only like 50-60s overall when i go to sign them. Plus fully scouted players who say 80 pot, wind up only being C potential when i go to sign them. Not sure why

How good are your scouts? Are you hiring the best? If you are controlling 12 teams I suspect you have some pretty unreliable scouts in the mix.

            Re: Scouting

12 teams, each has at least 1 good one. Rest are middle of the pact. One or two per team usually are low in pitcher/position rating bjt good efficiency/discovery rating. Not complaining about c guys. In year two, at draft now theres a guy potentially 80 contact ratings and 70 power ratings but C potential. Just sucks when one team is SD and no matter who i take at #1 is a C guy outside of this 1B i want my Reds to draft.

Also, so im in the 2018 season. Do you guys scout players who are like 2022+ eta? I usually only scout for players with eta for the next year unless theres a freak available that i can stash until someone retires in a few years or could walk in FA.

Went through the draft once and started the next gane and had to shut it off and book it to work do it didnt save.

But the 1B the reds will be drafting is a monster. 99 potential. Listed at a mid 70s overall right out of gate. Contact and power is mid 60-70s. Hopefully votto retires after this 2018 year lol

Yes because when you scout them they frequently change sometimes for the better.

That's awesome! That is the best computer generated player I have ever heard of. Forget hoping Votto retires, just trade him. Ha ha.

I drafted a 74 Overall 94 Potential 2B in my Marlins franchise. Your guy has more potential though.

Dear sweet goodness. Teach that man left field!

I actually think 2K had this absolutely nailed down when it comes to positional ability and learning new positions. They had the same penalties when playing out of position, but each position had a rating, so the penalty was scaled. And if you played games at a position, the rating slowly went up depending on it's ease to learn.

So you could have a minor leaguer play a season at a different position for a year and when he came up he was ready for his new poaition.

Since it appears all starting pitchers automatically regress in stamina and there is nothing you can do about it I would recommend not drafting any starting pitcher with stamina less than 70 on the 10-80 scale and being very careful about signing them to a long term contract.

Made his secondary position LF to get him in the lineup. First game was against the BlueJays in Toronto. Started out 0-2. Then came the 2 run hr to left of the pole. Then in the 8th, down one, he put one just over the fence in right for his second 2 run HR. 2-4, 2HR, 4RBI
