You can still do the user-timed press/release steal too - but you actually have to time it yourself now.
Just came back to this thread to let everyone know that I noticed it was fixed as well! Glad that they listened and were able to fix it.

      Perfect steals?

Did they fix the timing when you just press L2? The only reason this became such a big thing was because of how bad jumps were in the first place.

Is there a good way to get a good jump in general gameplay now? In RTTS I time my jump with as soon as I see the pitcher start his delivery and it generally works out pretty good, but trying to do that in other modes, timing releasing L2 with the start of the pitcher's delivery, the baserunner seems to wait until like a full second after I've released L2 to actually start running, so it seems better to just tap L2 and hope for luck to come through.

Yeah, I can't get manual timing to work at all, they always go way after I release the button to tell them to go. Basically the way I steal now is just tap it, and hope they get a decent jump, if they get a below average jump I may just try to foul the pitch off, if they get a really bad jump though, I just mash the button to send them back to the previous base and they usually get back there easily, it looks extremely dumb, but it's the only way I've found to have any success with stealing now.

I'm able to steal every time with players that have 30 something speed and 0 steal ability. I first tap L2 and then hold L1 until the pitcher winds up towards the plate and then let go of L1. I never take an actual step or lead, but the runner gets a tremendous jump and steals 2nd and even 3rd.

Tried this out, players do seem to get an insanely good jump with this method to the point where half the time catchers aren't even throwing..

Yes, this seems to work in place of the other glitch now.

You don't even need to time anything or let go of L1, just tap L2 and wait for the rumble, then hold L1 until the pitcher starts his delivery. The runner will take off automatically at the very start of the pitcher's delivery towards home.

I thought this was taken care of in one of the recent patches, but it might still be an issue I suppose.

I filed a bug report when there was an issue with a slightly different button combination which triggered a perfect jump (which I myself thought was fixed), but if there still are mechanism to trigger it, it might be best to file a new bug report or add to an existing one:

Given this bug report has not been closed yet, the developers might still be working on it.

I can confirm that the L2 tap, then holding L1 does result in a perfect jump yet again... These issues really need to be fixed.

It appears today's patch fixed the perfect jump with the "pressing L2 and holding L1" method. I tried it twice with 89 speed Tim Anderson and he definitely did not have nearly as good of a jump as before. Almost thrown out on a normal pitch, when before he could have gotten there standing.

                                Hopefully there's no more methods!
