Huge morale hit after signing player to 40-man

    Hey all,

I encountered a problem tonight where I decided to sign a new, young RP that we had recently traded for to the 40-man to pitch the remainder of spring training. Since he had 0/3 options used, I figured no big deal, I can just option him back down later when the season starts.

However, after signing him to the 40-man roster, I realized he took a -5 hit to his overall and that he was shown as "angry" because he was only making 60k but expected 650k.

Before I signed him, I couldn't see his "player morale" page, so there was no way to know what he was expecting. Is there any way to avoid this in the future, or is the game just lacking in some areas?

I don't think there is nothing you can do. This is part of why I'm not a fan of morale systems in games.

Virtually all prospects are upset over their contract. What I like seeing are 50 rated prospects that expect a "Star" role. I like morale but it really needs to be tweaked a bit.

I like the idea of morale being in the game, but its poorly done, which was what I was worried about as it took NBA2k many years to get their morale system close to being realistic. They allow you to edit a player to, to fix any inconsistencies the game may show now, so it works pretty good in NBA2k, but it took them years to get it right.

I sure hope it dont take MLBTS that many years to fix there system. Its not only poorly done for young players , but also its screwy with established big leaguers.
For example Im the Reds and Devin Mesoraco is upset about the region he is in, which is rediculous as he is from Pennsylvania, and their are a lot of reds fans in that area. Plus Mesoraco I think actually grew up a Reds fan.

What they need to do is allow that stuff to be edited in the way NBA2k does. Same goes for quirks, while I like the idea, its not done very well in MLBTS. This is also something we should be able to edit.

I really love playing MLBTS17, but there is some things that really need fine tuning, and it starts with the morale and quirks system. Which can be fixed by allowing us to edit them. Dont get me wrong I think they are great additions to the game, but we need to be able to edit them as we see fit, instead of just being stuck with what the game decides.

This games year in and year out is always solid, and I have always got more enjoyment out of MLBTS than any other sports game, but the past couple years, I think its fallen a little short when compared to what NBA2k does with basketball. Its a tight race between the 2, but MLBTS has always imo been better in the simulation of baseball compared to NBA2k with basketball, but the past 2 yrs, I hate to say it, but NBA2k now has the edge imo as doing a better job at simulation their sport. This is just from a offline franchise standpoint, as I have no use for any gimic online modes of either game.

I thought this was fixed this year. A player added to the 40 man should automatically have an increase in salary to avoid this issue.

I haven't dived deep but I don't think this is accurate.

I didn't mean it was fixed, I just thought I heard that.

Personally I would like to see an option to turn morale off. I can see it in franchise because that is a more in-depth mode. But in season mode, I couldn't care less how my players are feeling. Now I have to baby them and make them happy or else they lose rating points.

Joe Bananas over here is upset about his playing time. Now when I put him in to give a starter a rest, he gets all pissy and plays like crap. So an already non-starting player is a liability on my team when I put him in to rest someone else. It doesn't make any sense. Are we going to start signing psychiatrists to the team? Or schedule therapy sessions for players that need to 'express themselves'?

                  yes please.
an ON/OFF toggle would seem like it would be relatively easy to implement for 18.

Or at least give us some sort of way to try and respond to the players being angry about something outside of just giving them what they want.

On the other side of the equation. Has anyone checked out how many players are ecstatic with their contract on any roster using real life contracts? These guys are all receiving up to a 5 point overall rating boost. Makes real life contract rosters unplayable for me this year when it hasn't been a problem in the past.

One very simple tweak that should be able to be added in a patch -- if not (I'm not a programmer...), then next year for sure: if you bring a guy up to the majors, his contract automatically goes to the MLB minimum. As it is now, contracts stay the same (e.g., 90K) when you bring a guy up.

That's probably the easiest of the necessary fixes to morale. Of course, allowing us to RESIGN PLAYERS DURING THE SEASON would take care of that too...hint, hint...

I would also hope that they rework the expectation system. Platoon is the cause of a lot of nonsense. I would vote for a simpler system that has the following: Starter, 25 man roster, Depth/40 man roster, None -- for position players, of course. Star is silly because it only refers to 1, 3, or 4 in the batting order, and hell, Kris Bryant bats second -- he's not a "star"? Is he upset this year at his spot in the order?

Morale per se is a good idea in theory, but I'm just left scratching my head about how SDS couldn't see these issues during testing. I wonder if they test Franchise AT ALL, what with the DD focus...

Probably the most legitimate statement I've seen so far. It is absolutely baffling to me that SDS is so arrogant (or oblivious) that they missed simple, key aspects of contract and franchise control. Are there really no mid-season contract negotiations? How could they miss something so basic and fundamental?

I bought MLB '17 this year for $30 on eBay, and honestly it's a bug or two away from being traded back in for $25. I'd say I'm hopeful for fixes to come our way via a patch or MLB '18, but SDS appears so clueless half the time that I've lost faith.

Not saying this is a "fix" by any means, but I believe morale is turned off in online Franchise? Not ideal obviously but just a thought.
