    Caught Stealing and Pickoffs

Is anyone else struggling to steal bases? I play with the nats and I cannot steal with Trea Turner (96 speed 85 SB ratings). If I take more than a "one step" lead , I get picked off almost everytime -- and still about 50% with that lead... I am also getting burned by the new slo-mo stolen base tag and have been called out almost everytime (a few I know he's beaten)-- even bad catchers are thrown me out after breaking pitches--- anyone else experiencing this

I never take a step. I just steal. I honestly think you get a better jump without the step. My baserunning is 3, steal is 5. For what it's worth

Without a step im gunned down almost everytime -- hes 96 speed and 85 stolen bases and hes caught bang bang (or punched out by the umpire on a bad call)

When I steal with Eaton (75 speed-- his SB rating is low for some reason) hes out by 3-4 steps getting to 2b

I had the same problems with stealing. I've since resorted to using the glitch or cheat or whatever people want to call it. Depending on the runners speed and ability I do the cheat anywhere from 50% to 80% of the time I try to steal.

Anyone else have suggestions? I have also notice some guys have ridiculous low stolen base ratings

Odd I had the exact opposite problem, where every stolen base attempt was pretty much a guarantee for either side. Had to turn down basestealing a few notches.

Yeah with those attributes he should be a stolen base machine. Wish I could help man.

weird-- I've been struggling-- Eaton has like a 40sb rating which is not correct IMO so I get him thrown out almost every time

Agreed. I can routinely steal with guys in the 50-60 speed range by taking a one step lead and going on first movement. If I use the L2 spam trick I don't take that extra step and can still steal with guys who have speed ratings in the 30's.

What's the count when you try and steal? I've noticed going on the first pitch of the at bat is usually the worst time to steal as you're most likely to see a pitch out and the pitcher seems to be significantly more likely to throw over (which is a problem for me since I seem to be thrown out about half the time). I'll take the first pitch unless it's a meatball down the middle and usually go on the second.

Keep your left stick facing the base you are currently on, like if you are on first face the left stick to the right and your runner should get a proper jump. If not he will probably just stand there until the pitcher is well into his wind up, then you stand no chance.

I press L2 once to get the rumble then press and hold. You don't have to time a release, just hold it down until your runner goes. Your runner will get a perfect jump every time. This is an easily abused glitch so house rules need to be applied to keep percentages realistic.

Also like others are saying, don't take the extra lead.

Does anyone know which pitching attribute controls the Pick Off Move?

I stole 1 base since release day. I just lead off once and I get caught stealing. I'm not even trying to steal! Super difficult to steal bases. I was a steal monster on MLB 15. Now I don't even try lol.

                            Re: Caught Stealing and Pickoffs

So I spent two hours "in the lab" researching this by repeatedly trying to steal with Dansby Swanson. And here are my conclusions... (1) The extra step is an unnecessary risk and you stand a greater chance of a pickoff attempt or actually being picked off. The extra step is easily lessened by a "bad jump." (2) Don't hit L2 alone! It seems like left up to the CPU you will get a bad roll and often even good base stealers (Trea Turner) get horrific bad jumps. (3) Your best bet is to hold L2 and release upon first movement from the pitcher. I got some good jumps and I got some so-so. (4) Even good base runners will succumb to the side step. So if you have a Turner or a Dee Gordon leading off the game and you reach base, make sure you read the pitcher to ensure he goes into a leg kick. If he side steps you, you're dead as the CPU has an idea you might want to be aggressive.

Also found within the game itself. 0 outs is the worst time to steal. The best is with two outs. There should be an element of surprise, and that will effect the accuracy of the throw from the catcher. So with good baserunners, hold L2 until you see conclusively the leg coming up. This should allow for you to steal in most occasions regardless of outs. For average runners, try stealing only during opportune times. Possibly when with 1 or 2 outs, and the hitter is down 0-2 and a waste pitch might be imminent. With 2 outs you have to protect the zone anyways.

I steal fine with Trea Turner, I don't do anything special really. Sometimes tapping r1 for an extra lead and sometimes not.
