    Ratings vs Realism

I've admittedly started this same thread more than once over the years but it hits me as a massive conundrum every year and I always wonder how people handle it. (It's surely happening to everyone.)

So player A has 72 fielding; player B has 92 fielding; similar hitting attributes.

Real-life team calls up player A.

    Do you:

A- Adjust ratings in some way that calling up player A makes sense
B- Call up player B instead
C- Call up player A but keep ratings the same
D- What happens IRL is irrelevant

    Pls vote.

Obviously this isn't simply limited to fielding or even position players; same conundrum happens all over the place. As another example, Tigers have a pitcher on their 40-man who is a 45-OVR in the latest OSFM despite having (theoretically) a dozen other better arms. Etc.

For me, what happens irl is irrelevant. Sometimes I'll edit a guy who broke out irl. But call ups and transaction have no impact on my fantasy world.

What happens in real life doesn't effect what roster moves are made within my franchise mode. My franchise is my own little world.

The only impact real life has on my franchise is there are times that I'll edit one of the CAP to make them a player that was called up in real life, or a potential impact minor leaguer. I also edit CAP's to reflect the draft and international signings.

ok, but like, you know based on real-life moves who the 16th pitcher is, or who the 6th outfielder is. but then in-game those same guys might be 25th or 9th respectively, ratings-wise. that doesn't bother you? lol

          Not at all.

I think its amazing, especially given carry over saves, to see how players develop in game vs real life. And also how teams build their rosters in the game vs real life. I know people take issue with some of the trade logic and roster building logic, and there are times that I scratch my head to, but as things play out you can see most of these moves making sense and actually benefitting the team.

For me, having my franchise mimic real life would be boring.

Not to throw a curveball in the mix but consider that good GMs IRL bring up lesser players for a few reasons - keeping the MLB playing time clock low on good players and managing options.

I always start with the default roster (I play Season mode, so 40-man rosters only) and then go from there. My dynasty is my own world, what happens in reality is largely irrelevant to me.

I also go strictly by ratings. On MLB 16, Emilio Bonifacio was my starting 2B even though he was released at the end of spring training (though later re-signed) in real life. But he was the highest-rated 2B on my team, so I started him.

That said, I do tend to be more willing to trade guys who are no longer on the team in real life. I ended up trading Bonifacio at the deadline in my dynasty last year.

                  Re: Ratings vs Realism

I wanted to go NL last year so played a season with the Cubs. Spencer Patton got me out of many tricky situations and kept his place in the bullpen all year. Arismendy Alacantra batted so well he made himself untradeable. Sometimes you click with a player in the game. I'm noticing this year hot streaks and morale boosts are having a big effect on who makes my team. I think it's getting a bit harder to try and mimic real life in a franchise so I'm not even interfering in trades anymore.

I dont make any attribute changes but I do try to find a rational explanation of why such a move might occur. I look at potential, age, durability, contract, secondary positiions, everythings open to scrutiny. if I cant find a valid reason, I just assume the players dating the GM's daughter.
