It's actually fairly realistic in my opinion. If you abide by the rule of coaching third base. Send the runner home if the runner is at the bag before the outfielder has the ball, don't send him if the ball gets to the outfielder before the runner is at the bag.

The issue consistently is that the ball is hit too hard.

Also, get an extra step at second every single time and slide around the plate (where you touch the plate with the runner's right hand).

This has been a real issue in the past, but I think things are getting better with new ball physics reproducing a lot more variety in poor hit types starting last year.


Another sneaky point is that the Show is generally a lot more popup/fly ball/line drive happy than ground balls. Part of this is user skill (i.e., PCI placement with Zone, swinging late, etc.), but observing hit types that CPU hitters generate, I have consistently seen them produce a lot more non-ground balls than the other hit types.

The kind of singles that could bring in a runner on the second base to home is presumably grounders going through between infielders, one reason why we tend to see less of this play in the Show, I think, is due to the underproduction of ground balls in general.

I agree with that, for the most part. However, ground balls seem to be all but a sure thing with a runner at first and less than two outs...

Boh. Was always using either armor and swords or mike lows sliders and had no problems with this. Scored plenty from 2nd base on ground hits.

I use Armors sliders as well, I liked them alot with some tweaking. I had to majorly tweak throwing strength (as I mentioned I did a lot of testing with Puig to get the slider accurate). You dont have problems because the throw strength is too weak. You cant throw anyone out. A guy like Puig shouldnt be looping one hoppers to 2nd, 3rd or home for that matter from shallow to mid RF.

There are a few things at play here.

First, there are no ball physics. There are "physics" when it suits the outcome of a play, but they are not consistent. So counting on a ball to slow down on the grass just will not happen.

Second, outfielders and infielders react way, way too fast to the ball. This is a huge reason and I think the number one player here. And infielders affect this just as much as outfielders, because for a ball to get through it has to be scorched, meaning you will not score on it. I am on HOF and have reaction lowered to 1, and the only players it affects is my own. I went like 8 games with no doubles because nothing could get past the outfielders.

Third, outfielders have way to accurate of throwing arms. i have that lowered way down and it does help, but I still think that the throws are accurate when they need to be. They show you offline throws, but only when the play couldn't be made.

Fourth, the CPU jumps, leads, and smarts on the basepaths are way too small/slow/etc. And it's the same for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER.

Aside from this, there are some actual legitimate things that hold it up as well.

Obviously personnel is a big one. Like you said, Kiermaier throwing is not Trumbo throwing.

In those situations, unless you have a slugger up there, a lot of times guys will be playing in a little bit for the throw.

And no they shouldn't be looped, but he (in real life) should be throwing the ball on a line more. He has missed more opportunities because he rainbows the ball everywhere he throws it instead of throwing it correctly. He gives away a LOT of opportunities.
