Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!
I got to agree with most that something with hitting has changed.
I always had difficultly hitting in this series but this year out of the box I thought it was perfect. I actually thought it was fair for people who have difficulty hitting like I do and it was a fair and balanced across all the hitting modes.
But now it's just not fun. I think they made it too hard for the casual player like me. I'm sure if I am a hardcore player and spend hours and hours on hitting I can probably get it down, but who has that amount of time to do that?
I hope they bring back the hitting when the game was released. It was the most fun I had in a baseball game in a over a decade.
With the last update, hitting has been super frustrating and I'm not having fun with the game anymore.
Should SDS be watching, I would pay another $60, even double, for the out of the box experience with just the pitching logic patched. My stats are good (well done SDS), but the post patch(es) hitting physics and experience are miserable. The 2017 release and patches have been a cruel joke.Last edited by fanofbaseball; 06-02-2017, 01:07 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!
Yeah I noticed this as well. I've also found myself playing the game much less. It's really gotten pretty boring without the hit variety that was there when the game first released.
Is there any way to roll back the patches? I don't play online so I could careless about that aspect.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!
1) Hitting, in specific ball physics, has changed...Nomo summarized it perfectly:
SpoilerHaving mentioned the "slicing down the line" issue before this year (http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ill-lacks.html), it was one of the first thing I checked when I got the game.
As far as the ball spin after the first contact with the ground, it was actually like that (the first contact with a surface removes the side component of the spin from the ball) even before the first patch which fixed the most glaring of the ball physics issues upon release.
The difference is that with the pre-patch game, the effect of the spin of batted ball was way too exaggerated in general, so the slicing of ball *in flight* was very visible, so much of slicing (to the extent it was never possible in MLB 16) the ball could do it while it's still in the air. But after it hit the ground, it still rolled in a straight line like it did in MLB 16. Basically that gave us an impression that the ball actually sliced away from the foul line, even though technically it wasn't on a curved path right after the initial contact with the ground. (In that sense, the new ball physics in MLB 17 is still not getting the physics of contact with a surface quite correct.)
Initially, I also thought the ball physics was reverted to MLB 16 when the first patch came out... but I think that impression was wrong, and the ball physics actually is for the most part still the same before and after that patch. I still see new hit types that I didn't see in MLB 16.
The major (I mean really big) difference that the first patch introduced was that it really nerfed the effect of the spin in general (or spin itself was nerfed), so whatever ball physics that was exaggerated upon release (like moonshot HRs with very long hang time and ball slicing down the line like crazy... both are caused by the same physical effect -- the Magnus effect), it was generally toned down... But they are still there, it's now just slightly harder to see because it's not exaggerated like it was upon release.
My point is that the ball physics did not revert to MLB 16.
2) I find it doubtful that SCEA is going to release another patch that address hitting. It's 2 months past release, they've already published 7 patches and I feel like they want/need to get started on 2018
3) All of this said...we're going to have to find a way to make hitting enjoyable with the current engine/system. Whether that's via sliders, a change in difficulty, etc. This is what the thread is for - discussing what is/isn't working and trying to help others find a good balance that makes hitting fun.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!
Pitches that are high in the zone seem to be pop ups or nothing else. I turned on swing/pitch info to see where my pci was at & if my timing was off.

The problem is if I bump my skill down to veteran I'm scoring 10+ runs a game. It's a shame because this game played great for me out of the box, but I bought the digital version so I'm SOL as far as rolling back to the original.Comment

I'd like to offer a left field suggestion for you guys. I'm on All Star/Directional with almost default sliders. My hitting has turned the corner since I started using the Hybrid with Mavs pitch edits. The pitchers have lower control ratings with these edits. I think they work in a few ways. You are able to work into deeper counts because the balls miss the zone by bigger margins and are easier to lay off. The balls in the zone are more hittable because they are slightly less effective. The breaks given to pitches are different and I get lots of bloopers with the ball flying of the bat in all directions. I've had 11 singles in one game with no extra bases, 7 doubles in another and 3 homers in one inning in another so the hit variety is there. A side benefit is I've been able to stick with All Star pitching because my pitchers get hit around a lot more with the pitch edits. Of course this is only my theory but worth a look if you are going to shelve the game.
PS I think there is also a OFSM with Mavs pitch edits in the vault.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!
physics haven't changed but the timing window has been narrowed noticeably. very hard to pull an inside fastball with righty vs righty or lhb vs lhp on legend difficulty. the hitting variety is still there but i think some of you need to lower the difficulty ..i for one was likely in need of a challenge and the patch has given me all the challenge i can handle.Comment

The Hybrid roster saves the game for me every year, and this year it's been incredible. I'm fortunate that I don't participate in any online modes so it's perfect for me.
I'd suggest for anyone that plays mostly offline modes to grab these rosters and try them. I'd be shocked if you didn't like them, assuming you're striving for realism. Pitchers actually miss - it's a good thing.Comment
