    How is this POSSIBLE??? Avoidable?

    Guys.. this game is coming dangerously close to the bargain bin trade pile and stuff like this isn't helping.

      How about hitting "O" so he steps on first.

      Know the controls before bitching about it.

        Seems like you could have more politely answered that.

          If hitting [insert base button here] is actually the way to field these plays, then I'll more than happily take this video down.

          But I swear I've tried that before and nothing happened.

            Anytime you're next to a certain base, select the correspond button:

            Circle = 1st base
            Triangle = 2nd base
            Square = 3rd base
            X = Home plate

            This is relative to where home plate is at the bottom of the screen; it would be flipped if home plate is at the top (such as RTTS). I never run to a base but hold down the button until the fielder hits the bag.

                I'm going to need to test that out more, because I've tried it in the past with no result.

                It still doesn't explain the routine fly balls that punch holes in the gloves of my 93 overall rated outfielders.

                  Been using the base button when around the bases for years never had a problem. Not documented well in the game itself but the other posters are correct, simple fix.

                      The question becomes, how close do you need to be to the bag to pull off a step towards vs. a throw move? This become an issue when both pitcher and 1B are converging towards the bag.

                      Must be nice to be so easily entertained. My experience lately has been somewhat the opposite...

                        It is very rare but every now and then you can and will get fielding hiccups.

                        But the over reaction is a little much.

                        I have had two botched plays at first base in over 120 games played offline on franchise/season modes.

                        Both times (and remember Offline I auto field and manual throw) a ground ball is hit to the first baseman and I press circle for him to run to the bag.......and he runs right by it.

                        It has happened two times.

                        Typically Intake control of the first baseman and run there myself.

                        Other than that fielding has been vastly improved since I first starting playing this series back on 09.

                        Oh and dropped fly balls happens to HOF players IRL. They are human. And The Show does a nice job of simulating some doozy errors even to the best gloves in the game.

                          Case in point, just yesterday, Asdubal Cabrera of the Mets dropped a routine pop up. Jose Ramirez went to field routine grounder and ended up kicking it off his knee. These things do happen.

                            Guys, we're not talking about some dropped fly ball with a nice fluffy animation. We're talking about eyebleed path-finding issues. This snip from MrHurriicane highlights the exact problem I'm talking about.

                            I swear some people are not playing the same game.

                              And before we start arguing semantics on the "appropriate path to take enroute to a fly ball", let's remind everyone that sometimes the fielder enters an animation to run and catch a ball while other times it seems almost arbitrary and makes you control him down to the last step.

                              It's hard to tell and almost no way to know.
