Re: Patches ruining the game
Yeah...there's no way they could axe online in this day and age.
What they really need to do is what I suggested earlier this year after the major launch issues: have a BETA for pre-oders. This would give them a jump start on smoothing out issues (both gameplay and server stability) BEFORE the game is launched.
Even if it's just a two day beta...we all know how many things crop up and are spotted within just the first couple days after the game is launched. Imagine if they already had the bug reports and server data a few weeks before the launch of the game. It would go a long way to ensuring a much smoother release with less patches required down the road.
All the big-name games have being doing betas for quite awhile now. I would love to see sports games follow suit, and what better studio than SDS to step up and set the standard."The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

Re: Patches ruining the game
99% of the problems and complaints are from ONLINE version of this game. I haven't experienced anything you guys are talking about offline. The only problem I see are obvious errors being scored as base hits, and a couple of very minor bugs. Bats changing color ,game log inconsistencies, etc. Other than that , I am having a ton of fun with this game, OFFLINE. It's very obvious that playing online is still in it's infancy with a lot of games. This is one of them.Comment

Re: Patches ruining the game
I've always said that sports games need to patch the online and offline experiences separately. That'll never happen, but that's what needs to be done so online can stop ruining the offline experience, which seems to happen in every sports game I play nowadays."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Patches ruining the game
I have played MLBTS 17 exclusively offline this year. I don't have enough time to dedicate to DD, even though I did last year and it looks a lot cooler this year. But anyways, I am seeing all kinds of issues playing offline. From commentary saying that Hanley Ramirez is gonna have a huge advantage this game bc he's hitting much better against lefties this season, but he's facing a RH SP....
The in-game overlays representing Division standings is showing the wrong teams 1/3 of the time. All sorts of graphics glitches. But the BIGGEST problem for me are those balls down the line they advertised so much about. Ground balls down the line are staying straight just like they did in last year's game. This was one of my biggest issues with 16 that they fixed for 17 but now after all these patches, we're back to where we were a year ago??

Re: Patches ruining the game
I thought this year's game played great after a few patches. Now I am seeing the following all too often:
-relief pitcher comes in and the pitch count continues from the starter

Re: Patches ruining the game
i guess i can put this here...
but just played the dumbest game which i won 6-5 in 10 innings... its everything in between that happened, my second basemen holding on to the ball twice on a sure groundouts... umps not giving me the calls on pitches way in the zone, while ringing me up on pitches 2 inches off the black (i hate Clyde) lol
then this happens, i have bases loaded in the 10th with 0 out... i hit a hard grounder to the 3rd baseman and he tries to turn 2 throwing to second!!! are you kidding me!!! he allowed me to plate the winning run(it was bottom 10).. even though i won i was so upsetToronto Maple Leafs

Re: Patches ruining the game
I hate to say it, but this is what happens when a company a) listens too much and b) hinges their success on online play.
a) I don't think SCEA should stop being involved with the community, that is what makes them a great studio. But...they are patching like a certain president used to govern, they wake up, read the polls and reactions for the day, and do that. There's no time for people to adjust to the game, and since they're accessible, whiny people take advantage of that and bend them to their will.
b) I'm sorry, but online play attracts the worst kind of people. You won't find them here, because this is a place of forethought and patience (generally). But any game that has a competitive element attracts people that have either been protected from losing their entire lives so they exploit/forfeit because losing is unacceptable, or legitimately good players that are obnoxious to play because they let you know how good they are.
When you get into bed with these people (prioritize online features, microtransaction, etc.) you leave yourself exposed to keeping them happy. Too many homers? You have to patch or people will stop playing. Too few? Patch it back, gotta keep the player base up. When you constrain yourself this way, the game suffers.
I remember NBA 2K17 was the best basketball game I had played in a while. Pick and Roll was awesome, pull up jumpers worked, the game was loose. And as long as you didn't exploit like 2 things, the game played like a dream. Well, online prevailed, and by the end of the flurry of patches, I was playing 2K16 again.

Online modes are the worst. You have to trudge just to find someone that isn’t going to And honestly, I blame the parents that are starving these young adults for competition. They don’t get it anywhere else so online games are becoming bigger and bigger. Plus, since they don’t compete anywhere else, the parents don’t teach them the right way to win and lose so who do they watch? The showiest players BECAUSE THE MEDIA OUTLETS GIVE THEM THE MOST AIR TIME.
This is an epidemic. Bad parenting and ratings driven television and news and the ever narcissistic social media are all working together to produce some of the most entitled self focused people the world has ever seen.
Excuse my rant there, but it’s gotten bad. Watching sports is getting harder now. It’s like the challenge isn’t to win anymore, it’s trying to see who can show up the other players. How are we supposed to expect our kids to respect others when the people we hold in esteem actively try to hurt others?
You don’t care where I sent this from"The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

Re: Patches ruining the game
I completely agree with the sentiments expressed in this thread. The sentiment reminds me of a great scene from The Young Pope:
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LmbyWGCwX90?start=156" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Likewise, The Show needs to become inaccessible to the cheesing plebs that participate in the undignified spectacle that is online gaming. The Show is supposed to be a rigorous, hardcore, uncompromisingly authentic simulation of Major League Baseball. That's the only way it will once again become desirable
I want fanatics for The Show; because fanaticism is love.Comment

Bro a-freaking-men. This is the greatest post in the history of posting things. This post is so good that users should have to read this:
1. Everytime someone signs up for an account
2. Before they are allowed to even browse posts much less post their own thread
3. Everytime they log on/in to the forum
You are so right. I have been thinking that for so long but I couldn't put it into words like you did.
The worst part is how brilliant this insight is but how so few will be able to grasp/admit this. Its like the twilight zone.
I try to call-out the cry babies on here or bad posts but im not as good as you with my words i guess cuz people/moderators defend the babies and don't understand the point I'm trying to make.
Together we can clean up these streets! Lol We must unite! Will you help me bring justice to these evildoers and ensure Mlb The Show 19,20,21,etc will be as good as it COULD be??
Lmao. Real talk though man. #UnpatchThePatches

Oh, and here comes "the powerful right fielder Nick Markakis" Like his power never really developed and then he had neck surgery....which pretty much zapped what he did have....Last edited by shark547; 07-08-2017, 05:13 PM. Reason: I didn't know my edit reason was a bad word....Comment
