Most SO on low and away offspeed. Me, I like to wave at FBs in the bottom of the zone

Am I the only one? I get called looking at a low 4sFB in the outter half of the strike zone more than any other pitch type/location.

    Example:
    0-0 take strike one
0-1 early on changeup, foul ball
0-2 take curveball/slider/changeup low and outside. I'm not swinging at that, what you think I'm a rookie?
1-2 foul off pitches, take pitches out of the zone
2-2/3-2 I told you I'm not swinging at th...oh damn. Strikeout looking at a low fastball in the zone.

High and inside is my failing. If it's in the zone I either let it go or swing WAY too late. If it's out of the zone I'm swinging, and those rare times I don't I'm pulling back my thumb with every fiber of my being.

This year a low inside CB breaking out of the zone is kicking my butt too, though I'm getting better with that one. The straight CH is also a nemesis but that has less to do with striking out and more just general hitting.

    Man, hitting is hard.

I get rung up on a variety of pitches but the worst has to be a changeup down and out of the zone. I get anxious to try and stay alive in the AB and end up chasing it more then I'd like to admit. Having said that I'm pretty patient but then some games I'm a free swinging fool and chasing fastballs at my eyes, sliders away, changes down and curves in the dirt. Basically I provide my own slumps at times when I go all free swinging mode.

Changeups. I just can't read 'em. What's the trick?

Camera is pretty important to being able to identify them quickly. This is the exact reason I can't use the strike zone cam that people seem to love. In strike zone I can't get a read on where a pitch is height-wise in relation to the plate - because I can't see the plate. I need one that's lower to the ground so I can see the ball rise up slightly as it's released - the telltale sign of an offspeed pitch.

For me, it's Fisheye. The beautiful visuals are just a bonus.

            Thanks for the tips man.

I can read curveballs and sliders pretty well, but something about the change just gets me out in front consistently...I'll try to make an effort to look for that slight rise though. Doesn't help that my eyes are going in the gutter the older I get lol.

I love the look of Fisheye for sure. For some reason my hitting numbers are just much better with The Show 16 cam...not sure exactly why, but to me the pitch speed feels faster in Fisheye and I'm late more often on the heaters. It's been awhile since I've tried it though, so I'll give it another shot. I could always try dropping fastball speed a hair too.

I think that is why I get rung up on the fastballs, I expect the pitch to drop out of the zone and it doesn't.

I get in those moods also where I have to ask myself what am I doing swinging at junk pitches. Often times it is late in games against a pitcher that has been having a good game.

The thing I need to improve on is also staying behind on the curveball. I can recognize it very well, and more often than not I can see if it is out of the zone and hold off. My shortcoming is when I see that it is up in the zone, as soon as I see that I swing and either miss or foul because I'm early. Gotta get better at being patient on those.

It really gets fun when you are facing a pitcher that has pitches that feed off each other. Guy gives you a slider going away, then next is a 2 seamer that starts in the same location but breaks back into the zone.

But your directional hitting guide has helped a lot man, thanks. Previously all I did was try to pull with my power hitters, but after following your advice of always influencing somewhere I am much better at working the count. Even drew a couple of walks after being down 0-2.

Agreed completely, camera really makes all the difference in every facet of hitting. Reading pitches, reading location, timing etc so the camera selection is extremely important. I use a custom cam that I created off of The Show 16 and it works pretty well.

I tried that fisheye cam but it felt like the SP was in the OF when pitching and I couldn't get the depth down so I was either early or late on everything.

I'm with you on the inside heat. If I swing at them I'm usually hoping to just foul them off because if I put it in play it's going to be an easy popup 99% of the time. Feels like I've been seeing a ton of them lately too. Also doesn't help that it's nearly impossible to do anything with an inside fastball even if you square it up with good timing. Anything inside seems unrealistically hard to keep fair unless you can make good contact with a slightly late swing.

I love seeing the offspeed/breaking stuff down and away though. I play with Detroit and those pitches are perfect for driving into the huge gap in right center at Comerica. Moving the PCI down and away feels natural for me so getting the timing down didn't give me much trouble.

I've switched to fish eye for the last two games, and had 12 and 17 hits in the two games. The 17 is a new personal best.

Early on I was behind on pitches much more than on Show 16 cam, but after a few innings I adjusted my timing and now I am early on the off speed stuff far less than before.

In terms of making contact, the change hasn't been drastic. Same amount of walks and total pitches, but my timing has definitely improved.

Also it helps a lot to adjust to pitchers. Most of my best hitters are pull hitters, and I just went up against Strowman of the Blue Jays and he was pitching away on everything. Once I wised up and started looking to go opposite field he struggled. Then he started going inside, and that is when Schoop hit a 3 run homerun.

The Show has always provided a good recreation of the battle between pitcher and batter, but I really feel that this year it has taken a step to be more realistic than ever.

If its any consolation, he got a no decision in that game.

Left in the 6th with a 3 run lead 7-4.
