Any tips before I start the game today?

So I know I'm late to the show, but I've finally got TheShow17 on the way and I'm really excited to play my first baseball game in years (Not counting Supermegabaseball on x1, but damn thats fun), and I just had a few questions and was open to any starting tips.

Being a huge Yankee fan, I eventually want to start a very accurate franchise with them, and really have fun with all of their young talent. However, I'm thinking that it would really taint my franchise to start it right away since I'm sure I'll be terrible at the game.

Instead I'm hoping to learn the ropes through RttS and DD. I've heard good things about dynamic difficulty and I'm planning to just play this way. In the past I could never find the difficulty sweet spot between scoring 20 runs a game, and then increasing difficulty and going scoreless.

Do the constant roster updates affect your current franchise at all, or are you locked in with the roster once you start? I assume its the latter.

Being a Yankee fan, I would like to have Clint Frasier on my lineup, but I'm curious how long it will be before he is added to the roster since he just played his first mlb games last week. I read something like they are not allowed to be officially in the game until they play there first game and enter the mlb union. So, I guess before that are they just in the game in the minors as basic create-a-player types? How exactly does this work?

Thanks for any help and or suggestions and I can't wait to play ball.

If you want accurate prospects, you'll have to download the OSFM (Operation Sports Full Minors) roster off the roster vault in game. Then, when you start your franchise, you'll be asked what roster to use: Current, Live, or Load from Save. Pick the last option and then load the OSFM roster you just downloaded.

Default rosters have a randomly generated farm system of fake players. This is done to avoid legal issues, because if the Show purposefully used a players name/likeness without the rights to, they would be in legal trouble. Since OSFM is fan made, it's all hunky dory.

Any idea what control scheme you are going to use? Dynamic difficulty can be counter productive if you choose Directional hitting, since at lower levels the CPU pitches into the zone WAY to often. This is good for learning zone hitting but in Directional discipline and working the count is key to successful ABs so lower level play actually works against the player. On top of that, pitch speed will shift as you move up and down levels so that can be disorienting.

As someone who was made a victim of the lower levels of difficulty for years I recommend skipping all that. Just try veteran, all-star, hall of fame, and maybe legend if you're bold in batting practice and see which one you like the feel of the most, then use sliders to make that difficulty work for you. The sliders sub-forum is an excellent resource for figuring that out.

I'm also going to plug my http://forums.operationsports.com/fo...ing-guide.html in case you choose directional hitting. Welcome to the show and good luck!

Thanks for the quick response and the guide link. The guide looks amazing, and perfect study material until UPS shows up.

Something else I thought of: What kind of TV are you hooking up to? TV response time (aka input lag) has an impact on the Show. Most modern quality TVs have a game mode that reduces this, but a plasma is generally better and a gaming monitor is the best.

Just a word of warning. The timing window is very small this year and if the pitch you see on screen is delayed due to response time, it can have a negative impact on the gameplay experience. Most people just deal but there are those on OS who bought a gaming monitor just to play the Show.

Forget the exact model, but its a 4k sony that I picked up at xmas, and I'm pretty sure it has a game mode.

Also, random question, but does ps4 pro make any difference for this game?

PS4 Pro is said to make a difference especially since you have a 4K TV.

Most games you'll be able to choose one of three modes: Higher resolution (4K), HDR (graphical effect, needs compatible TV), or more/more stable FPS.

I'd recommend FPS mode for the show, but I'm a gameplay over everything kind of guy.

              ...wish I had a pro.

Also, I believe with a 4K/HDR TV, regular PS4 even has a graphical mode that is an improvement, so you don't even need a PS4 pro to get something, great for people like me that don't have a Pro. Just need a 4K TV.

                Which I also don't have.
