    Roster question

I am a first year player and still not understanding the 40 man roster. I know i can only have 25 active on my mlb team. My question is there some advantage to placing my better aaa players on my 40 man roster

    Re: Roster question

Only players on your 40 man roster can be called up to the MLB roster. If you have a good AAA catcher not on the 40 man and you want to bring him up to replace your light hitting back up you need to place him on the 40 man roster first. Also, if you already have 40 men listed, someone would need to be designated for assignment to make room. If you place a person on the 60-day DL that person comes off the 40 man roster so you have another slot available. Additionally, there are advantages to placing some of your better/promising AAA, AA and A level players on the roster when it comes time for service requirements for the rule 5 draft, where players of a certain amount of service time not on the 40 man roster may be selected by another team to be on their 40 man roster.
