    Fantastic Bunt Defense Animation

Playing vs the CPU on All Star. Then I couldn't get back to playing after I recorded this.

The runner scored on an inside the park home run. I ran around the outfield trying to find the ball. I didn't realize it went into the stands until I watched the replay. Then after I recorded & posted this to YouTube the game would let me exit the menu. So I had to close it down. I was in the 6th inning trying to finish the last division I have left for the vs CPU mission. Also only need five more wins with NL pitchers.

I am sorry that you experienced this, but to say it wasn't funny as hell to watch would be a lie.

It made me laugh after my brief moment of rage.

Hilarious! Sorry you couldn't finish your game though. Bittersweet, bittersweet.

Though on the title alone, I want to speak on the bunt defense animation where the players "swipe it foul" when it's in foul territory. I still don't understand why this would be a method of preference. I've heard somebody say before "to keep it from going back fair," but the second you touch it, it really doesn't matter. The last thing you would want to do is try and swipe it foul, and if just a bit of it is fair then you just kicked a live ball.

Well you wouldn't swipe at it like that until you're sure it's foul. It's just to help the umpire see that it was indeed foul and make sure there's no chance the ball hits a divot or something and roll back fair.

I still don't understand it. If you touch a ball in foul ground, that's it. No matter how you touch it. You could swipe it fair and it would still be foul. You can belly-flop on it for all they care, as long as they know it's in foul ground when it's touched.

Personally if you were to make some kind of a gesture, I think the best way would be to screw it into the ground (like a catcher picking it up to throw). You'd see the ball mark, and know that it's foul.

Not only am I not cognizant of having ever seen this happen in an MLB game before (though I'm sure it has), I have never heard this principle be coached before, and I will never tell any of my players ever to do it. I will simply say, "Touch it foul."

EDIT: I want to make clear... the "swipe it foul" gesture isn't hurtful in any way (unless it's actually fair and you knock it away), but I don't see it as helpful for any reason whatsoever.

I played third base throughout high school, my first two years of college & coached JV baseball my last two years of college. I was always taught & have taught to pick the ball up as soon as it goes fair. It's such a rare occurrence in real life that a bunted ball could roll back into fair territory. If that happens it's usually due to a terribly maintained field.

You're are spot on with everything I was ever taught by my coaches who all played professionally.

I used to see it happen more often in the majors.. haven't seen it in a while and I've never been coached to do it that way either. Just giving my guess on the reasoning behind it.

                              No problem, I gotcha.

I can kind of see you're point if you're referring to it possibly hopping before you touch it, but it's kind of a lost art to me. I just see it all of the time in this game and scratch my head over the idea.
