    Help Starting a Franchise

OS Community, I need your help. I have major OCD when it comes to starting a franchise in MLBTS. Every year I document the daily roster transactions of the league, both major and minor leagues and wait for the Hybrid roster to come out. Then, I start my franchise but usually restart a couple times because a new roster comes out or a highly touted rookie is released in a live update and I want that player model in my franchise for carryover purposes. However, hand up, I admit I have never once carried over a franchise for any purpose other than exporting a player removed the new year's game. I wanted to post on here and just see what people do when it comes to playing their franchise, do you sim 2017 and start fresh with your own team in 2018? Do you play every game? Do you follow real life? I just want some community input to see 1) what I should do and 2) see if anybody is crazier than me lol

I've been the same way for a long time. Year after year I start franchise after franchise only to stop and restart for new rosters, new patches, wanting to use diff players/teams, etc. I've never been into simming games in my franchises, I like to play so I feel the stats are mine and earned. This year I was doing more of the same and I tried something new and I am happy to say I just completed game #148 of the season playing every inning of every game. I picked a team with some players I wanted to and hadn't used. Then I simmed 2017 and 2018 completely while handling free agency and trades. I was able to pick up a few more players who I also wanted to use and make the team the way I wanted it. I'm getting excited for the playoff run now as my team just clinched a spot and then I plan to play 2020 as well with this team.

I've always had this debate. I want the stats to be earned, but I also want to win so I usually end up out trading the computer and ended up restarting because it was no fun. So I added in some trade rules. 1) if a player is on the trade block he is free game, any trade that the computer accepts is fine. 2) if the computer offers me a trade I may accept it regardless of how one sided it is. (Jose Quintana for Danny Santana for example). 3) basically I don't make any other trades, however the computer can may any trades with itself that it wants. This helps me not make such a juggernaut each year and keeps it interesting. Last year the Astros traded George Springer to the Mariners for Nelson Cruz... Seems weird they would trade such a young star for an aging one, but hey I'm not the GM of the Ms or Stros. I also keep a spreadsheet of every player on my 90 man roster. Helps me keep track of how players are progressing, I retire jersey numbers of players who go into the HOF. Basically I turn GM contracts off and treat my team like a dynasty.

franchise is great and all but since I too get way hung up a lot of times with having so many players to try to move around, I have found that season mode can be extremely satisfying, though I dont play more than 3 seasons with a team before starting over with another new team.
