Has Anyone Ran A Franchise Playing This Way?

The past 3 yrs I have found that by controlling every aspect of my franchise I tend to eventually dominant. Mostly because the computer AI will not make good off-season moves, and I literally am OCD about my personnel moves.

I just bought 2017 and as I was downloading OSFM rosters, sliders etc this idea came to me.....

I love playing the game (every at bat, every pitch), so what if I try to run a franchise with all franchise options set to auto except lineups and pitching rotation? Would that make my "virtual team" on more of an even playing field with the cpu controlled teams (from a personnel standpoint)?

Seems like it would be kind of fun once injuries/call ups etc. started happening to try to truly only manage the 25-man roster on a day to day basis. Almost like real life where the majority of big league managers don't have a ton of say in personnel decisions. They manage based on the team the gm gave them.

    Thoughts?

I've done this before as a "manager only" mode before, and it was a lot of fun.

Ive thought about doing this, but never have did it yet. Im so OCD about keeping things the same as what they are IRL, that Id probably end up losing interest very quick doing this. I had thought about do a franchise and just controlling managing 1 of the Reds minor league teams and set everything to auto except for lineups and rotations.

cool - do you find the cpu manages your team (as the GM) in a somewhat competent manner? I.E. free agents, 40-man, waivers, re-signing players, trades etc?

I tried this in the 2015 version and the CPU didn't do a good job. I had Freddie Freeman at 1B and they acquired Pujols via free agency. What am I supposed to do with two "elite" 1B on a National League team???

Have you seen anything whacky like that happen?

Well even if you're only a 'manager' you can still edit players. Give Freeman 3rd base as a sec position and move him there, like they did irl this year. Can also fix cpu stuff ups in this regard as well. I had cincy sign goldschmidt even though they have Votto, so I changed Goldy to a LFer.

Probably, my no. 1 wish for MLB Franchise mode (besides getting rid of the stupid playoff pitcher stamina recovery modifier and the silly decision to prevent pitch stamina and speed from being increased by training), would be to add mechanics for players to learn new positions, pitchers to switch from relievers to starters (and vice versa), and pitchers to learn new pitches.

I do this season by season sometimes in my franchise. I haven't done it in my current one with the Padres yet because I'm far from dominant (7th season in and I still haven't made the playoffs), but typically if I ever do create a dominant team, I'll let the CPU run the team for a season and see what they do.

Interesting. I have 2 franchises going..one with the Yankees and another with the Rockies. I am currently in Season 2 in my Yankees franchise (Lost to the Astros in the ALDS and just finished the offseason.) For my Rockies franchise I made the playoffs and am currently in the Wild Card. I think I will go ahead and change all franchise settings to Auto except Lineups and rotation and just take it from there. Sounds like a great idea to me.

Re: Has Anyone Ran A Franchise Playing This Way?

Very cool idea and neat way to approach the game.

I am about to play out the post season in my Yankees Franchise (I lost the ALDS in 5 games to The Mariners) as the Indians and then head into the winter meetings and off season.

Maybe I will give this a shot. The only thing I don't want to give up though is scouting and drafting. I have too much fun trying to find future stars. But I may go ahead and let the CPU GM my team after this first off-season.

Or hell just start a new franchise with a different team and have everything on auto except the lineups (for all 30 teams). Let the GM decide my 40 man and 25 man rosters and injury management. Although I will still have to mitigate CPU pitching rotations staying true.

Just watch as you will get 15 pitchers on your MLB roster and 2 bench players, with one being a catcher.
