    Re: MLB '17 Budget System

So, every season in my franchise winds up with my cash flow stuck around 300-400k/week... get the message I can't afford them or I get this new note saying I am "over my player budget". I already signed plenty of FA's already, have a full 40-man roster and no holes/coaches to fill. When the new season begins, I am able to spend the cash flow + bank on these subpar FA's. Why can't I just use that money during the Free Agent period? It is roughly 7 to 9 million in cash flow I can't spend. Any help would be appreciated!

In the off season, your cash flow has nothing to do with your available money to spend. To see your available money, click on any free agent as if you are going to make an offer. Then look at your max offer and multiple that number by 26. That will give you your remaining budget left. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your insight- I had thought this, too, after reading up on here, but I'm still having this problem. It's off-season and my Max Offer is at 989K. I should expect to be able to spend about 25Mil this off-season. I have no arbitration eligible players and I hope off on the renewable contracts until after I sign FA's. Testing how much I could offer, I gave a yr contract at different amounts and found 13.8Mil is my limit. 40 man is filled, as well as coaches. I'm missing something that my budget is automatically accounting for that I'm not calculating into my available funds. The goal is to dump 6Mil and sign a 31.0Mil/year Bryce Harper. I agree the Max Offer x 26 is the total available, but I'm not finding some hidden cost. What do you think is causing this discrepancy?

I'm guessing it's the number of unsigned players you might have. I usually sign everyone that I plan on keeping as soon as I can, including renewable players and I haven't run into the issue you are having. Might be worth a try

            Re: MLB '17 Budget System

Update: Still have not figured out the budget…I would love to know the exact amount I am allowed to spend each offseason, but I don’t have the answers.

I am in the first offseason (1st day). Here are the important numbers: Max Offer- 3.56M, Pending Offers- 49.67 (I offered 1-yr contracts to all players in my organization and gave them what they are asking for; they are steadily accepting the offers), Roster Size- 85, 40-Man Roster- 24 players. I played out three scenarios, simulating a few days while trying to spend money on free agents, and here are the different results (The fact that I mentioned ‘different’ is the issue; I expect the exact same results because I offered the same 3 free agents in all these trials). All coaches are signed and all offseason tasks are set to manual.

First trial allowed me to spend 64.8M

            Second trial- 33.2M

            Third trial- 59.2M

Needless to say, I am in the twilight zone- I have zero answers and zero ideas. I will gladly try any suggestions.

Ive done 3 separate off seasons and all 3 times, I have ended with 1.22m - 1.63m in budget. Just keep it simple and don't overthink it. Also, know you aren't going to be able (depending on your team) to sign a lot of big big contracts. Also, make sure to keep your 40 man up around 34 - 36 players the bulk of off season. It allows to make money available somehow (or so I'm told). I just signed guys as needed and watched each signing to see how much my weekly went down. When it got close to 1M, I was always close to the 90 players. Really for me, that is all I look at when I am offering contracts. How much does my bottom line (3.76m) drop with each offer. Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it works for me, and I get the guys I need. I honestly wont get 5 seasons deep or anything like that so long term idk.

i turn the budget system off because it breaks after a few seasons. They need to overhaul it in 2018 and also you should be able to put money in the bank for future signings and make more money through ticket prices / merch.

As I've said before the budget this year is definitely confusing. I just started a new year in my carryover save. After the offseason and in ST I was under budget. As soon as the regular season started I was over budget. The crazy part is I keep going further in the over even though I haven't made any changes. On top of that, my bank has increased each week of the season even though I'm over budget. I just hope they expand on it while also making it easier to follow.
