    Directional Hitting

Hey guys quick question. I am about to switch from Zone to Directional hitting. My question is I never really use power swing. Can I hit home runs by just hitting normal swing and not holding up on the left stick. Or do you have to use power or hold up on the left stick? Thanks guys

You can get HR without power swing or up influence. Those help (especially power swing), but it's possible without them.

      Re: Directional Hitting

I almost never use power swing, and I'm in July of my 3rd season with the Twins. AxS settings, never simmed a single pitch. Barring anything silly I should hot 200 hrs for a 3rd straight year using only X and O when I'm 0-2, sometimes 1-2.

Ive lost count of HRs I've got with even Contact.....

All you have to do is wait for your pitch...I never used power hit and if you get a hanging curveball or slider or change up you are going to smash it...Directional is all about stats and dice roll so you might get a fastball down the middle and pop it up sky high...I love directional and classic pitching cause you have to have good stats instead of player skill with the joystick...

            Re: Directional Hitting

I'm going to join the chorus of people who are saying they rarely use power swing. Most of my homers are with a straight pull influence, but I've gotten homers with all sorts of swings.

Also, this seems like a good place to plug my directional hitting guide.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm going to give it a shot. I always have used Zone hitting and never used power swing. Always just rolled with normal swing.

                Re: Directional Hitting

My strategy, which is something I started in MLB 2K, is to use the power swing in hitters counts. So if I get work a 2-0 or 3-1, then I take advantage of the count to look for one pitch to drill. If I get it, great. if I don't, even if it is a strike, I let it go.

If I have a power hitter up with two outs and no one in scoring position, I might use the power swing in that at-bat, unless I get two strikes on me.

In addition to giving me a strategy to take advantage of a pitcher when he falls behind in the count, it also encourages me to constantly think about working the count. I also started drawing more walks and forcing the CPU to go the bullpen sooner.

Plug it early and often - highlights the nuances to this excellent hitting mode.

I've had those hybrids before and I was like "he likes hitting everywhere except up the middle...well then.

I usually use swing timing more than influence (i.e. try to be early on pull hitters, just late on push hitters) since I remember reading one year that's how the hit chart actually influences players. Of course, that was before Directional and it was just plain Timing.

I have always thought of "no influence" as a "adjust to the pitch" approach. If it's in...good timing pulls it, if it's away, good timing takes it oppo. If it's middle-ish, JE to JL hits the gaps.
