I Hope The Show Brings the Emotion and Electricity!

I was going to post this in the player personality/stadium atmosphere thread, but I didn't want to hijack it and direct the discussion to something that's supposed to be looking for specifics.

So let me preface this by saying that I love that this game has players pumping their fists and acting excited during the big moments of games... But I've always had just a couple of issues with it that I hope at least got touched on a little bit.

1 - There is no difference between a big moment in a game between two last place teams in May and Game 7 of the World Series... The biggest moment in one of those May games might not evoke as much emotion as even the first hit of the first inning of the World Series... In playoff baseball it gets rowdy!

2 - It's kind of hard to explain but the celebration animations have always seemed a little too pronounced and not very authentic. For example, if you get a big strikeout to get out of a jam, almost every time the pitcher does some type of spin move off the mound and a weird fist pump where his hand is off to the side while his head is still magnetically drawn to the ball. The whole thing just seems very robotic. If a pitcher gets a strikeout in that situation in real life and is going to show emotion, he is normally yelling and pumping his fists in a more "punching the air and flexing" type of way.

The same goes for big hits... So many times after a big hit in real life, you see the runner on base either beating his chest, pointing at the dugout, clapping his hands, etc... Any time you hit a walk-off, the adrenaline of the moment makes you absolutely lose your mind... Just think about all the times you see the guy who just hit the walk-off single continue running straight to the outfield to run away from the insane mob coming after him... Or the guy who just hit a walk-off home run coming around third who fires their helmet at the ground like they're mad at it and proceed to get absolutely mobbed at the plate.

These are the moments that make baseball such a great sport and worth the grind of a 162-game season, so the more variety of those animations that are in this game would make the feeling of doing those things within The Show feel more authentic to the person playing the game.

Yep. In short, it's the little things. And they are lacking.

That’s on top of my wish list too. Crowds are a big factor too...

      Thanks OP!

Emotion is one of the things that most sports games really seem to be lacking, to me anyway. FIFA probably does the best job of portraying the pure emotion and atmosphere of a real game. The Show isn't bad in this regard, but yeah, it could definitely improve.

I always wonder how much of this comes down to budget and time restraints. I don't see "emotion" ranked high on a lot of people's wishlists (although it does on mine!), and it seems like it would require a lot of dev time creating animations, etc. I mean, folks have been ranting about five-man celebrations in the NHL series for years now and we still don't have them.

The problem is I don't think devs realize that having better mo-caps of celebrations is just as important to the game as better mo-caps for swinging and throwing... Using the same slow, robotic, cheesy walk-off celebration every time would be like having one way of fielding a ball IMO.

Also - I remember when they added Postseason Mode a few years back they hyped up how the atmosphere was so much better and whatnot... Really all they did was turn the crowd up and leave it turned up for the whole game instead of having them react to anything... In the postseason, the entire crowd is basically hanging on every pitch... Each ball gets booed to no end and each strike is like a home run... Like I said, playoff baseball is rowdy!

Same can be said with the commentary, they are the same as they are in May as they are in game 7 of the world series.

I guess it would create a lot more work to add in post season separate stuff.

The problem is they can't get Matt to bring the same excitement he brings in the post season into the game. For NHL fans, its the same issue with Doc and NHL 15, 16, 17, and 18.

I was shocked watching Matt's postseason broadcasts and hearing the excitement/emotion he brought during home run calls.

Then you play the show and it's just to be blunt, not very good. It's the same recycled lines over and over again since God knows how long. I wish they just took commentary from real games and put it into the game. I watched some youtube highlights and someone hit a game winning home run and Matt was barely excited.

NOTHING kills immersion then lack of excitement like the above or seeing the same tired presentation of hitting a homerun and seeing the manager pumping his fist etc

I know the game doesnt like to show negativity, but players argue ball and strikes. I know I have had games where I get strike 3 on a breaking pitch that hits just off the zone, or is a touch low out of the zone and etc. Pitchers who have thrown stike 3 on the corner and gets called a ball. It would be nice if you could hit (example) square after and it show the ump and player pointing and talking, and be a dice roll if it heats up to seeing the umpire throw his hand up annd eject the player. For that matter, it would be nice to see AI players in the game who have the tendency to jar a little to have the same type dice roll. Its not something I would want them to go crazy over like 5 ejections a game, but I think it would add some realism since you have a ejection toggle but have never have a ejection.

I don't think any sports video games really capture the big, emotional moments the way we really want them to. Raw human emotion is really hard to duplicate in a video game. Think about watching a WS game 7 on tv. Yes, it gets louder, but the stadium atmosphere is caused by real human emotion, excitement that you can see on peoples faces, and in body language. Same goes for shots of players, their faces and body language provide most of the emotion. This just seems like something that would be next to impossible to duplicate in video game form.

Just on the ejection think there is a option to turn it on or off BUT I have never ever had a player ejected how the hell do you get a player ejected in the game??? all I know is you can from throwing the ball at someones head about 5 times in a row.

I've had ejections on for 4 years I've played the game and over 300 games a year and never ever seen or got ejected.

You really need to want to get ejected. You have to throw at a player's head like three times in a row.

I’ve only been ejected when my batter is called out on a close play at first. He argues and gets tossed.
