Both of these things kill the immersion and fun for a lot of players, specifically the player models. This is supposed to be a simulation so seeing a player with the wrong body type ruins that.

If they can't get the cover athlete that they are pretty much using to sell the game right, then...

I always hear lighting is the last thing to kick in, but I don't know if skies qualify.

It is one of the most disappointing things that baseball video games didn't really get right for quite a while. I understand the lack of day-night progression in the older generations, but it took 2K forever (until I think 2K10 or so) to get the right color, and now that series has been scrapped... and The Show never got it right.

I'm going out on a limb to say only about 35% of baseball games are played during the day: Saturdays (not all), Sundays, and getaway days. The rest are pretty much all at night, except for Chicago Friday home games. That makes its significance pretty noteworthy if you ask me. I don't even play with one of those fisheye lens cameras like some of you do, so the fact that I'm still coming at ya'll with this is pretty telling of its significance. I mean unless you're playing at Tropicana Field, you have to see that "eyesore" of a backdrop every pitch of every offensive at-bat.

I mean this isn't perfect, but can we please someday go from this...

      To this... ?

I do believe the shots in the preview are of an older build, but I don't believe that outside of PS4 Pro enhancements we are expected to see any more major overhauls. No more new player model skeletons or anything like that, at least. I'm sure they're still working on things regarding PBR, skin colors, maybe even more fan variety... but I'm losing hope on new sky colors.

What makes matters worse is I think they and many are satisfied with it.

EDIT: Extended side-note on the subject matter...

Are they broke? People just don't like the colors they chose for the sunsets. It's subjective.

I mean.. who's to say what the "correct" color is for a sky at sunset?

Ah yes, here is stage two of the response types. I was waiting for one of these.

The sky is not viewed with a magnifying glass. It also only takes one screenshot, even if captured in 144p. I personally have that blind faith that it can still change, but I won't get my hopes up any longer. I'll wait until next generation for that kind of hope. That and an authentic broadcast camera.

Didn't know there was a video, only saw the screenshots. But still, this isn't six seconds of scrutiny. For me, it's been at least nine years. I know you weren't just talking about the sky peeps. Thought I'd throw that in there regardless though.

I wasn't talking about anything or anyone in particular. I was just making light of the situation as a whole that the least bit of info and we as a community go through it with a fine toothed comb, or magnifying glass.

I scoured through that 6 second video and searched over those screenshots just like everyone else, at least I assume everyone else did that.

It's not like the sunsets are a new topic. We talked about it a fair amount last year.

Well, they don't look realistic to the point that it looks out of place compared to everything else. For a simulation game that prides itself on nailing natural lighting and markets it as a selling point, the current dusk/sunset lighting is definitely not ideal, especially with so many night games and the fact that it's a backdrop to the hitting views (and pitching views, depending on what you use)...it's something we have to look at on a very regular basis.

I'm hopeful they'll get it right this year though.

As to what color is "correct", the best solution would be to take various samples from real life and then make it variable/random to a degree in-game.

I've never passed on the show, but this year likely will be. The devs don't listen to what we want. The game feels old. We want new player models, a new art direction, franchise updates, etc. Instead they are touting bat flips, and delaying ANY news of the game until February. I see why. It's the same game as 17. They always tout under the hood game play and animation changes, but if the game from an art and player model prospective feels like PS3, then it doesn't matter. It's stale. We don't want diamond dynasty or conquest pushed down our throats. We want progress in the areas we ASK for year after year.

And don't give me the same oh this is an old build BS. It's THE month before the game comes out. If I had seen this in December I wouldn't have been as concerned and disappointed.

It always cracks me up when people make protest posts about a game we know almost nothing about. I will guarantee-damn-tee you these same people will be on this board when 19 rolls around. It's like clockwork.

As someone who's had every iteration of The Show since 07, I think listening to some of the "gripes" people have are very important. Although I wouldn't consider the game "stale", I can definitely see why some people are saying that.

I've been enjoying the game for over a decade now, but I think I'd be lying to myself if I said it has blown me away visually since moving to the PS4. It's so strange because this game blew me away on PS3. First and foremost I am a gameplay guy which is why I keep purchasing the game, but visually it just isn't on the same level as some of the other games I play (Madden, GT Sport, even NBA Live).

It's a tough spot because, to me, the Show's gameplay has been good for so long that it's falling victim to itself in the sense people are looking for something refreshing. Here's to hoping I'm proven completely wrong in the next couple of weeks as info leaks

It is disappointing that the clip looks exactly like MLB 17. The fugly sky color, Judge's appearance and his inaccurate stance/swing. I'm hoping this was taken from a build that doesn't have the new animations in yet, but you'd think they would at least get the cover boy updated in for marketing purposes. I think the lack of any sort of media for the game this close to release kind of had me hoping for new player models and some sort of big surprising graphical improvement and what I got was, from the extremely small sample, exactly what I already have in MLB 17.

Obviously, it's only a split second micro-tease of a clip and judging the game based on that is pretty silly. I would love improved graphics, specifically body models. But what I really want from 18 is improved Franchise mode. This mode needs a lot of updating and additional features. Aside from little changes and additions here and there, the mode is not that different from what we got in MLB 08 The Show a decade ago!

I loved MLB 17 and still play it, and I will right up to the release of 18. I've been buying this series going back to when it was just called MLB [year] and I have never been disappointed in a release since the one that used to freeze all the time when you skipped cutscenes, I think it was MLB 2004 or 2005. So I have faith in the dev team and fully expect the game to be amazing again. But as far as first impressions go...meh.
