Re: MLB The Show 18 Developer Blogs & Twitch Stream Schedule
I agree, but it was Kirby and the crew's first full season with the commentary. I figured it would take a few years to get it where it needs to be. I agree they did play storylines to death last year, but if they can build on that this year add more and more I think everything will be okay.Comment

I thought Ramone said last year that they had gotten DD to where they always had envisioned it. Sounds like RTTS got the overhaul this year. Maybe that means big changes for Franchise for MLB 19

they need to talk about players during the season more, just every pitcher that comes up it is 'oh he has a ERA of 5 struggling' oh he has a ERA of 2 he is having a great year.. it's generic and boring.
that's all they talk about ERA and wins and losses, there is more to that then pitching.Comment

Franchise Mode: More Control. Less Time.
^^^^ I have mixed feelings about what this tagline suggests. Seems to fall into the pattern of simplifying everything (quick counts, critical situations etc). I'd prefer franchise mode to get more detailed rather than less so. We'll have to wait and see what this "phases" thing is and how the team plane shown fits into it all.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I agree. I really like critical situations, but I would like a more detailed OOTP-esque front office experience to go along with it. Also the last picture, something about more action in less time, seems daunting. Maybe it's just a throw away line but it seems like it could be they're trying to sensationalize the games more than simulating real play.Comment

Example, say you're in May and you want to jump ahead to the trade deadline, you select that "PHASE" and you are immediately taken to the trade deadline and the game "sims" the season in the background that you never see.
Again, pure speculation on my part.
As you and others, I'm hopeful that franchise mode got some much needed attention this year. Guess we'll find out in March.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I I’m intrigued by the trade day prep, I wonder if that will include sending a scout to check on prospects etc.MLB: Chicago Cubs

The vast majority of players do NOT want all the intricate details that are already in the game. I'm almost certain they will give the hardcore crowd the option to get into all the details. Another thing everyone overlooks is making franchise mode more accessible will actually bring new players into the mode. They get in, enjoy what they are doing, and then maybe choose to get more in depth, growing the popularity of the mode.Comment

"Franchise Mode" symbolizes depth, longevity, and all that stuff. Give people options for simpler play, and that's fine, but focusing only on making things simpler, easier, and quicker is a mistake. I'd rather the focus be on making running a team as life-like as possible, and then build in simplifying options after that. I'm skeptical that simplifying franchise mode is gonna siphon off people from DD and RTTS. People who want to play trading cards and have really short games will probably stick with the other modes.

Imagine wanting to play a franchise with your favorite team. You go in and see all of these different things you have to do. Hire/fire, scouting, all the different type of contracts etc, etc. That's overwhelming and a big turn off for the majority of players. Most like to just play the games they want, and make occasional decisions here and there, not get into every little bit of the minutiae of being the GM of a team. That's part of the reason RTTS is so popular. I get that this is OS and its all about sim sim sim, but to me, The Show's franchise mode is already a very deep and robust experience.Comment

Compare the depth of The Show's franchise mode to CFM in Madden. It blows it out the water. From my perspective, the horse is already there. SDS has done a great job with their franchise mode, and increasing the popularity by streamlining the experience will allow more people to enjoy it.

Madden has all the owner stuff, ticket prices, jersey sales, stadium renovations, building a new stadium, relocation, etc.
It has all the social media stuff, and much more.
Not saying I LIKE it all or it's implemented well, but there is no way the Show has more depth.
In fact I would argue the show is the furthest behind in terms of a franchise mode in the major sports games, at least 2k and Madden, and for baseball that's really unfortunateLast edited by eric7064; 02-06-2018, 09:38 AM.Comment
