    Re: PS4 PRO question

I tried the supersampling option and all three modes, and saw no difference in visual resolution/clarity among the three options, though I was looking intently. I even tried to do screen captures to see any difference in the three, and I could pretend like I saw something maybe, but on a blind test I wouldn't be able to tell you which version was what from screencaps.

It was clearly kicking in though, because 4K mode had pretty awful framerate at times. That being said, I'm totally content with HFR mode on my Pro and 1080p TV.

Sure. Mind if I borrow $399.99 + CA tax from you?

I just upgraded to a PS4 Pro around November and I haven't put it to good use yet. I hope the 4K settings that The Show provides proves the difference

Is it possible for this game to look better with supersampling than in enhanced visuals mode? I have Samsung KS8000 and was curious how supersampling would look when I changed resolution to 1080. It looks better to me than it did in enhanced visuals.

How is this possible? Or am I losing my mind?

If you have a 4K TV, then forcing supersampling is not going to look better than the native mode.

Reason being is that your downsampling the image to a 1080p frame buffer, then relying on your TV scalar to upscale at back to the 4K native of your TV.

Personally I would just play in frame rate mode, which is usually 1080p but a locked 60fps at all times, with a similar image (maybe a hair sharper) to that method you mentioned.

The only way it looks better is that supersampling down to 1080p will help with the aliasing much more, but you're still losing fidelity on the upscale, but it may not be super noticeable depending on how far you sit away.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if it was a mixture of the improved AA, with the fact that I was playing at 60 FPS, which made the game much smoother than I’m used to. I do sit about 7 feet from TV so maybe the resolution isn’t as important.

Anybody know of any trade-in deals this week for OG PS4 500 GB? I checked Gamestop online and they are only offering $130. Maybe someone out there knows of better deals?

Honestly, the best course of action is to sell your PS4 through third-party sale, then use that money toward the Pro. It's the old trade-in/sell logic; for cars - sure, you can trade it, but don't expect the same return as being a bit more patient and selling on your own.

Has it been mentioned if MLB The Show 18 will have the frame rate issues from '17 resolved in 4k Mode (running @ 60fps)? I've been away from any updates for months and need to know. Thank you!

I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere, and I've been following streams , videos and articles on a daily basis.

Tried all the modes and have to say the supersampling 4k does look gorgeous. For those who cant notice a difference, look at the player shadows on the ground and also the crowd, walls, etc behind home plate. Jaggies everywhere disappear. That said, framerate does take a big hit though personally i found the gameplay to be not too bad, its more noticeable in cutscenes.

Enhanced visuals i didn't notice much difference, in fact i'm not really sure its any different to before. I think the SS is only taking effect when 4k turned on.

HFR mode still the best way to play it but with how the 4k SS looks ill definitely be playing at least a game a series with it.

I think you might not understand how super sampling works. Super sampling is a way to achieve better visuals for people without 4k displays. A super sampled image on a 1080p display will look better than a natively rendered 1080p image. Super sampling renders the image at a higher resolution than the display can handle then down scales the image to fit a 1080p display, for example. Basically, it will look like the super sampled image has better anti aliasing / less jaggies. If you play on a 4k display there is no reason to super sample the image.

Also, enhanced visual mode is useless on a 1080p display, as all it does is natively render the image at 1440p instead of 1080p. If you use enhanced visual mode on a 1080p display it is very much the same as super sampling, expect that the visual gains would be very minimal if any.

                                This is correct.

Also, HFR all day long. 1080p scales at an even integer to 2160p, and combined with a good scaler, it looks nice and crisp.

Framerate is king in sports games. Changes the whole feel dynamic by far in the gameplay.
