How do you run your 30 team control franchise? Share !

    Hey All

So getting ready for another year of MLB the show. I am looking forward to running a 30 team control franchise but looking for some ideas on how some of you do it. Always looking for new things to try.

Currently I will play as one team my Mets and then I will control trades. I write down all the rosters in excel and try to manage their contracts but that is a ton of work. The biggest thing I want to control is trades so they are realistic and making sure good players hit the market. Like I will make sure Harper hits the market so teams can go wild.

So what do you guys do? I am looking to read how you all run things maybe it gives me some great ideas.

I make sure no crazy trades go through and near the deadline I’ll write down all contending and non contending teams and makes trades for them that make sense and are realistic. During the trade i use dice to determine what the actual outcome of the prospect will be depending on potential (higher potential has higher odds of becoming a stud) how i do this is by example: Brewers trade Brinson Harrison for Yelich, Brinson has A POT so bust would be 1 , average player 2/3, 4/5 all star and 6 would be superstar. While Harrison (B POT) would be 1/2 bust, 3/4 average, 5 star, 6 superstar.
    In the off season
In the off season i also control resignings to make sure big names hit the market and low budget teams don’t resign players wanting real life money. I do use real life contracts and give real life contracts to players as well. I write down what all teams need or want and put same bids on players and see who they choose if multiple teams need that player type instead of having a team out bid someone. This makes it more interesting. Budgets are turned off btw

That is awesome I really like the dice idea. I am really trying to get as many ideas I never thought of as possible and start a whole new way of doing things. I might have to try that out. How do you decide if say Multiple teams want Harper who is going to get him?

Using dice once again you can give Yankees/cubs more odds say yanks 1/2 cubs 3/4 Phillies 5 and Nats 6 or ill put the same offers in for multiple teams and let him accept whatever one he wants.

I've never done an actual 30 team control before so I have a couple questions. If you have 30 team control on and set everything to auto for the other 29 teams will they still trade with each other without you initiating it? Will they still offer trades to your user controlled team if everything is set to auto for them?

Yes, just make sure you have 2 profiles, one is your user profile for your team and make one called whatever you want to control cpu teams and set it to auto.

I will injure all the guys who irl got hurt before the reg season. I will watch over trades during tge year and if i dont find them realistic I will send the players back. I only play as the Cubs, i will simulate all the games that day before i play so i get the ticker to show up. I mainly let the cpu sign free agents and set 40 man, but if something i find weird happens I will fix it. If the cpu has the yanks sign Harper, yeah that makes sense. If the A's do, not so much lol.

I’ve done this the past 2 years and have had a lot of fun with it.

Wait for OSFM to come out.

Uninjure all players except those who will miss all of upcoming season. Usually Tommy John among others.

Set up rosters/lineups/rotations as close to real life as possible.

                    Turn injuries off.

Play all 162 with the Mets.

Do some player lock games with Stars (Trout, Harper, Correa, etc) here and there.

I try to keep it as up to date as possible and realistic as possible.

Current MLB season I do all the trades that happen in real life. In the future years I make all trades based on team needs, position holes, rebuilding, contending, beef up farm system.

In offseason I let CPU handle it but if a move makes no sense I’ll trade the player to a team that does make sense.

I handle all of Mets responsibilities.

During Playoffs I play all games with the Mets (I usually make the playoffs haha). Then the rest of the series I do Quick Manage and play as alternating team. If it’s a close game, I’ll jump in around the 7th and finish it up or try to comeback based on who I’m playing as. (I never play as the Yankees or Nationals because I don’t want them to win)

In offseason I also have to edit all the drafted players to fix Alien Like faces/facial hair, generic equipment, mismatching brands that kind of stuff. Also gets me more familiar with Top Draft Picks.

From there try to Win as many WS with the Mets

Re: How do you run your 30 team control franchise? Share !

I started a franchise in 2014 that I have transferred through this year. I do regret sometimes that the game overwrites names of retired players too such that hall of famers on the team like Derek Jeter have some generic name; this is the first year I'm considering not getting the new game.

Anyway I tend to only handle the Yankee lineups, DL listings and call ups through into August. All other lineup/roster moves I leave for the CPU. I make all the trades. First things first though: while I try to move players to their real teams in each year through trades or free agency, from the moment I start a career/franchise mode in any sports game, after day 1, it is my universe. As realistic as I'd like it to be, if Chris Sale and Xander Boegarts retire in the game I have to come up with a new strategy for Boston. I don't whine about it nor do I expect after day 1 that the game will perfectly mimic real life.

Otherwise I try to make trades to get the big players on their correct teams in off season or early in the year. Like MVP20, as we get to trade deadline I note all the teams I think are buyers and those that are sellers and only move players in a logical fashion. So last year the Tigers were out of it, but AZ didn't need an outfielder (Dayan Viceido and Jay Bruce were on the squad). So instead he went to Toronto, in the hunt, but JD Martinez was an upgrade to their outfield. When we get near the end of august, I take over all the injuries, and put many players on the DL to allow more choices when it comes to post season eligibility until they fix the game. Then in September, i start to tweak the lineups and rotations of contenders, especially those starting to fall out of it. Ideally if they had manager tendencies one could argue that a manager who prefers a righty/lefty platoon should get to employ that strategy, but since it doesn't exist in the game, I found that sitting Jose Bautista against righties with the team around him made no sense.

I draft the first three or four players from the current year draft by position; in the off season the signed players are the first ones shown as signed (really wish they would show me what year and position everyone was drafted in the offseason). I then go through and rename all the fictional names to real ones, and try to change appearance. In the off season I also go through players who in real life made strides (Judge, Bregman) and edit traits to improve their ability to play regularly the next year. I don't downgrade anyway who is not playing in real life but is a stud in my game. I tender contracts to all that were tendered; Lorenzo Cain signed, Eric Hosmer did now so I can get him to San Diego. I sign most of the minor leaguers and those I know may still be with the current club and have control of, and offer to those that were resigned by their original club. Then I start offering similar contracts for the free agents as they come up in real life. I'm at a point now in the off season where there are still a number of good players free just like real life, but I also now identify those that are in Mexico, Japan, or other leagues, thus won't be in the MLB next year. As the free agency picture clears up, these international players go to teams that need players of that quality at those positions. If a real-life player retired, I'll find a suitable team for him. If their skills are waning, but wants millions, he sits in free agency. If I upgrade to the new game, I try to figure who will have a fake name when I convert, and track their location in the roster to edit it back.

There's more I'd like to do, especially if they made managers/coaches meaningful in the game (then i could build teams around their styles), but that's about it as to how I play. if they made a game where I really felt the CPU was competent and didn't offer dumb deals or make poor signings I'd handle the Yankees on a day to day basis more. Maybe some day.

Before I created this thread to get more ideas basically here is what I do

I wait for the OSFM rosters

I try out 3 or 4 known slider sets. I look for a set that is gonna give me a challenge. I have no problem playing and not making the playoffs. In fact if I feel I am going to win it all every year in any sports game I can not play it. I put realism above winning over all.

Then I set up 30 team control. I control all trades, and free agent signings in the season and off season. I am going to going forward use idea of having no budgets BUT set my own budget for each team to keep them like their counter parts.

I play all the games as the Mets BUT not all 162. I pick 3 starting pitchers and play games which they start. Other two starts of a rotation I sim. This gives me playing close to 100 games during the season.

with 2017 I got through 8 seasons with the Mets made the playoffs 4 and won 1 world series. So it felt real to me.

I have never done 30 team control but am considering doing it this year. My fear is I'll get like a month or 2 into a season and realize maybe I bit off more than I can or want to chew. If that happens and I just set every team to auto except the 1 or 2 teams I want to control/play their games, is it any different than single team Franchise mode at that point?
