I have made some pretty massive excels for my offline gaming (such as sports board games) that take things to the next level and I hope I can do so with this.
What I am looking to do:
- A tracker that you can keep history of your franchise such as records, drafts, championships, etc..
- Offseason Enhancements - FA Signing, Re-Signs, Etc.
- Trade Evaluation
- Team Personalities - Set teams to WIN NOW or REBUILD and change how they build.
What I need:
- Ideas for Randomized Free Agency (or not random if you have an idea I could implement)
- Team Personalites - What categories are needed/wanted? I am thinking BUILD MODE (Win Now, Rebuild), FAVORS (Veterans, Prosepcts, Average), Budget
- Ideas to make resignings more realistic (or chance to reject contracts), any ideas I could work with.
- Ratings for trades - What values players generically? (Common sense would have to overrule still)
- Any other ideas that could make franchise better that I could implement - Excel is very powerful and the sky is really the limit
Some quick ideas I currently am testing:
- Team Personalities + Success = FA Points - Teams are assigned FA Strength Points that give them a greater chance of landing that BIG FA when the FA has multiple teams interested.
- Positional Rankings - The game gives these so entering the manually would be a breeze. Random points could trigger randomly assinging certain amount of teams to go after trades or free agents depending if they were in WIN NOW or REBUILD mode.
Limitations:
- Randomized - There isn't going to be much of a way to get rid of randomness. But with the right numbers, you can get realistic signings, etc with weighted chance.
- Manual Input - Most will require manual input as I have no way to access data from the game - But almost everything I do is automated with Macros. I will find a way to keep it simple.
Example:
SP Jon Lester is a FA
8 teams have interest in him, we narrow it down to the Top 3.
NYY, LAA, CLE - NYY and CLE both had winning seasons, LAA did not. (Also takes into account team personalities)
NYY come in with a FA grade of A. CLE also comes in with an A. LAA comes in with a C.
A = 5 points, C = 3 points. NYY is assigned 1,2,3,4,5.. LAA is assigned 6,7,8.. CLE is assigned 9,10,11,12,13.
The randomizer spits out the #3. Jon Lester signs with the NYY.
Rough example, but that is kind of the idea I am thinking thanks to a user on OS that gave his dice method. Keep in mind, this whole process would all be automated, all you would do is enter the TOP 3 teams and the FA.
-----------------------------------------------------
Feel free to expand on any of my ideas or your own and I hope we can crank out something that could enhance franchise in ways that will add some randomness/realism.
If there isn't much interest, it will probably be low priority on my to do list!
