Excellent, excellent, excellent idea for Franchise Mode.

I'm big into prospects and player progression. I love it in real life, and in the show. But sometimes I struggle with the authenticity at which some players move in that game. I think position players and starting pitchers aren't far off. They're in the right range.

But what SDS needs to add are those bullpen guys who come into the league as, say, 65-70 overalls, but everyone knows they have the stuff that will allow them to be overpowering relief arms in a year or less.

I'd really like to see a progression variation where relievers with BIG potential ratings actually SKYROCKET in year one. Let me see a 62 overall prospect shoot up to a 78 in one year! Too often I'll draft a 21 year old "A Potential" reliever, only to see it take 6 years for him to even reach 80-85. We need this. It happens all too often in baseball, and would certainly bring more value into actually drafting relievers in The Show.

    Thoughts?

I wish they had a system to make prospects improve at different speeds. Maybe you get an all star potential player but they need a few years before it clicks and the gain a big jump. Or maybe a lower potential guy who reach bench or part time starter in a year or two.

Maybe have guys who perform well, have a chance to get a boost to overall and potential. On the flipside, maybe someone with all the potential in the world stalls out. It would make it far more interesting

I'm pretty sure this is how it works already. Usually not as drastic as some cases in real life, but it is all dynamic.

True, but the trade system still values A prospects highly which is why I tend to use my A potential prospects as trade bait. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush (leagues).

yea, it seems like everyone is demanding the ovr and potential vs production algorithms see a lot more modernization. for me, it's been a slow progression on the ps4 for sds but it's finally time to address this.

I have had my utopia of ideas but I'd just wait for the 18 franchise details before getting hopes up about any improvements along these lines. They still have incredible franchise AI to straighten out too.

edit: if they do touch these areas, I'd like to see reinforcement about factors of experience, pressurized at-bats, comfort-ability in lineup/rotation, and all related factors take a creative place in the balance of player skillset in developing seasonal and career production. In need also of a modern 21st century injury model. Skill in MLB isn't a chain reaction to production, like other more statistically driven sports.

Another idea would be to have players with body trajectories....

For example, this player won't really get much better at defense or plate vision, but he'll grow into his body and his power attributes will definitely soar.

Or another example would be a HS pitcher still needing to put on 30 pounds and in that time, will certainly add 4-5 MPH of velocity in his fastball.

It sucks that what you draft is what you get 3-4 years later. I'd like to see players actually "develop."

If I'm looking at a guy as a RP, then I value the pitching prospects with high velocity and movement more than the ones with a high OVR or progression rating already.
