    breaking out of a slump

So I've been having the worst go of it on the show 17, for like the last couple weeks. I just couldn't hit. I was still scoring runs because I was still taking my walks and hitting the long ball, but I'm talking like .200 average over that time regardless of mode, DD, franchise, RttS. Over I think about 30 games played in DD and franchise without reaching double digit hit total. That is -bad- for me because I don't strike out much, so my babip was just horribly low and that's way too big of a sample size to be fluky over that many AB's controlling the whole team. I was hitting into some bad luck I suppose but it was just my timing, I couldn't square the ball up, even though my chase percentage didn't really seem to go up much.

Anyways, the way I busted out of it. I just concentrated on identifying exactly what pitch the pitcher was throwing, not even trying really to hit it, just watching the ball and popping the answer off in my head before it crossed the plate, like sinker, changeup, slider, whatever. It's something I do sometimes but I neglected it and it occurred to me I never really thought about it before, it was just something I did. But it really seemed like a helpful exercise to help me hit. As soon as I started consciously identifying the pitch every single time I started smacking doubles off the walls again instantly. Do you guys do that when you hit, or do you just sit fastball until it's two strikes and then go the other way? That's what I was doing and it wasn't working for me at all. Maybe it's something I was taking for granted and I was just trying to see ball, hit ball too much.
