Do you use hot and cold zones?

Do you use them? I can struggle a bit pitching and have always thought using hot and cold zones is “cheating”. But then again, in real life pitchers would have scouting reports on hitters. I’m thinking of using the pitch preview option. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

I'm pretty sure we learned last year that they actually have no bearing on hitting at all and are merely cosmetic (but at lease based on that real players performance IRL).

*********I want to throw in, I just vaguely recall this and could be wrong. I would need someone to back me up on that.

I use the preview option where it goes away after the first pitch. It's not cheating because real pitchers learn them before a game.

I don't use them. I generally pitch to what fits the situation. For instance, I don't like to throw pitches high in the zone when a double play is possible, even if the high areas are considered "cold" for the batter. I have them shut off.

I don't see it as cheating. Pitchers and catchers spend days and days learning these same things as part of the job. So since we don't have that kind of time, having them on or preview is like a learning aid. I don't use them personally as I feel it's still a 50/50 shot.

Unless it has changed, with H/C on you get minimal (very minimal) boosts and penalties depending on which zone. If they are off there is no affect.

Last night I was playing against the Rays. Matt Duffy came up with a runner on first. I threw a fastball low and away and he hit a 430-foot bomb. I checked his hot and cold zone after and his only hot zone was low and away. Wouldn’t have pitched in that location if I had the hot zone on

Thanks, I think that may have been what I was thinking of since I play with them off.

I dont pay'em no nevermind. I already know what I want to do. And I want to be as unpredictable as possible. Though Ryan Howard used to torch me constantly because, apparently I didnt mind throwing him heat in his wheelhouse sweetspot

I feel like even if you already have a game plan and if the game situation dictates where you wanna throw to a guy I feel like hot and cold zones are still good to know because they still can change details about the situation, just like real life. They should matter.

I only use them in my rtts hitter b/c they actually change based on results in rtts. Turn them off for everything else though.

I’m using it. You can pay attention when batting , I’m pretty sure AI pitchers have a tendency to aim at those blue areas.

I’m curious if the AI batting logic is programmed to expect (or not) pitchers to aim at their weakness as well.

It would make sense to me there’s no huge impact when you actually hit the ball but more where pitchers are aiming and what location batters are expecting.

If SDS has hot and cold zones and they are cosmetic, that is big travesty and they should be called on the carpet for such and egregious act.

Now just thinking about it, if you let the catcher call the pitches, you will see he does't give a flying flip about a dark red or a light red or even a transparent blue. So it may be all for naught.
