Hopefully I have the same success with him in MLB 18!

I'm thinking my lineup to start the year will be:

    LF - B. Gardner
    RF - A. Judge
    DH - Stanton
    1B - Bird
    C - Sanchez
    SS - Didi
    CF - Hicks
    3B - Drury
    2B - Walker

I may flip/flop Bird and Didi according to who is hitting better at the time. For some reason I just feel better having a lefty in there between the Mega Powers and Sanchez. But I did think about batting Judge, Stanton and Sanchez back-to-back-to-back because imagine being a pitcher trying to pitch to those 3 in a row. Good luck! I may do that against a lefty sometimes.

One thing I'll try to do right off the bat is get rid of Ellsbury and have Clint Frazier as the 4th (5th, really) OF. In reality I'm happy with him getting more seasoning in AAA, but in the game I wanna play him at least twice a week.
Yeah Bird has played well for me as well; I am just expecting a drop in ratings and potential after back to back years struggling with injuries.

One thing to note is that I do play 1, sim 5 and use classic pitching/directional hitting so ratings play out as much more important in my franchise than maybe with others.

I like your lineup that you have, though Hicks may end up moving up to that leadoff spot. He seems to always have a higher OBP in my franchise's than Gardner does. Here is most likely what I will start with:

    CF Hicks
    RF Judge
    SS Didi
    DH Stanton
    C Sanchez
    1B Bird
    LF Gardner
    3B Drury
    2B Walker or Torreyes

Depends on how he’s rated compared to Clint Frazier.
I will probably keep Ellsbury for this first year and let Frazier stay in AAA and then release him and eat the money in the offseason. No way I can pull off a realistic trade involving him with the current franchise set up.

One other thing, I see myself dealing Betances in my Franchise. I let him walk in FA in my last one, and with how strong the BP depth is, I definitely anticipate moving him for some pieces, especially if I am not really contending at the deadline first season.

Im using the Royals this year. As far as the first season goes, im probably trading Alex Gordon, Ian Kennedy, and Salvador Perez. I might tank year 1 then try and reload in a great 2018 FA class. Whit Merrifield is the only guy id like to have long term in that lineup as of right now.
        My Teams:
        Buffalo Bills
        NY Yankees
        Charlotte Hornets
        Syracuse Orange

I'm thankful i always have to rebuild with the pittsburgh pirates. i love my team but it's rough. first thing i'm doing is imploding the roster: trading Polanco (for sure), Marte, Dickerson, Harrison, Nova, Freese, Cervelli. I'll do this around July assuming i'm doing awful. gonna do a mix of playing and quick manage to make the season go faster. gonna try to get top prospects and load up with players with less than 2 years of service, have a few guys in mind. gotta wait for the osfm rosters though. I'm so happy with this new retirement logic.

              Re: Starting a franchise

Usually play Online Franchise with my friends. Since that's not an option this year I'll be playing offline for the first time since MLB13. It'll be nice having to deal with fatigue and injuries again.

I'll be using my Cubs. Seeing how well I can do with the core in place. Hoping to keep Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber and Baez/Contreras for the long term.

I'll focus on building up the pitching in the organization. Even with how great the MLB staff is in a couple seasons it'll be showing it's age. I'll focus on getting young arms early in the franchise.

I'm excited to see how much success I have with the team in place.

I usually get close to 10 seasons done a year, playing about 40 games a season. Really excited about carry over saves as well, especially if Online isn't back in 19. I'll be able to get really deep into this franchise.

I like to rebuild teams, so I usually go with the worst team, but this year I'm thinking of doing 2 franchises. One a rebuild/project and the other my Cubbies. I guess I could do a 30 team control and run with the Cubs and then an American League team that needs rebuilding.

I always say I'll be a different team but end up being my Yankees.

With OOTP also being played this year I may just be the Yankees there and go with either the Braves or the Orioles on the Show.
If I really get into RTTS this year that may be my primary game mode with the Show.

I'm not sure if waiting on rosters or not as I would like to get going as soon as I'm comfy with sliders plus once I start it's my MLB world anyways.

                  We'll see....

                    Re: Starting a franchise

Plan is to start fresh this year after many seasons on the same franchise that was carried over. I am going to roll with my team the Mets as always.

Going to use 30 team control to make sure I handle the trades for teams and the free agent signings in the off season.

I am creating an excel spread sheet that list each teams starting 25 man plus their top 10 prospects and their contracts if they are not on a minimum deal. I will make sure I turn off budgets and then have a cap I set for each team they can never go over. I have a certain number that I will run for each team so that small market stay that way and I focus their moves on young players and big market makes splash. This also allows the players like Harpar and Machado to reach the market.

As for playing with the Mets I usually pick 3 starters in the past was always Noah, Degrom, and Harvey and play those games and the other to I use the sim feature to where I can still make the moves.

This year I dont see myself making man moves before the season begins. I might try and move Lagares but that is about it.

                      Re: Starting a franchise

My favorite team is the Astros but after so many years of trying to rebuild them and the past couple of years of trying to get them over the top, they have finally done it and it looks like they will be set up to do it again for a few more years at least. I can't use them anymore.

My first idea was to go with the Rays, but their stadium is so awful that I can't imagine playing so many games with them.

So I have it down to two possibilities... either the Royals or the Pirates. I'm not sure who I will go with yet.

Royals and Pirates are both good options with nice parks, if you wanna do the rays just do the right thing and never play in the trop, play in PNC or San Fran. All teams have nice uniforms so thats a bonus.

Jays: Guys like Donaldson, Happ, Smoak, Pillar will be traded at deadline to help the rebuild. Looking forward to using Vlad Jr and Bichette

Tigers: Continue rebuild. Trade Iggy and Fulmer. Try and trade Zimmerman. Whats the market for Castellanos?

Royals: Herrera, Perez, Gordon, Moose will likely be traded at deadline. Looking to add speed to that outfield.

Oakland: Keep course. Let the young guys take over. Think theyre not far off. Great pieces to build off of and not to much to trade. Maybe Lucroy at deadline. Need a young catcher and a front line SP

Seattle: Just contend. Find some SPing. Great lineup. Maybe i can trade a piece for a starter

Atlanta: Same as Oakland. Let the young guys take over. Swanson, Albies, Acuna and maybe Ruiz to go along with the young starters. Rotation of Teheran, Newcomb, Gohara, Allard, Sokora/Wright/Anderson looks formidable.

Miami: Well what is there to say. Looking forward to the challenge. Bour, Realmuto will most definitely be dealt.

Reds: Resign Hamilton. Keep Votto. Senzel, Peraza are the future here for me offensively. Wait for Hunter Greene to be ready. Definitely need bullpen help

Pirates: Marte will be dealt. Polanco possibly. Not much here really. Not a strong system. True challenge. Meadows will take over at some point.

Padres: Continue what theyre doing. Personally dpnt think theyre far off. Like the addition of Hosmer. Him and Myers will be my 3/4. Margot possibly in leadoff. Good depth in my eyes. Like Perdomo, Lamet at the top of my rotation. Think Espinoza will be a bp arm. Will trade Brad Hand to get more assets. Maybe i pull the trigger on the supposed Cubs trade at the winter meetings (Baez to SD and Hand/Perdomo to Cubs) or maybe theres a trade with the Yankees for Andujar.

Giants: This is the interesting one. Theyre an older team and no system to speak of. Will we contend in year 1? How long do I wait to start selling off the team?

As you can see, i like rebuilding teams. Like young teams with speed. Lol
You and me are pretty similar. I enjoy taking over a rebuild. I’m a hands in GM that likes to break it down and completely rebuild it. I’m doing a ‘17 with Miami Instarted after their sell off that I’ll carry over. For ‘18 I’ll always do my two hometown teams Reds and Tigers. The Giants are intriguing though. They are ripe for a rebuild and have no system. Curious if you leave budgets on or off?

I will continue my franchise from 17 and play that until the osfm rosters release. I play on hall of fame difficulty with pitching and hitting but with adjusted sliders to make the game as realistic as possible (and to help me out lol). Classic pitching meter and classic guess pitch. As of now I am in 2020 with the rangers and my team is constructed like this:

                              Rotation
                              Clayton Kershaw (L)
                              Matt Harvey (R)
                              Martin Perez (L)
                              Yohander Mendez (L)
                              Ariel Jurado (R)

                              Bullpen
                              Jeurys Familia (R) (closer)
                              Keone Kela (R)
                              Matt Bush (R)
                              Joe Palumbo (L)
                              Alex Claudio (L)
                              Jose Leclerc (R)
                              Jonathan Hernandez (R)

                              Catcher
                              Jose Trevino (R)
                              Robinson Chirinos (R)

                              Infielders
                              Jurickson Profar (S)
                              Roughed Odor (L)
                              Elvis Andrus (R)
                              Joey Gallo (L)
                              Drew Robinson (L)

                              Outfielders
                              Willie Calhoun (L)
                              Leody Taveres (S)
                              Nomar Mazara (L)
                              Delino DeShields (R)
                              Marwin Gonzalez (S)

                              Designated Hitter
                              Josh Hamilton (L)

I signed Clayton Kershaw to a Seven Year 195 Million Dollar Deal..(this was 20 mil more than he was asking) and Matt Harvey to a 4 year 90 million dollar deal. Which pretty much took all the money that I have (the show kind of portrays the rangers as a small/mid market team).

I had a Josh Hamilton CAP with real stats and I signed him in 17 when Shin Soo Choo, Drew Robinson AND Willie Calhoun all got hurt. And he hit .325 with 12 Homers and 26 RBI in 34 games..... so I signed him to an extension.... I know this is unrealistic and I don’t usually like to be unrealistic but with this I had to be... he will DH and play some 1B.

Adrian Beltre signed with the Yankees and I couldn’t afford to match it. That hurt a lot lol but it’s whatever. I traded Ronald Guzman, Pedro Gonzalez and Ronald Herrera to Tampa Bay for Chris Archer and Alex Colome. Both left via free agency after the season.

I lost the ALCS in 2019 to the Astros in 7 games. Jose Altuve hit into what should have been a double play but Odor threw the ball in the dirt to first and they scored the series winning run and beat me 4-3 on the scoreboard and the best of seven.

My most common lineup is this
                              Leody Taveres, CF
                              Elvis Andrus, 3B
                              Nomar Mazara, RF
                              Joey Gallo, 1B
                              Marwin González, DH
                              Willie Calhoun, LF
                              Rougned Odor, 2B
                              Jurickson Profar, SS
                              Jose Trevino, C

It's almost here! By Friday night I should have traded Steven Wright, Brock Holt, and Sandy Leon for either a 5th starter or a bullpen piece. My main goal between playing my 2018 season and then simming to 2023 (I always sim 5 years for season #2) is to get a high end arm or two into the rotation. The second the 2018 season is over, David Price (waste of space) is traded. Sale should still be a top 2 rotation piece at 32 (hopefully) and by then Jason Groome should be a staple at the top as well. The lineup is so young (Betts, Bogaerts, Benintendi, Devers, etc.) that I can afford to just focus on the pitching. I usually save about 4-5 copies of my season and do my sim a few times while I'm still playing my original season. All 162 games, all 9 innings, no quick counts. I have purchased a new controller, but seeing how I play the Yankees in my 3rd series, I will be waiting to unwrap it until after that is over...........:-). That lineup is going to be crazy stupid to pitch against.
