Also they made a huge stink about playing guys out of position, especially playing them at first base. There was a big conversation on Twitter that you shouldn't be able to take Ted Williams (has 69 fielding) and have him play like Goldschmidt (a gold glove first baseman with 90 fielding). Because right now that happens.

It seems that DD drove all of the gameplay improvements this cycle. redsox4evur mentioned the out-of-position thing and there was also the tiering of different fielders allowing for different animation branch points. Dolenz mentioned the tagging thing. There was also the catcher animations designed to prevent DD'ers from cheesing extra bases out of inappropriate situations. There may be an update or two I am forgetting about, but it seems like anti-cheesing DD was basically 100% of what they did.

And that benefits other modes as well. I can't tell you how many times in RTTS that I cursed getting thrown out at first by below average fielding shortstops making perfectly thrown jump throws to first base with 100% success rate.

Yep DD players have brought a lot of attention to different areas of the game that were not working well. The ones you mentioned also SDS supposedly completely reworked the brand new hitting engine from last year because DD players found out that you made the best contact by being just late on nearly every pitch. Whether it be hitting the ball further or just hitting it harder. But if you are just late on a pitch it's a better hit ball in 17. And this problem in turn allowed SDS to do any sort of pre-release beta (used to test servers and for feedback on the hitting engine).

I don't play DD much but when I do I don't like to play against other people. I'd rather play the CPU

Yeah, I was reluctant to try it out but it extended the life of the game for me.

When I would usually get bored of a franchise a couple of months in, I'd play some conquest games to change it up, then I'd realize I was halfway done with some missions and then finish those up. I wound up playing different modes in DD pretty much until now.

And I put no extra money into the game after buying it, Sony SD has been pretty good with not making the "cool rewards" unattainable and I had made plenty of stubs just playing games and selling cards as I went on

I don't care for all this DD and ultimate team crappy I wanted to I would play fantasy baseball
                  Or football for free!

Why do I buy sports games?? because I want it to be like what I see on TV

I'm not into game modes like Diamond Dynasty or MUT in Madden.

It's so easy for so many to dismiss those who don't play the game the same way they do.
Obviously it's an overgeneralization cause we can't check telemetry stuff. By the way, it's based on what you can easly see in the most popular web comunity in the world, which is Reddit. In the last two years, since the big focus in DD, the sub-reddit is all about cards, how to get cards, how to farm stubs, how to get diamonds, which card is better, etc... . Nothing wrong with that. And i'm sure there are here and there baseball fans which love to play Franchise and DD as well.
But you will not find anyone talking about real baseball stuff. And that's a fact. Just check it out when The Show 18 will be released. You will notice that around 90% of the threads are about DD. It's the same with others well know sport videogames like Fifa. Give a shot to EA forum: all the threads are in the Ultimate Team section of the forum. There are only a few about soccer and the answers they get is to "git gud".

so if DD is so great and this ultimate team stuff is so great.. and it's whats selling why don't these companies just say ' who cares about the actually baseball or football modes in a sports game' lets just do an entire game devoted to these modes.

Would the game sell. if SDS released a game called MLB DD 18 and that mode only was in and it was even more advanced with junk in it?

Yeah, it would sell. Not sure if I missed this above, but you still have actual football/baseball being played in the UT type modes. The foundation has to be there to have the extra modes. That is why the gameplay advancements caused by a certain mode impact all modes. Franchise type modes, which is my most played mode, are the same thing as DD/UT. It is just an interface with different bells and whistles that sits on top of the gameplay coding.

Yes last year it was the major focus. This year new servers and fixes to tags and catcher fixes.
                            MLB: Chicago Cubs
                            NFL: San Diego Chargers
                            NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
                            NBA: Chicago Bulls
                            NCAA: Iowa Hawkeyes

It would sell better than MLB Franchise 18 without a doubt.

                                Not in this household.
                                Franchise/Season mode or bust.
I'll leave DD & RTTS to the cool kids.
