I really need a statement from SDS. The fact that they're still silent on this is very disappointing.

Re: No Season Mode?
Hi folks. While the option for Season mode is no longer available, there are steps you can take to create a similar experience to it within Franchise mode.
- Set the GM Contracts option to OFF in the mode entry options list.
- On the Franchise Responsibilities page, set Player Development & GM Tasks to AUTO.
- From there, you can control how much or how little you want to control by visiting User Settings > Mode Specific Options to tailor what additional areas you want to control.

Re: No Season Mode?
In the last hour before the game went live the other night, the SDS folks were streaming talking about many features of the up coming release. I did not watch this stream live, I just watched the replay of it last night on YouTube because I wanted to see if there was any hint from the Stream that Season mode was removed. They talked about many modes not just DD. But throughout the hour long stream they just could not hide their enthusiasm for DD. Things like what will be the first thing you do when the game goes live, and many of the responses were "I am going to open up packs and begin assembling my DD team" and this was more than one SDS personality who said this.
Anyway in the stream they talked about Franchise mode, but they never drilled into the Franchise main screen so there was no way we could have known even if someone watched the stream that Season mode was turfed. Then one of the high profile SDS personalities said something that made me want to throw something at my TV. I didn't of course, that would be dumb. But he said "You can carry over all your saved files from MLB 17 to 18, this is something we will never take away". I am paraphrasing here, I'd have to go back and re-watch the stream to quote the exact words, but it was along these lines and I just said "You liar, that's not true".
We will likely never get a straight answer from them. Not all the SDS DEVs are bad. There is one or two of them who occasionally pop into here and I honestly do believe they want to make a better game for us the more serious people looking to emulate real baseball. But you know their hands are tied. However the brass at SDS stink with their dishonesty and deception. Now lets all go watch hours and hours of videos of people opening up packs.Last edited by My993C2; 03-24-2018, 11:12 AM.Comment

Re: No Season Mode?
It will certainly be interesting to see if they continue to ignore it. They absolutely could patch it back in, as the infrastructure for what they probably view as a dumbed-down franchise mode is easily there. Heck, look at games like Fortnite that basically added an entirely different game after initial release.
They would either be lying or just plain lazy if they say they couldn't do it. But Madden forced everyone to franchise years ago and I can't remember how upfront EA was about it or if lawsuits were threatened then too lolComment

Re: No Season Mode?
So the question was if carry over saves are still there:
Answer: "Yes, carry-over saves are still in MLB: The Show 18. They are still there."
Technically, the truth...but then again, an opportunity to tell many people that their particular saves would not carry over.
Make of it what you will.Comment

Re: No Season Mode?
In all honesty, I personally don't think the devs have actively tried to conceal the fact that they have removed the Season mode (I guess this is admittedly biased, as the claim is mostly based on the fact that talking with some of the devs, I never got that sort of impression).
It looks more like that they truly believed that the mode was nothing more than a "light" version of the Franchise mode and therefore believed we gamers do not have any issues migrating to the Franchise mode, so long as the remaining mode is improved to absorb the less flashy brother. So I think to the devs, the mode really only had that much value. Hence it did not even come to their mind that the removal would be such a big deal.
But as the outpouring of anger here shows, that assumption of course is not true and I think an incidence like this actually indicates that the ones making decisions at SDS are not properly interpreting what the raw numbers from the telemetry data indicate.
Hence the massive resource shift into a now unimaginative card-collecting mode like Diamond Dynasty (because vanity metrics certainly can show spikes in popularity, as all the YouTube and Twitch videos attest), but a series of cuts on the elements that are harder to discern from raw numbers, although they may have been essential to what had been making The Show attractive to the "niche" gamers in OS.
I think this is closer to what has been going on with The Show in recent years. I myself attended a few Community Days at SDS before the transition era (when SDS started selling Diamond Dynasty as the main selling point of the game) but feel ironic that I had been on the side to be abandoned.Comment

Re: No Season Mode?
Nope. It's not there. I'm carrying a season file from 2016 and now it's done, unless I continue it in '17. Lot of time and effort put into my season mode and I never stopped to think they'd take it out.
No warning??? Perhaps they mentioned this somewhere, but I didn't see it. Wasted money, cause I wouldn't have bought if I knew.
Utterly ridiculous...promote the continuation of saved files from previous years and then take it away....and I rarely ever open my mouth to complain about this game but this is unacceptable.
Thumbs down, SCEA...perhaps you made a great game this year but to do this under the radar...awful!

Re: No Season Mode?
Season mode at least gives you the option to edit the amount of games you want to play. In franchise mode you are locked into 162 games. Ive always viewed franchise mode as more of a GM mode. Since there is more simming involved.
In season mode I usually like to just edit the amount of games played down to 29 games. Thats much more manageable.

Re: No Season Mode?
I am greatful, and i just played a game of '17 and am still amazed at how great it looks and plays.
Don't agree about the competition part though.
The 2k game certainly was not a better one, but the Show took stuff from this game to improve their own. Among which are the play now / play live as well as the stick pitching (although 2k's was better imo).
The show would certainly benefit from having some good and honest competition.
Thanks for the heads up, but i'm really curious : why did you guys drop season mode? This is unlike SDS, taking stuff out.
And secondly...why didn't you announce this? Never mind, i know the answer to this one : money.
