Mets complete the three-game season-opening sweep of the Phillies, although they had to work overtime for the last win. Down 3-1 in the 9th inning, New York scored two to even the score and then put up four runs in the 10th, three on a HR by Asdrubal Cabrera, as the Mets won 7-3 in 10 innings.

New York heads to Washington next before opening the 2019 home slate at Citi Field.

Lester threw a complete game gem today with 10 Ks vs the Pirates.

          PIT 0-4-1
          CHI 3-4-0

Last I looked the Brewers we’re beating the Cards but of course the Card came back. Oh wow, I just check the box score. Cards win 3-2 in a 19 inning game!

Bad news, we’re still down 1/2 game. Good news they used 7 pitchers. Hopefully they are tired for several days. Too bad it was game 1 of a series.

The Marlins pulled the plug on the Dalton Couch experiment after the pitcher gave up 8 runs in 5 innings in a 9-6 Marlins loss. His ERA soared to 7.50 after the outing and we was optioned to AAA.

"I guess the Diamondbacks got one over on us, " Marlins GM commented, "At least Couch's salary number is low."

The Marlins called up phenom Jason Engle. The 20-year-old's first inning as a major leaguer? How about striking out the side in order.

Of course, baseball being baseball, he gave up 2 runs after his team spotted him a 2-0 lead.

However, the kid kept his cool and wouldn't allow another run or hit after than second inning. He threw 5 innings of no-hit baseball after that. The highly-touted screwball was an effective pitch, keeping the Nats off balanced, even the fearsome Jeffrey Romero, arguably the best hitter in the game right now.

            Engle's final line: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 83 pitches.

"Very impressive, " Maxwell Lima, the Marlins catcher commented, "His ball had a lot of movement, hitters were taking ugly swings once we got in sync and figure out what was working."
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

The Cardinals winning streak ended at 5 after losing the series finale to the Cubs 5-4. Carlos Martinez exited the game in the 2nd inning with elbow tightness, leading to a long day for the bullpen. Tyler Lyons pitched 4 solid innings to keep us in the game, but John Brebbia gave up a solo hr to Javier Baez in the 8th that proved to be the difference.

Carlos Martinez hasn't been placed on the DL just yet, as we will see how he is after a few days.

Next up is a 3 game series in Busch with the Reds to close out the month of May.

                For
SP Luis Severino (86/A) 5 years of control

                And B potential prospect

Overall I think both deals are pretty fair and the CPU recommend pick accepts it

i think they're fair. all good pitchers with Noah and Aroldis being the better ones of the deal, but there's a B graded prospect to buff the deals out.

Cardinals returned to their winning ways last night with a 2-1 walk off win vs the Reds on Memorial Day.

Lance Lynn was brilliant. Lynn went 7 1/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 ER, 2 walks, and struck out 14 including Joey Votto all 3 times he faced him. Lance Lynn's lone earned run came in the 7th when Alex Blandino hit a solo homer to left to make it 1-0. Lynn was being pushed due to tired bullpen and went 2 more batters than he probably should have as he ended the night at 119 pitches. We were trying to get him through the 8th and then allow Rosenthal to come in for the save.

The Cardinals tied it in the bottom of the 8th thanks to a Randal Grichuk RBI single. In the 9th the Cardinals had the bases loaded with 1 out when Kolten Wong was rung up on strikes on a horrible, horrible call. With 2 outs, bases loaded and the game looking as though it was going to extra innings, Marwin Gonzalez came off the bench to deliver a single in the gap on a 1-1 pitch to secure the 2-1 walk off victory for the Cardinals. The Cardinals have won 6 of their last 7 games and lead the NL Central now by 4 games over the Pirates and Cubs.

The Cardinals get a bit of good news injury wise as Jordan Walden has been activated from the 10 Day DL and will be available in the bullpen for game 2 of the series vs the Reds. In a corresponding move, Jordan Hicks has been optioned back to Memphis.

                    Cubs 5-7-0
                    Pirates 2-5-0

Big win, but the Cardinals cruise to a win over the Brewers. We remain a half game back with 5 to go. Just 2 games until the showdown with the Cards for the division.

Indians clinched a playoff spot today in other news.

In other randomness, the calendar is always interesting. I seem to loser on Sunday and Tuesday a lot. I had lost 9 Sunday games in a row at one point. I’ve also noticed trends where specific days are higher scoring that other days of the week. Might be coincidence.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

A frustrating series with the Blue Jays, the O's lost 2-1 on the series.

The first game, The O's won 8-4, and chased a starter in back-to-back games with 10 hits and 6 runs in the first inning, and then another solo shot in the 2nd inning to chase Jays pitcher Stroman.

The O's had to watch reliever Castro give up a four run 7th inning, and then had to bring on the closer to get out of a bases loaded, no outs jam in the 9th, to barely escape.

Games 2 & 3 were frustrating ones. As the O's collected hits but leaving men on bases in the early innings and critical fielding errors late on in both games would come back to bight them as they lost 6-2 and 5-3 despite out hitting the Jays.

Now we head to Fenway park to take on the Sox who have lost only two games in the season and are already 3 games clear at the top of the division – the Jays and Orioles sit in equal second with a 7-5 record.

                      My batting is diabolical with

                      Beckham
                      Trumbo
                      Valencia
                      Gallo
                      Hernandez and
                      Romine

                      all batting under .190 ...

Romine though I accept. He's been driving the ball hard, just at fielders. Plus he's called all 7 games that I've won. Sisco calls a horrendous game. Constant fastballs up in the zone on power hitters, rarely asks for corners to be nibbled at... he just seems to have no rhyme or reason to his pitch calling.

He is however batting .445 with 1 HR and 5 RBI's in 4 games.

as a team were batting a poultry .223 (26th in the league); but with an ERA of 3.77 (8th in the league).

Maybe my default sliders are geared too much into the favour of pitching? I'm thinking about raising either contact, or solid hits by one for both CPU & User to get more hits per game. But I'm reluctant to mess with them.

My plummet continues, it's August 11 and I went from being 4.5 games up after the All Star break to now being a half game behind first place. I just dropped 2 of 3 to the Reds but I thought my bats were starting to wake up, but I just got shut out by the Marlins. I've got David Wright coming off the DL in a few days, hopefully that is the kick in the *** my team needs

Gonna start doing some franchise updates. Might not do one for every series but I'm going to try. Had the craziest game I've ever had (and that's saying something) just now against the Cardinals. I was mashing the ball like it was on Rookie difficulty. I actually double-checked to make sure I didn't somehow accidentally turn the level down. Sure enough, it was still sitting there at Hall of Fame. Felt good to finally hit like the Cubs are able to. Anyway, here's the update.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I wanted to do a team update at the ASG Break, but I ended up playing a game after the break, and came into a very good position to make a HUGE trade to help us down the stretch, so I made it, and I kinda want to brag about it. With that being said:

BREAKING: PIRATES ALL IN ON 2018, TRADE FOR ARENADO

The Pittsburgh Pirates shocked the baseball world late last night after their comeback 8-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee to extend their 6 game winning streak, as they put their "money where their mouth is" and brought in 3X All Star 3B Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies. In exchange, the Pirates sent back Tyler Glasnow, and two minor league prospects in Miguel Andujar, and Josh Dale. Arenado joins the Pirates, and will obviously take of 3B duties from Josh Harrison, swapping Harrison back to 2B. Arenado is expected to join the club in Milwaukee this afternoon, and he has already talked with manager Clint Hurdle, requesting to be put in the lineup for Saturday's game. It's figured that he'll hit 3rd in the lineup. Arenado's 18 HR's will certainly assist the Pirates power numbers, as they sit in dead last in Team HR's. Arenado has also been a defensive stalwart in Colorado, winning gold gloves in each of his last 3 seasons with the club, and racking up two Silver Sluggers in the process.

The Pirates will certainly miss the output of Tyler Glasnow, who was seemingly coming into his own at the MLB level. After working out of the bullpen for the better part of his career, the soon to be 25-year-old was proving that he very well could be a key part to the Pirates rotation in the future. Unfortunately for Glasnow, the impressive season turned in by Top Prospect LHP, Mark Miller made Glasnow expendable. Along with Glasnow, the Pirates will lose 3B Prospect Miguel Andujar, who was brought over from the Yankees in February. Andujar had difficulties adjusting to the Pirates system, and was seen as the backup 3B in Altoona with Ke'Bryan Hayes with the club. Possibly the most interesting piece of the deal, is FSL All Star, Josh Dale. Dale went unsigned after the 2017 MLB Draft, and the Pirates snapped him up over the Winter. Dale had possibly been the best SS in the Pirates system (save Pablo Sanchez), and we may never know what he might have amounted to as a Pirate.

With Glasnow's departure, Mark Miller has been added to the 40-man roster, and selected by the Pirates from AAA Indianapolis. Miller, who has been selected as both the starter for the MLB Futures Game as well as the AAA All-Star Game is a 3rd Round Pick of the Pirates from 2017. Miller will be the 2nd Pirates draft pick from 2017 to join the club this year, joining Pablo Sanchez.

The Pirates will debut both Miller and Arenado this afternoon at Miller Park, with a 4:35 first pitch. Miller will stack up against Zach Davies and the Brewers.

*Side note - Arenado is probably my favorite player outside of the Pirates organization, and I probably spent an hour thinking about making this move. Glasnow is one of my favorite players to pitch with in this game. Eventually, I just thought to myself how pissed off I was we got dropped in 4 in the NLDS last year because we couldn't hit, and at this point, I'm going for broke. Can't wait to get home and finish up the game I started (already started his 1st game).

He's my favorite player outside of the Mets. I'm keeping my payroll low right now so I can break the bank if I need to get in a bidding war for him after the 2019 season. I'm going to explore an off-season trade for him too but I don't know if I have the assets to pull that off

If I could have dealt Miller (who I called up in his place), Dale, and Mitch Keller/another A POT prospect, I would have done it in a heartbeat, Rockies basically wouldn't talk unless they got Glasnow. I could have pulled it off with less, but it didn't seem fair. Glasnow is good, don't get me wrong, but his sim attributes are no good on my roster. His K rating is super high, but he also has low ratings for HR, BB, and H, so basically unless someone is controlling him, he's useless.
