Me too, I'd normally play about twenty games and then find a more up to date roster and start over. This is the first year I decided to stick with the first roster I downloaded and it looks like I'm going to actually finish a season

it's weird the roster thing. default rosters are the best to play with imo

... they're the starting day rosters. the latest rosters (the ones I'm using) alotta rebuilding teams don't even have a closer ... or a balanced rotation with MLB calibre starters.

I'm 18 games into my season, and am totally considering starting over with defaults because i'm coming up against half built rosters from the CPU teams. while other teams are stacked (like LAD with Seager and Machado at SS.

in fact this conversation may have sealed the deal. haha

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Our winning streak came to an end last night as we took it on the chin from the Pirates, 11-3. Jack Flaherty has been struggling lately, but last night he didn't pitch poorly as he went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs, and striking out 6. The problem was the bullpen who combined to give up 7 runs over 3 innings and thus losing the game. Tough night.

Randal Grichuk continues to struggle, so much so that the Cardinals have sent him down to Memphis to see if he can't get things straightened out. The Cardinals are not planning on calling anyone up in his place at the moment as we will probably activate Bader from the DL and add him to the 25 man roster instead of sending him down to Memphis. Oscar Mercado will take over everyday left field duties while Grichuk is in Memphis.

The Cardinals did briefly kick around the idea of trading for Jackie Bradley Jr who the Red Sox have put up on the block. JBJ is having a good season although he is doing so from a bench role. He is hitting .340 with a homerun and 12 RBI's. JBJ is making $1.8M per year and has a year left, which was intriguing, especially if Grichuk can't return to form (he's a free agent at the end of the year). But with the depth that we have, adding JBJ would only further clutter the outfield and if Grichuk did return to form, then you have another upset player sitting on the bench. If something happens injury wise in the outfield, then possibly we will revisit this idea, but for now we will continue forward and work our way through our injuries.

Next up is a 4 game series with the Rockies at home.

Having played this game forever, last year was my first franchise, which I kick myself for missing out.

I legitimately won the World Series with the Indians, I swear. I roll into year two and my squad has absolutely sucked. The pitching staff has scuffled and I can't hit worth beans, I'm 10 under .500...GAWD! I'm about to fire myself! My dudes need to pride-up and start playing with some heart.

          I love it!!!!

Lookin' to get back in the saddle this weekend with my Bucs,

I keep thinking and motivating myself to keep going. I really want the World Series this year. I feel very confident in this team. I want to get to the playoffs and play them, but at the same time, I know that this team's "time" is limited. I'll be letting three key players walk in J-Hay. Cole, and Arenado (unless they take dramatic pay decreases) in the offseason, and I want to milk this for all it's worth!

This is why I like default. Everything feels more balanced to me out of the box.

My franchise is its own universe, so once I start what happens in real life is largely irrelevant for me anyway.

yeah this is the way i think about it too. the game creates it's own reality from the moment i start my franchise.

with that said i loaded up the defaults and started over. lol.

I'm still going to rebuild with the O's, but I'll do it my way.

                  Machado to LAD for Buehler
O'Day, Barch & Gausmann to Atlanta for Carmargo
Britton to Yankees for an A rated AA RHP starter & a B rated AAA reliever

I also made some minor trades for Boog Powell, Austin Romine, Keynan Middleton and LHP Kazmir.

I'll play one game in each series for the first month, and then I'll be exactly where i was in my previous franchise.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I just had a huge series win vs Washington and I'm pumped. I dropped the first game 2-0, then took a 2-0 lead in the second game and blew it in the 6th. It took 15 innings but I won with a walkoff. Then game three I've got a Bartolo Colon vs Max Scherzer matchup and I decide to push my chips to the center of the table and pitch deGrom on short rest and he pretty much claimed the Cy Young with seven innings of one run ball and 12 Ks. Right now he's sitting at 14-3, 1.82 ERA, 244 Ks and 188.1 innings pitched.

I got a hit batsman, walk, sacrifice, and a groundout for a run in the 4th off Scherzer, then in the 5th he walks deGrom to start the inning and a get a two run HR from Brandon Nimmo that barely stayed fair. I'm sitting .5 games back and even in the loss column but I can't celebrate for two long because I'm off to Chicago for three games vs the 94-36 Cubs who have won 11 straight

I got hammered by the Cubs 7-3 in my first game of the series and came back to win the next two 6-2 and 7-1. The most encouraging part of the series is that none of my runs in the last two games game via the HR. Thanks to some help from the Phillies, I now have a half game lead in the division.

Matz would have brought a no hitter in to the 9th inning, but somehow the play in the video below was ruled a hit. He ended up giving up another hit in the 9th so it really doesn't matter, but I would have been ready to protest the official scorer if he didn't give up another hit

How do you guys deal with huge unrealistics stats on CPU controlled team games? Is there a way to fix it?

I mean, players with 55 power-hitting are getting 6 HRs in first four games of the season...things like that.

I Wonder if as the season goes on, the numbers will get too bizarre...

I've personally found that things even themselves out as the season goes on.

Sure, there might be someone who has a huge breakout season (This happens IRL!), but everyone seems to level themselves out reasonably fast. It also works the opposite way (Look at Stanton IRL in April).

Decided to take several days off after completing the regular season. Finally picked up game 1 of the divisional series today. The Rockies beat the Cards 10-2 in the wild card game. Cardinals win 99 games and are eliminated 1 game into the playoffs. Sadly, I I didn’t want to play the Rockies because they tend to kick my butt.

We give Chris Tillman the ace spot for the playoff since he has the best era and record this season. He proceeds to get blown up giving up 2 HRs in the first 2 innings and 7 earned runs in 4 innings of work. We’re down 7-1 early, only hit being a Jeff Scruggs solo shot. William Hopson was owning us with his submarine style pitching. Couldn’t pick anything up at Wrigley in the daytime without the batters eye.

The Cubs came to life in the 6th behind a 3 run monster HR from Rizzo, then Herb Fuentes went back to back to get the game back to 7-5. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, Rockies take game 1.

                              Rockies 7-10-0
                              Cubs 5-5-1

Rays beat the Tigers in the AL wild card.

We were 1-5 vs the Rockies in the regular season.

                              Other series

                              Angels vs Indians

                              Rays vs Red Sox

                              Marlins Vs Dodgers 1

I haven't updated in a few days and that is because I am bit upset with myself as I did something that I don't/wouldn't normally do. I essentially reversed the trade I did with the Yankees, resulting in my sending Andrew Miller and Alexander Vargas back for Magnerius Sierra and Sam Freeman.

After the trade I was excited and Andrew Miller was lights out, but our bullpen was off balance. Having Miller, Osuna, Walden, and Rosenthal really upset the flow of how things worked before, especially in the earlier innings because I didn't want to use those 4 guys prior to the 7th. Couple that with the Yankees moved Sierra to the minor leagues, I decided, although I hated doing it, to essentially reverse the trade. Good thing is they accepted, so now Freeman and Sierra are back with the Cardinals and Miller and Vargas are back in New York. Really glad to have things back to normal, but feel as though I did something wrong even though all I did was re-offer the trade. I didn't use an old save or anything.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
