    2018 Oakland A’s Fantasy Franchise

May 4: A subpar 4-5 road trip has had helped the Angels pull within 1.5 games of us. We now sit at 19-12 after losing 10 of the last 15 games. Lots of inconsistent ball being played in all aspects. When the offense gets us a lead early, pitching can’t hold it. When our pitching throws a gem, the offense lays an egg. Our defense has made some mind boggling mistakes/errors lately too. When it rains it pours I guess. Luckily we’ve stayed pretty healthy so far without any MLB players having to miss more than a game or two.

Harper’s hit streak ended at 23 games. He is still killing it though, leading the league in hitting(.393) and HR(17). Cody Bellinger edged him out for AL player of the month for April though.

Ohtani has had some bad luck as his last 3 starts he’s taken an L because of a lack of run support. The A’s have only scored a total of 5 runs in those 3 starts, including yesterday’s loss of 2-0 being blanked by Chris Sale. Ohtani has hit 5 HR now on the year in 47 ABs.

Khris Davis caught fire on the trip hitting 7 HR over a 7 game period including a 3 HR game in a win over the Mariners at Safeco. This brings his season total to 15 and his average is back into the .220s.

Back home now to hopefully get back to playing winning baseball. Quick 6 game stand vs Baltimore and Houston and then back on the road for 10 games.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'm about 4-7 or 4-8 with the Padres. Won on Opening Day 7-6 in 17 innings thanks to a Milwaukee throwing error. The Brewers took the last two in the series, then we split with Colorado in a four game set at Petco Park. Went on the road, and got swept at Houston (not shocking), and went to Coors Field and took the first game from the Rockies, I think they took the second (can't recall if I finished it or saved in-game).

Most games have been competitive aside from a 13-4 pounding Milwaukee put on me. I've had some moments when I'm prone to giving up some homers. I'm trying to pitch to my pitcher's side, so if I have a right-hander, he's pitching low and inside to right-handed hitters, and low and away to left. Things that cut across the plate are getting teed off on right now.

Injury-wise, Carlos Asuaje missed a week or so with a small injury. Allen Cordoba was called up in his place, but has since returned to El Paso.

No one has really taken off in the division yet, I believe the Dodgers are leading with something like a 7-4 mark.

Spring training is upon us for the 2019 season. The only major move I made was trading for JT Realmuto, he's going to help lengthen my lineup and he has great speed for a catcher, at 75. I've gotten faster at catcher, Nimmo is now my every day RF which increases my speed in RF, and I moved Jay Bruce to first base. While Bruce won't ever be mistaken for Billy Hamilton, he's replacing Adrian Gonzalez, who ran like he had a refrigerator tied to his back so we've increased our speed at three positions which was a goal of mine for the off season. I'm trying to rely less on the HR for my offense and the extra speed should help.

Familia is back after a 53 save season and I brought back Trevor Rosenthal as my 8th inning guy. He was a great mid season free agency pickup last year although he had an awful post season. The rest of the bullpen spots are up for grabs. I've got a bunch of flame throwing guys that can't hit the broad side of a barn so while I'd usually sim through spring training, I'm going to need to play most of the games out to see which guys will make the team. Last year I went with a six man bench and a six man bullpen since my starters were pitching so deep in to games but I may have to carry an extra bullpen arm due to the uncertainty

The White Sox finish June at 42-42 in 4th place in AL Central 2.5 behind First Place Minnesota and Cleveland.

Offense is picking it up in the month of June now the 10th ranked team in Avg, Tied for 4th in HR's and 14th in runs scored. Jose Abreu leading the way batting .324 with 28 HR's and 68 RBI's. Which puts him 3rd in the AL in Avg, 2nd in HR's, and Tied for 1st in RBI's.

Pitching is still at the bottom with the 26th Ranked team in ERA and Runs allowed. Nate Jones is 2nd in the AL in Saves, tho.

The First Year Player Draft went pretty good.

1st pick was Richie Cortez, a 21 Year old 55 OVR 93 POT Left Fielder.
2nd pick was Kevin DiBiase, a 18 Year old 63 OVR 83 POT Left handed Starting Pitcher
3rd Pick was Vinny Escobar, a 20 Year old 71 OVR 75 POT Shortstop
4th Pick was Anthony Jennings, a 21 Year old 55 OVR 73 POT 3rd Baseman
5th Pick was Omar Salgado, a 21 year old 60 OVR 96 POT Left handed starting Pitcher
6th Pick was Alex Saucedo, 22 Year old 55 OVR 63 POT Left handed starting pitcher

              My longest is 20 innings.

That 17-inning game, because my mentality is whatever it takes to win the current game, I used everyone in the pen, and THEN (thank goodness it was opening day and not middle of the season), my 5th starter and then my 4th starter, who got the win (and then won his "season debut" to quickly jump out to 2-0 on the season (Clayton Richard))

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We have now dropped 2 straight to the Reds in a 4 game series and our lead over the Cubs has shrunk down to 4 games. Injuries continue to plague our team as now Lance Lynn is on the DL with an elbow injury, that could potentially put him out the rest of the year. We have recalled Alex Reyes from Memphis to take his spot, as Miles Mikolas will not be back until the first part of September. We thought about bringing up Kyle Funkhouser, but decided to go with Alex Reyes instead. We may bring up Funkhouser though to replace Luke Weaver who is having a difficult time at the major league level.

We are awaiting Magnerius Sierra to return from the DL in 5 days from a fractured hand to help with depth in the outfield. Oscar Mercado will be optioned to Memphis when Sierra returns. Piscotty isn't due to return until mid-September so we will be at September call ups when he returns and not have to make a roster move.

Dioner Navarro just returned from the DL but is currently playing the role of backup catcher, as Carson Kelly is in a nice groove at the plate hitting ,370 over his last 10 games. He is also doing a great job behind the plate as he has thrown out 7 of 8 base stealers.

Our bullpen continues to be shaky and instead of making a waiver trade, we decided to bring up Miguel Socolovich to try and give us productive innings from the pen. Tyler Lyons was optioned to Single A ball to make room, but it was more because Lyons was seriously fatigued from over work the last 3 games vs that of performance. Lyons will return after the series finale against the Reds on Sunday. Who will be optioned down between Brebbia and Socolovich remains to be determined. Socolovich is out of options and would have to clear waivers, so we may put Brebbia down until September call ups.

We will get back at it in the series finale with the Reds as we try to split the 4 game series. Alex Reyes will make his 2020 debut.

Really, really bad time to start my worst slump of the year. Two weeks remaining in the regular season and while I have the division locked up I just lost three straight to the Cincinnati Reds. It’s only the second time I’ve been swept all year.

I have the best record on baseball and the Reds have the worst. I took a 6-0 lead in Game 1 of the series by the third inning but blew it, losing 11-8. The next two games I was shutout, 2-0 and then 3-0.

Before the month of September I had been shutout one time all year. In the month of September I have been shutout four times!

Definitely in the midst of my worst slump of the year. Just dropped my fourth straight and I've now lost five out of my last six. Last six games...

                    Lost to Brewers, 9-0
                    Won against Brewers, 4-1
                    Lost to Reds, 11-8
                    Lost to Reds, 2-0
                    Lost to Reds, 3-0
                    Lost to Diamondbacks, 6-1

I went 24 straight innings without scoring a run and I've now scored just one run over my last 28 innings. Pitching is awful all of a sudden, really worried about the playoffs at this point.

Finally able to get back into the win column as I ended up taking the last two of three over the Diamondbacks. But man has Schwarber ever fallen off. He was (and still is hanging onto) the leader for NL MVP. Crushing the ball all year, high average, tons of home runs, tons of RBIs. With ten games remaining in the year he's been stuck on 51 home runs and 127 RBIs for a long time. I bet so far in the month of September he only has two home runs and about 3-4 RBIs. I strike out so much with him now as well. It's like a completely different player.

Hopefully he can hang onto the MVP.

Sounds like what wound up happening to me in Year 1 of my Mets franchise. Injuries didn't help, but the team picked the worst time to stop hitting and pitching like they had for a majority of the season.

Some may say it's, "scripted," and perhaps it is, but I love the variety of The Show. I go on a terrible streak where I can't push across a run for days and just now I had my biggest thrashing I've ever had on this game (and I've played it since 2008). I beat the White Sox 18-3, I had 20 hits and 6 home runs. Absolutely crushing the ball.

Now the next game I'll probably have one run on four hits. Haha.

Nine games to go, currently and MLB-best 102-51.

                            2018 Oakland A’s Fantasy Franchise

May 11: we went 4-2 on the quick Homestand, taking each series 2-1 and now own a 23-14 record, leading the Angles by 2.5 in the West. After demolishing Baltimore 13-2 in the opener, the next 5 games were decided by 3 or less runs including both our losses which were 1-run losses. Our pitching was great throughout the 6 games, highlighted by two Shutouts(we only had 1 in the first 32 games). Charlie Morton continued his brilliance pitching a CG SHO vs the O’s while striking out 7. Then 2 games later Rookie phenom Michael Kopech has his best outing of the season blanking the Astros through 8 innings while racking up 7 ks to outduel Yu Darvish before turning the ball over to Jordan Hicks for the save in the 1-0 victory! Krush Davis solo homer in the 2nd inning was the only run of the game.

Our big bombers continue to lead the way as Harper, Bellinger and Davis each have hit a league best 19 HR and they are also 1-3 in RBI, with Bellinger leading the majors with 41!

10 game road trip vs the AL East(NYY, BOS, TOR) is up next for the A’s.

Travis Shaw had to go on the 10 day DL after legging our a triple in the 9th of the 1-run
Loss to the Orioles. We should have him back when we head to Toronto.

This is what keeps up coming back! Sometimes you think the game has almost gotten too easy and your team is dominating and then the wheels fall off and your offense can’t get a damn hit. You end up with 4-5 “cold” guys in your lineup and have a bad run of 8-10 games and it brings you right back down to reality.

Then sometimes it makes you change your focus a bit or make some changes to the lineup, whether small or major and then boom right back on track. I love this ****!

                                OVERVIEW
What a month of baseball in May for my 2023 White Sox. 22-5 definitely feels like the best month I've had with my team. With the solid month and the sweep of the Indians to end the month, we are already a solid eight games above the Tribe in the AL Central.

The month included a couple of long winning streaks (8 in the middle of the month and 5 to end the month) the month also saw a 17 game hitting streak by Rhys Hoskins who started the year off slow in April but appears to be back to his 2022 MVP ways. Johnny Shinjo and Valadimir Guerro Jr. are the strugglers on offense for us (Shinjo: .217 AVG/.450 SLG %/.688 OPS and Guerro Jr:.244 AVG/.449 SLG%/.745 OPS)

Michael Conforto is leading the AL in homeruns (17) and I was able to hit the 200th of his career in our last game of May. I really wanted to get him that milestone and was worried I'd miss it due to me not playing every game...luckily I was able to get it..pretty cool moment.

Pitching has been dominate which is to be expected from the #1 ranked staff in the MLB. June will see us look to further separate ourselves from the Indians although, beating a 22-5 mark will be tough.
