    2023 World Series Game Two

    Chicago White Sox
    VS.
    Los Angeles Doders

    Final score:
    White Sox:5
    Dodgers:0

Kopech shines as Sox tie series

Michael Kopech out performed future hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw in game two of the World Series.

Kershaw pitched just five innings giving up four runs, one walk while striking out three. Kopech pitched a complete game shut out while allowing only six hits and getting eight strikeouts.

The White Sox were consistent in the first half of the game, scoring exactly one run in each of the first four innings. Another run would be added in the 8th when Michael Conforto would hit a moon shot that just squeaked over the right field wall.

Game three will see the series move on to Los Angeles. If all goes as planned, the White Sox will look to win their second consecutive world series title away from home.

    Series Tied 1-1

Indians sign Corey Seager to 4 year $54.4M deal

The Indians have found their replacement for Francisco Lindor who signed with the Yankees earlier this offseason. The Indians have signed SS Corey Seager to a 4 year $54.4M deal to be the new everyday SS. The Indians need some pitching, but they have a pretty good lineup, as they signed Mike Trout last year to a mega deal.

        Other Signings

Orioles signed Max Scherzer to a one year $7.4M deal

Astros signed Scott Doolittle to a one year $5.6M deal

Blue Jays signed Hunter Strickland to a one year $2.2M deal

Tigers signed Carlos Santana to a one year $3.8M deal

The Cardinals are still evaluating their roster and what is available and how best to adjust this roster.

With a little over a week to go in May the Yankees sit at 40-10. Followed up the 2 game sweep in Miami by taking 3 out of 4 from the Astros. The Yankees made a major announcement in the days leading up to the third game of the series, announcing that they will be moving back into the Old Yankee Stadium from that point forward. (Let’s pretend this is an alternate timeline where it was never torn down.)

Yankees Vs Astros game 1: Yankees win 9-6.

Yankees Vs Astros game 2: Astros win 4-3.

Yankees Vs Astros game 3: Yankees win 3-2.
The first game back in The House That Ruth Built did not disappoint. Kershaw went 7 strong holding Houston to 2 runs, Chapman then followed him up with a rare 2 inning appearance holding Houston scoreless to secure the victory. New York took the lead in the bottom of the 6th off a Judge solo shot and held on.

Yankees Vs Astros game 4: Yankees win 7-6. Houston nearly rallied back in the 9th putting up 3 runs but ultimately came up short.

After that the lowly Rangers came to town for 3.
The Yankees took 2 of 3 winning the final 2 by scores of 7-6, and 5-3. Why did the Yankees not get the sweep? Sonny Gray. He somehow got destroyed by the Rangers lineup allowing 5 runs before being forced out after only 3 innings. Little did he and fans know that that would be the final time he’d pitch as a Yankee.

After the conclusion of the series the Yankees announced a trade. He has been shipped to Philly along with 2B Brock Holt in exchange for 75 OVR B potential SP Yadier Alvarez, 79 OVR 3B Maikel Franco, and 77 OVR SP Drew Hutchison who is only involved to make it work financially. Hutchison and his 1.5M salary for this year was quickly flipped to the Dodgers in a salary dump move.

The prize of the deal is obviously Yadier Alvarez but he’s not perfect. He’s been struggling so far this season with a 4.80 ERA through 45.0 innings in the minors for Philly.

Maikel Franco is an interesting piece. Franco lost his starting job over the offseason when the Phillies signed 3B Anthony Rendon to a 5 year deal. Franco has struggled to figure it out at the MLB level, his AVG hasn’t reached .255 since 2016, and he hasn’t hit 20 HR’s since 2017. Hopefully a change of scenery can jumpstart him. He still has potential at age 27. He likely doesn’t have a future in NY, best case scenario is he lights it up at AAA and gets moved for a prospect to a team in need of a 3B at the deadline. He’ll get every chance to do as the everyday 3B in Scranton.

Sonny Gray’s time as a Yankee has ended. He fell off after a nice 2018 season where he turned in a 3.13 ERA in 200+ innings. In 2019 he regressed to a 4.26 ERA in over 200 innings. It’s been a rough start to 2020 for Gray as well as he’s pitched to a 6.00 ERA through 51 innings. Apparently the Yankee FO has already had enough. Phillies are getting desperate to save their season as they sit at 24-25, under .500. They are 5.5 games out in the East and 4.5 games out in the WC. They still have time but we presented them with an opportunity to make a move now and they pulled the trigger on it.

Sliding back out of the postseason would be a huge disappointment for a team that won 90 games last season and made it to the NLCS before being eliminated. Gray will slot in as their number 2 behind Arrieta. I think he’ll be good for them. Holt was hitting over 300 in AAA for us but was just depth, he’ll serve as a bench upgrade for them.

With Severino not due back from the DL for another 3-4 weeks the Yankees made a move to bring in an outside replacement for Gray.

BREAKING NEWS: Yankees Acquire Patrick Corbin. The Yankees surprised the baseball world again as news broke that Corbin was headed to the Bronx. In return the Yankees are sending back A Potential 74 OVR SP Justus Sheffield and B potential 64 OVR SS Arquimedes Gamboa. Gamboa will head to AA while Sheffield will be used at the MLB level immediately out of the bullpen.

Corbin is off to a great start with a 2.27 ERA through 67 innings. He’s yet to reach 200 innings in a season in his career. In 2016 he had a 5.15 ERA, in 2017 he had a 4.03 ERA, in 2018 he had a 3.95 ERA, and last year he had a 3.41 ERA. He’s steadily improved and we hope he can sustain this hot start. He steps into Gray’s spot in the rotation.

Arizona finds themselves pretty much out of it in last place in the West 10.5 games out and 7.5 out in the wildcard without much hope of a significant turnaround so they decided to cash in Corbin now. Most other teams in that situation already have pretty much been cleaned out of valuable trade chips already in the past.

As Corbin was introduced Cashman spoke on the moves. “We saw a rare opportunity to bring in a solid starter now, earlier then what you typically see with trading and we decided to pull the trigger and get the deal done. We wish Sonny Gray the best of luck in Philadelphia and are excited for the arrival of Patrick Corbin and what he can bring to our team.

Next up is a true test for this star studded Yankee offense as they head to DC for 3 where they’ll face some of the best pitching in the game. First is Kershaw Vs Strasburg, then Eduardo Rodriguez Vs Max Scherzer, and Patrick Corbin Vs Dallas Kuechel wraps it up.

New York Mets finished the 2019 regular season as back-to-back NL East Champions with a 112-50 record.

Jacob de Grom won the MVP and Cy Young Award, as he posted a 21-4 record with a 2.68 ERA and 288 K's.

The Phillies and Nationals secured the 2 wildcard spots, with the Cubs and Dodgers winning the Central and West.

In the AL, Boston, Cleveland and Houston won division titles, with the Yankees and Angels the Wildcard teams.

Phillies and the Yankees won the Wildcard games.

Game 1 of the NLDS at Citi Field saw the Mets hit four home runs en route to an 8-6 win. De Grom pitched 7 solid innings, but the bullpen struggled, giving up 4 runs in the final two innings.

For what its worth, the Sox will not lose the world series in LA. With the game three victory, if the Sox can't close out the series, they are now guaranteed to go back to Chicago.

Yoan Moncada led the White Sox in game three tallying three hits in four at bats with a homer and a double.

Stephen Gonsalves continued his strong post season collecting the win.

Game four will see the Sox attempt to get ever closer to a World Series victory .

Late inning heroics see White Sox one win away

The White Sox entered the top of the 8th down 6-4. Earlier in the game, Eloy Jiminez was brought in to play left field after Rhys Hoskins took a fly ball to the forehead. In this 8th inning, he led off. His at bat resulted in a 452 foot bomb to start the rallly.

Later in the inning, Milo Griffiths would come in to bat for the pitcher. Griffiths has played well on this post season in his limited at bats. He would continue this success with a line drive single to center that would score Conforto as he moved to second and Guerro Jr. moved to third.

The next batter, Dom Nunez would get his first hit of the game as he knocked a two run double into right field. Tim Anderson would knock him in to give the Sox five runs in the inning and the 9-6 lead. This lead would hold up to give the Sox the win which puts them one win away from successfully defending their 2022 World Series championship.

Game five will see Carlos Martinez attempt to close out the series for the White Sox.

                White Sox lead series 3-1

White Sox go back to back!

The Chicago White Sox are the 2023 World Seroes Champions! The win gives the White Sox consecutive championships after they swept the Phillies in the 2022 fall classic.

The Sox started the game off hot, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. The hot bats would continue in the second half of the game as they added on another six. The Dodgers had a strong offensive showing as well but they just couldn't keep up.

In a nod to Nate Jones, he was brought in to close out the 9th inning and World series victory. The 37 year old pitcher has spent his entire career with the team and is rumored to be considering retirement after this season.

The White Sox have some big names who will be free agents this offseason. Yoan Moncada and Rjys Hoskins being the biggest names.

Vladimir Guerro Jr. was named the World Series MVP after posting a .455 AVG/2 HR/4 RBI line.

Rhys Hoskins (.370 AVG/6 HR/8 RBI) was named the AL post season MVP

Cody Bellinger (.356/4 HR/14 RBI) was named the NL post season MVP.

The Mets avenged 2018's disappointing postseason showing, as they defeated the Phillies in 4 games in the NLDS.

Taking on the Cubs in the NLCS, New York grabbed a 1-0 series lead, with Jacob de Grom throwing a complete game three-hitter, as the Mets won 6-0.

Cardinals seeking left handed starting pitcher

For the 3rd straight offseason, or maybe the 4th, the Cardinals are seeking a left handed starting pitcher to fill out their rotation. Last year the Cardinals went with Jose Quintana, but he struggled and this offseason signed with the Blue Jays. The Cardinals before that tried Madison Bumgarner, but that was another failed marriage. This year, not sure who, if anyone, the Cardinals will try to fill that void.

The Cardinals had hoped that by now someone in their pipeline would've stepped up and taken this role, but unfortunately they have not. Drew Harrington was supposed to be the one called upon, but he was lost last year to the Blue Jays in the Rule 5 draft after the Cardinals failed to protect him.

The Cardinals do have trade pieces if they choose to go that route, but not sure who would be willing to part ways with anyone at this time. Jaime Garcia was talked about, but he has ended up in Houston. Jon Lester is a free agent, but the Cardinals aren't sure the 38 year old has the ability to start 25-30 games this year and pitch close to 180 innings. Lester was used primarily in the bullpen by the Cubs, making spot starts here and there.

The best internal option is Austin Gomber, but he's still most likely a year away at best for a full major league season.

Cardinals still have 3 months to figure something out, but the perception is that the pickings will be slim.

                            Some more off-season moves

The Baltimore Orioles traded Trey Mancini to St. Louis for Luke Weaver. Mancini becomes to 1st baseman for Cardinals while Weaver slots in to 3rd man on the Orioles rotation

Gio Gonzalez left on the FA market until the final week signing a 1 year - 10 million deal with the Dodgers.

Martin Malando signed a 1 year 5 million deal to platoon in Tampa Bay

The Marlins planned on being somewhat patient with SP Huey Kiser.

Then they got an offer from the Tigers that seemed too good to let pass.

The Tigers, in the midst of a heated three-team race in the AL Central, offered up SP Tommy Fernandez as part of a package involving Kiser. Fernandez is a very advanced 18-year-old pitcher, showing signs of growth as he acclimates to the high minors.

Meanwhile, the Tigers see a potential game changer in the race with Kiser on board. If Kiser does pitch to what scout thinks he has, that could very well force moves by the rest of the division in response. The Tigers have a good track record with former Marlins pitchers. Years ago, they traded for Charlie Beauleau, who was a major disappointment for the Marlins. All he's done since was be the Tigers ace.

The Tigers are hoping to get the same results from Kiser.

On the Marlins side, Loren Rasmussen returns to the rotation as 5th starter and the team called up Hiroki Fukumori, a 22-year-old out of Japan. Fukumori is a finesse arm with five pitches, the best among them being his cutter/runner combo that he uses to attack both sides of the plate.

For now, Fukumori will work out of the bullpen. The team will try to get him meaningful innings to see how he plays at the major league level and to give Fukumori experience against major league hitters.

The 3 game road trip to DC is behind us and somehow we took 2 out of 3 from the Nationals.

                                Game 1: Kershaw Vs Strasburg.
Strasburg was mowing us down through 5 keeping us hitless until the 6th and finished with 11 strikeouts. We broke through against him with his pitch count in the mid to high 80’s in the 7th with a Harper triple followed by Judge blasting a ball 428 feet to left. Kershaw looked human out there allowing 3 runs through 7, all 3 runs scored in the 1st and 2nd innings. Harper doubled home Andujar in the 8th to tie it at 3-3. With all the momentum in the Yankees favor Stanton hit one 454 feet to center off Tony Zych in the top of the 9th propelling the Yankees into the lead stunning the crowd at Nationals Park. Chapman would lock it down in the bottom half officially stealing the W away from the Nats in the late innings.

Game 2: Eduardo Rodriguez Vs Max Scherzer.
Nationals Win 8-2. Not much to say here. E-Rod got rocked through 5 giving up 6 runs and Scherzer was Scherzer.

Game 3: Patrick Corbin Vs Dallas Kuechel.
Making his Yankee debut on a rainy day Corbin was looking good through 3 though he did allow 2 runs, one on a poorly located slider to Juan Soto. We were able to get 2 off Kuechel thanks to 3B Todd Frazier firing one past 2B Daniel Murphy on what should’ve been a double play allowing a run to score and setting up a Torres sac fly to score another. After Corbin retires his first batter of the 4th, the officials would stop the game for a rain delay. The long 90 minute delay would force both starters from the game early.

Joe Ross came up clutch for us providing 3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to get us to the late innings. Both teams were held scoreless to the top of the 9th. Unleash the Kraken, a Sanchez 2 run bomb off who else but Tony Zych would give us a 4-2 lead to take into the bottom of the 9th. After Chapman recorded the first 2 outs, Todd Frazier lined a changeup into left field, Stanton runs towards CF.....and makes a DIVING CATCH! robbing the Nationals of a game extending base hit! Yankees win 4-2.

If Zych is ever sitting on the FA market with no interest so he could be had super cheap he’ll always have a place in Scranton after this series. GOAT.

Next up is a key 3 game series north of the border against the second place Blue Jays. Even though there’s already a 9 game gap it’s still an important series when only in late May.
