Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The 2021 White Sox have reached the All-Star Break at 60-35 with a 5.5 game lead over Minnesota.

We had 4 All-Stars this year in Rookie SP Omar Salgado, SP Carlos Carrasco, CP Nate Jones, and 1B Jose Abreu.

Salgado surprisingly still hasn't gotten a loss on the season at 13-0, with a 1.71 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 77 K's in 131.2 IP.

We had 6 picks in the June Draft:

    1. Elias Chavez, a 20 Year old 2B at 60 overall with a 77 potential
    2. Tom Keys, a 22 Year old SS at 54 overall with a 74 potential
    3. Julian Parra, a 23 year old 1B at 42 overall with a 77 potential
    4. Jackie Clarke, a 22 year old CF at 55 overall with a 69 potential
    5. Geraldo Villalobos, a 23 year old RF at 49 overall with a 66 potential
    6. Emmitt Durango, a 21 year old CP at 71 overall with a 79 overall.

I got to the June draft and the power went out. I hadn't saved since December 2 of the off season. Excuse me while I throw things.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Life has gotten in the way here the last several days, but here are some updates to my offseason:

Cardinals re-sign Mike Leake to one year deal worth $3M. Leake will compete for a spot in the rotation and/or bullpen. Leake was arguably the most consistent pitcher in our rotation last year.

Yankees signed 38 year old Jon Lester to a one deal for $3M. Lester is still rated an 82 at his age after having a pretty productive season with the Cubs pitching both in the rotation and the pen. Yanks will likely add him to their young rotation.

Marwin Gonzalez signed with the Twins

The Indians have both Corey and Kyle Seager.

There were other signings but right now they escape me...

The 2021 White Sox season is at the Trade deadline with the Sox at 70-40 with a 7.5 game lead over Minnesota.

Offensively the Sox finish July with the 5th ranked team in average (.266), 15th in Runs (436), 15th in Homers (114).

Pitching leads baseball in ERA (2.76), Shutouts (17), and Homers allowed (82) and second in Runs allowed (328)

We did call up catching prospect Luther Hightower to the Majors after the All-star break but he has only hit in the .220s since being called up.

We didn't make any deals at the deadline but there was a few trades around the league.

SP Dan Walter 21 Year old 60 overall B potential
CF Michael Gigliotti 25 year old 68 overall B potential

The Marlins (40-71) traded 3B Colin Moran

to the Mariners (59-53) for 2B Scooter Gennett.

The Astros also traded RF Josh Reddick

To the Rockies (57-55) for prospects

Astros also traded SP Dallas Keuchel

              to the Mariners for prospects:

C Robert Stacy 20 year old 73 overall B Potential
2B Marshall Garcia 24 year old 63 overall B potential

My Dodgers made the post season by a game.

Tied with the Giants for the final WC spot going into our final series, which was against them up at AT&T Park, it was a playoff style winner takes all three game series.

We lost the first game 2-1 in a hard fought 17 inning marathon, but won the next two 4-1 and 8-5 to clinch it. Both of the final two games were won due to patience and discipline at the plate and two helpful misfields by Hunter Pence in the final game. On both occasions we jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.

The wild card game is in Colorado against the Rockies.

Just took a little bit of a risk but worked out well.

During Spring Training, I released Aaron Judge, took my chances for 2 days of him being claimed on release waivers. I couldn't believe he wasn't claimed.

He then becomes a free agent, and I sign him to a 10 year, $25M deal. Yes, $25 million total, not per year.

That's $2.5M per year of Aaron Judge until he's 36.

Makes me wonder if it will be that easy to fleece a a player like that in 19 when we actually can extend contracts before the player is a free agent?

The Yankees have stretched the large gap in the East standings by another game after taking 2 out of 3 from Toronto on the road by scores of 7-5, 3-5, and 6-2. Then we headed to Chicago to play the White Sox in the final series of May starting out the series with an 8-2 Win. Probably my last update post of The Show 18 and probably won’t play anymore games on The Show 18. Can’t wait for next week.

With May a game away from being in the books and the draft right around the corner, now isn’t a bad time to take a look at the Yankee minor leagues.

LF Keenan Coppola age 22 B potential, 67 OVR, LH:
Coppola, is a speedy contact hitter that already possesses 77 vision and 66 discipline. He is already a good contact hitter vs right handed pitching at 70. He doesn’t quite have the elite speed of Buxton or Hamilton but is quite fast with 80 speed. He’s a good base stealer and is a pretty aggressive base runner. Concerns? His lefty contact at only 55 and his fielding. Dosen’t have a single fielding attribute over 55. The speed is there and so should the bat, but will his glove ever be? He’s off to a hot start at AA hitting 327 as the everyday LF.
                      MLB comp: Brett Gardner.

SS Derrick Cope age 21 B potential 72 OVR RH:
Cope is another contact hitting speedster, is even slightly faster and better at stealing, and even more of an aggressive base runner then Coppola. Already has 65 lefty contact and 70 plate vision. Main concerns? His righty contact at 56, his plate discipline at 48, and his glove. The arm is there but he needs significant work on his fielding and reaction.

                      2B Ollie Calhoun age 23 B potential 66 OVR:
Hitting wise he’s nearly there with contact a little over 65 and 57, 57 vision, 61 discipline, and 76 clutch. In the middle speed wise. His fielding progression will decide his fate. A decent arm but very poor fielding and reaction, both are slightly below 40.

Luke Voit: Not a prospect, but he’s lighting it up at AAA hitting 347 with 10 HR’s. He might be used as a trade chip if he keeps it up. He could be kept though as insurance in case Jose Abreu departs after the season as his contract will expire. Yankees are expected to discuss a potential extension with Abreu before the trade deadline so Voit’s future may depend on those talks.

RF Billy McKinney age 25 B potential LH, 72 OVR:
Last but far from least, McKinney, might be the most valuable Yankee prospect.
He doesn’t have much left to prove at AAA, hitting 320 with 6 HR’s and 27 RBI’s. Put solid numbers at AAA last year and is doing it again so far. He’s MLB ready at this point but us unlikely to get a chance in NY this season with Eaton, Harper, Judge, and Stanton eating up most of the OF AB’s. However, Eaton’s deal does expire after this season. Will he be a star? Probably not. But he can likely be a quality regular at the MLB level? He’d be ready to go for an acquiring team from day 1.

                      Stories From Around The League:

                      Mike Trout....A Trade Candidate?!
Trout is in his final season of team control and it isn’t looking good early on for LA. Still over a month to right the ship before considering it but LA is 8.5 games out of the West and 10 out of the WC. If it continues this way dealing Trout is something they would have to consider. They will surely try to extend him but if they can’t get a contract in place by mid to late July you’d have to think he’d be available.

The Angels have become relevant again over the last 2 years reaching the ALCS in 2018 before getting swept by the eventual champion Yankees and falling one game short of a championship in 2019 to the Cubs. A leap backwards to what they’ve been for most of his career could push him out the door anyway. One things for sure, he’s gonna get paid. His 2019 season was insane, 362 AVG, 58 HR’s, 144 RBI’s, and 25 SB. 14.5 WAR season.

I don't think any other teams will claim a player in spring training, at least in my experience they haven't.

The Yankees continue to make a strong push to return to the playoffs as they signed Khris Davis to a one year deal worth $5M I think it was.

Yankees have missed the playoffs in each of the last 6 seasons.

The Cubs fought their way to the top of the NL central despite Kris Bryant missing 2 months. A battle with the Brewers for first place all season up until Kris Bryant returned after the All Star break and the Cubs pulled away. Kyle Schwarber led the Cubs with 40 HR's and 95 rbi. Jon Lester was 20-3 and finished 2nd in the Cy Young race to Aaron Nola of the Phillies. The Cubs did make a trade at the deadline sending Addison Russell, and two B pot prospects to the Rangers for Jurikson Profar, Delino DeShields Jr. and a minor league reliever. Both new players struggled at the plate especially in the playoffs.

Speaking of Playoffs, the Cubs had home field throughout the NL playoffs and faced the Phillies after they had knocked out the Mets in the wild card game. The Cubs took the series 3-1 and went on to face the Nationals in the Championship series. Max Scherzer was too much for the Cubs in game one, as the Nats went on to win 2-0 and Mad Max only allowed 2 hits in the complete game. Scherzer would put the nail in the Cubs coffin in game 6 as he once again dominated them and led the Nationals to the World Series!

It would be the Nationals vs the Angels in the 2018 WS with the Angels winning it all 4-2!

My Dodgers won the Wild Card game in Colorado, but lost the opening game of the NLDS in Washington. The inside-the-park homerun we allowed wasn't ideal

                              Onwards to game 2.

The 2021 White Sox are the Al Central Division Champs going 102-60, beating out Minnesota by 7 games.

Oakland won the AL West, Boston in the East, while Minnesota and Baltimore are the Wild Cards

Philadelphia, Chicago and Colorado are the NL Division Champs with St Louis and Atlanta being the Wild Cards.

                                Spoiler

Our notable September call ups were, SP Kevin Dibiase and LF Richie Cortez

Dibiase made 2 starts going 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA with 4 K's in 14 innings, he should be, if all goes as planned, the teams #5 starter next season

Cortez only played in 4 games going 4 for 14 (.286). He will probably need some more seasoning though in AAA next season.

Our Midseason call up C Luther Hightower struggled at the plate only going 20 for 91 (.220) in 2 stints in MLB.

and of course SP Omar Salgado who dominated in his rookie season going 20-2 with a 1.86 ERA, 133 K's, 1.16 WHIP in 217.1 innings.

Well off to the postseason to see if we can finally break through and win that World Series, before we move into MLB 19. We begin against Oakland in the ALDS
