Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Okay, mind you, it's 2020 in my Franchise. I always sim ahead two years, so that I can have my prospects ready to contribute, or at least be a year away.

I created Mark Appel, and decided to resurrect the former No.1 overall picks career in Atlanta. I created some imaginary story line in my imagination that the Braves hired Stanford's HC to be their pitching coach, and helped him get control of his stuff, and restore his confidence. He dominated AAA in 2019, and is ready to be the No.2 in Atlanta.

The Rangers waived Cole Hamels, so I figured he would be a solid No.3 until a few of my other pitching prospects were ready in 2021. Hamels will be 37 and a FA, so this is a one year rental.

Made some deals to acquire Torress, Schwarber, and Profar. Signed Eaton and Cole in free agency.

And my farm system is LOADED with Top 50 prospects, with three of them being in the Top 10 overall.

This is my 2020 Atlanta Braves lineup and rotation.

    1. Adam Eaton (CF)
    2. Ozzie Albies (2B)
    3. Dansby Swanson (3B)
    4. Ronald Acuna Jr (RF)
    5. Kyle Schwarzer (C)
    6. Gleyber Torres (SS)
    7. Jurickson Profar (LF)
    8. Greg Bird (1B)
    9. Pitcher

    Rotation
    1. Gerrit Cole
    2. Mark Appel
    3. Cole Hamels
    4. Sean Newcomb
    5. Kyle Wright

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well here is my Franchise story. I continued mine from 17. this is actually year 2019 in my franchise. In The Show 17 My Indians won the Central Division both in 17 and in 18. I lost in the Divisional round to the Angels in 17 and lost in 7 games to Houston in the ALCS. Started my 2019 year all on The Show 18. Now due to a really bad offence in 2018 I made some trades so my lineup is a little different than the current Indians.

      Gregor Blanco CF
      Michael Brantley LF
      Wes Meyers 1B
Manny Machado 3b picked up as free agent before transferring to the Show 18
Maedo RF Rookie/ currently he is in line to Win Rookie of the Year
      Edwin Encarnacion DH
      Yan Gomes/Roberto Perez C
Francisco Lindor SS for some reason his has struggled for all of 2018 season and so far this season

So 2019 I am hitting better that in 2018 but my pitching is down a bit but in the 2018 season I had a team ERA under 3.00 and was best in the Majors. I am GM and let CPU play CPU is all I do and I love doing it this way. I have 3 kids and work a lot on my laptop so it works for me. I am loving the Show 2018!!! It's so good! I am currently in the Middle of June. I am 1st in the division record of 35 and 28. Trying to think ahead and see what I want to do for the Trade Deadline. I hate to get rid of Lindor but not sure why he struggles so bad! I going to probably give him one more year but he is pissing me off. LOL! It's cool to see the offseason signings. Like Bryce Harper went to the White Sox and Bumgardner went to the Royals. But hopefully this is my year to make it to the World Series and maybe win it all!!!! Would love to hear more of all your guys franchise progress as well!

During Spring Training, I sent Votto (17 mil) to the Yankees for David Robertson (8 mil), Justus Sheffield, and Clarke Schmidt. We dumped a ton of salary and got a future ace. Yankees got the 1B they needed. The infield looks good right now. I have Senzel at 3B and moved Suarez to first.

I'm about to play game #2 against the Nats. I lost the opener 10-7 in 12 innings.

Just had a traumatic April 12, 2018 in my Cubs franchise...Yu Darvish fractured his wrist, and is going to be out 2-3 months. Three other minor league players got injured the same day - two with injuries that will sideline them for multiple months.

Starting to look a lot more like they team I thought we would be. Last month and a half has not been kind. 14-24 since June 1st. We are now 17 games under .500 at 39-56. 4th in the division ahead of the White Sox by 5 games. After going 7-3 to end May we started off June going 3-12. We were able to finish the month 6-4 but everything went south again in the first half of July going 5-8. The division leaders at the break are the Red Sox, Indians and Astros in the AL. Nationals, Cubs and Dodgers in the NL. Nationals have the best record at 64-32. Giants the worst at 34-64.

                  Hitting

The offense did technically improve since the last update. We are now hitting .247/.313/.380. Each of those is 24th in the majors. We are 22nd in doubles, 10th in triples and 23rd in HR. Still dead last in SB. 2nd worst is the marlins with 15 more than us. Still not walking much. 5th worst in the majors.

Cheslor Cuthbert has been pretty impressive. He leads the team in AVG (.292) and OBP (.371). He is also tied with Moose for the highest WAR with 2. Moose leads the team in HR with 19 and and OPS at .822. Jorge Soler seems to be getting on the right track recently. Over his last 31 games he is hitting .282/338/.521. And even better in his last 14 games hitting .333/.389/.519. He is 3rd on the team with 14 HR and has been surprisingly good in the field with just 1 error in 650 innings. Salvy, Gordon and Jay continue to struggle. They have combined to hit .219/.295/.324. Perez has at least continued to take walks. Already has a career high of 26 in just 49 games.

                  Team Hitting Stats
                  Spoiler

                  Pitching

ERA 4.70. Highest in the majors. HR allowed. 117. Highest in the majors. Our 658 strikeouts are the 6th worst. Yeah we suck.

Jesse Hahn came off the DL in mid June and has been good so far. 3.61 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP. Jason Hammel has the highest WAR among our pitchers. 4.49 ERA but his FIP is more than half a run lower at 3.79. Duffy hasnt the lowest ERA of the starters at 3.88 As well as the most strikeouts with 99.

Kelvin Herrera is still the best pitcher out in the pen. Has 22 saves in 24 chances. 3.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Blaine Boyer shouldnt even be on the team anymore. Seems like every time he comes in he gives up a lead. 4.54 ERA in 35.2 IP. Everyone else in the pen has an ERA between 3.5 and 4. So it could be worse.

                  Team Pitching Stats
                  Spoiler

On June 22nd we optioned Seth Maness back to AAA. He had a in innings pitched. We called up Andres Machado who had a in innings pitched. Paulo Orlando was released when Jorge Bonifacio came off the DL. Tim Hill went on the 10 day DL on July 3rd. Burch Smith was recalled from AAA to replace him. Smith was sent back down when Hill came off the DL.

                  Notable Minor Leaguers

Ryan O'Hearn is starting to heat up down in AAA. He is now hitting .280/.362/.439 with 11 HR. Aside from him the other prospects might as well not even be trying. Hunter Dozier is hitting .218 with a .276 OBP. Bubba Starling is hitting .202 with a .262 OBP. And Raul Mondesi is currently on the DL with a broken shin. He was hitting .199 with a .249 OBP. Nolan Watson has 3.56 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 60 IP. Foster Griffin got called up when Kyle Lohse was released. It hasnt gone so well for him. 5.88 ERA in 26 IP.

Meibrys Viloria leads the prospects down in AA. May end up being our top prospect to stat next year. Hitting .280/.355/.379 with 6 HR and just 1 error in 562 innings behind the plate. Our current top prospect Khalil Lee is hitting .258/.336/.406 in 128 AB.

                  2018 Draft

                  Spoiler

Angel Diaz is obviously the best pick for us. Low to mid 90's Running Fastball with a Splitter and Change. Very good at limiting contact and making batters swing and miss. But when they do make contact it tends to go pretty far. Can also be prone to some walks. Shouldnt need anymore than a year or 2 in the minors.

Favorite pick may be Myles Evans. I can see a few All Star games in his future. Great glove in RF with some speed to play CF if we need him to. Not a ton of power but should hit around 20 HR.

                  Full 1st Round
                  Spoiler

So the season has clearly gone to ****. It was expected though. With 2 weeks left before the trade deadline we will be looking to see if anyone is interested in Moose, Duda and Herrera. Salvy and Duffy are off limits. And may potentially look to move Whit but not sure yet.

I was trying to decide how many games to play and how many to sim in my franchise, and I got the dumb idea to make a spinning wheel to decide. Then I started adding more options... and then more. Anyway, here it is if anyone wants to use it.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
