Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Has anyone noticed during Franchise play, an issue with CPU Trading? Set up franchise and selected CPU Trading to OFF. So no CPU trades can occur unless initiated by the User.
After about 10 games, noticed the CPU is making trades. I use a modified Roster (OSFM version 1.5) so rosters are MLB accurate. I did notice though, that I tested a franchise with the default roster and the CPU Trading option set to OFF works. No CPU trades. Seems to be a problem with using a modified roster.
In the past, using modified rosters and the CPU Trading option set to OFF, has worked fine.

Playing a game today in manage mode the game is tied 2-2, runners at 2nd and 3rd, 2 out LHP on the mound. CPU walks Josh Bell to get the lefty vs lefty matchup vs Corey Dickerson. Problem is Dickerson is leading the league in RBI. Grand slam LOL.

        Start of Season - 2019

Well I screwed up and accidentally advanced to the regular season after 2 ST games. So I didnt get a chance to see who would win some position battles. Sire wish I had saved after the off season. But oh well. Here are some moves teams made during the off season.

        Spoiler

We didnt make to many moves. Forgot to change Salvador Perez's contract before the season so we had to resign him. He got a 3 year deal worth 84 million. Kinda sucks since he is actually signed through 2021 for just 36 million. But didnt want to lose him so we did what we had to do. Also brought back Kelvin Herrera. 4 year deal worth 21.5 million. Only move we made in FA was signing A.J. Cole after the Nats let him walk. So here is how we start the 2019 season.

        Spoiler

We will start out with a 6 man rotation. Whoever does the best between Kennedy and Cole through the 1st month will win the 5th spot and the loser will move to the pen as a long reliever.

        Top Prospects
        Spoiler

We start the season with a 3 game road trip to against the Blue Jays. Before heading to Milwaukee for 2 games. Our home opener is on April 4th against the A's. Thats the start of a 12 game home stand. 15 of our 29 games before May are against teams with a record over .500 last year. 17 of 29 are at home. You would like to at least be .500 with that. But this team is gonna struggle. I expect us to be about the same as we were last year. Maybe a bit worse. Unless something goes horribly wrong I think we can be ready to compete again by 2022. A lot can change between now and then though.

          For me:

A to AA is determined by overall because that is literally all I have to go off of.

AA to AAA is determined by performance over an extended period of time. In the first season of the franchise, that time is usually a month or two. After that season they have to perform well over a season (unless they are absolutely destroying people down there).

AAA to MLB is determined by performance and personal experience. For instance, in my Rays franchise I have a few guys I am looking at possibly moving up (Willy Adames, Justin Williams, and Jake Bauers). After two months, all three of them are playing very well in sims. So my next step was to start quick managing games to see if they perform well still (since that is what I do the most in franchise).

After quick managing about 12 games, Willy Adames was not performing well so I stopped looking to move him up for the time being. Williams and Bauers continued to play extremely well.

The next step was to actually play some games with them to see if they seemed better than the other people on the field. So I did a player lock for about 6 games (alternating between them every other game). After those 6 games Williams was not hitting well, but Bauers was tagging the ball on the barrel all the time.

So ultimately I decided to move Bauers up. He passed my tests. Plus, C.J. Cron was doing terrible. That made my decision easier.

So, I'm actually having a lot of fun using the system I decided to use (I don't want to say came up with because I think there's probably someone else who thought of it first but I didn't "steal" the person's idea.) I use 30 team control and all but 2 teams are auto for a lot of things other than the few areas that are wonky with cpu control. Then I manage the other 2. I play out all of the Cubs games in full, and for the Sox games, I use player control. So far about a MLB week in I player control Giolito, Lopez, and Fulmer and then move down the lineup on days where Shields and Gonzalez pitch. (So for the first game with Shields I batted with Moncada, the game with Gonzalez on the mound I used Avisail Garcia, etc)

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We finished the month of April with a 13-9 record and we are currently 2 games behind the Brewers.

              NL Central Standings

              Brewers 14-6 -
              Cardinals 13-9 2 GB
              Cubs 10-10 4 GB
              Reds 10-10 4 GB
              Pirates 9-12 5.5 GB

A few concerns through the first month. Tommy Pham and Josh Thole aren't giving us anything off the bench. I'm thinking about sending Pham down in favor of Jeremy Hazelbaker who is tearing it up in Memphis. As for Thole, I'm also thinking about sending him down, or trading him, in favor of Francisco Pena who is doing great things in Memphis as well. If traded, the Red Sox are interested in Thole.

Pitching wise, outside of Kevin Siegrist really struggling (he's already in Memphis in favor of Sam Freeman) our pitching staff has been pretty good at the major league level. Minor leagues its been a bit rough, but we'll give those guys more of a leash to work things out.

Month of May is my moving month, where I figure out who is having a season that can help us win at the major league level, who needs more work in the minors, and who just isn't going to fit in our organization so I use the month to explore trade opportunities.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Well, I was really eager to play my first home game at Coors, considering I had only hit a couple HR after my first 7 games. Just beat Atlanta 17-4 and hit 9 HRs!! It was crazy, Arenado had 3, Blackmon hit 2, Parra (who is randomly hitting over .500 through 8 games) had one and was a triple away from the cycle. My dynamic difficulty increased a level and a half after that game.

So far I’m really enjoying the Rockies. I do think I need to add an ace to the pitching staff, who is someone that is attainable?

Crazy sounding game, I had a 17 run game in my last game of my White Sox opening series against the Royals.

Can't really answer your question either cause I'm not really realistic with my trades I just find someone on the block and use the trade finder.

Side note, I tried using the Rockies and liked their team but man their second starter...Anderson I think...his pitching motion was just so slow I couldn't handle it

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well my first two series are over and it has not been a good start for my Twins. 1-4 so far, after being swept in a quick two-game series in Pittsburgh, who are now 5-0 to start the year. My hitting, pitching and defense have not been good. Playing with modified Padoi's Legend sliders. I moved the pitch speed up to 10 because I like the challenge. I have been getting blown away though, striking out 10+ times in each game so far.

                        Hitting
Dozier and Morrison are the only two really doing anything with the bat so far, both hitting over .300. Dozier has our only 2 homeruns as well. Sano is 2-21 with 13 strikeouts, OUCH!! Rosario and Castro are still hitless. We are hitting an awful .172, which is dead last in the MLB. Our 61 strikeouts is also dead last in the Majors.

                        Pitching
My starters have been okay, except for Gibson. He got rocked in his only start, and is set to start our home opener next, hopefully the goes better. My bullpen has been horrible though. Rodney, Rogers and Pressly are the only ones with a 0.00 ERA, and all the others except for Reed, have given up multiple runs. My team ERA is 26th in the Majors at 5.79. Staff is also dead last with only 24 strikeouts.

                        Defense
We have committed 4 errors in the first 5 games, 3 of those came in the last game against the Pirates allowing 4 unearned runs in a 7-4 loss. So it pretty much cost us the game.

Overall, we have some work to do. My hitting has to come around and my bullpen needs to clean up. I need to stay around the .500 mark until I get Santana back in May and then Polanco in late June. I have a lot of money coming off the books after the year (using real contracts). Not sure what I will do with Mauer and Dozier, don't think I can sign both. Hoping that Mauer will take a huge pay cut, and then I offer some of that money to Dozier Also, need to get Buxton signed long-term, and possibly Sano but not so sure about him.

Rosters and results in my signature.

61-38 at the Break with the Padres. I don't know whats happening but I'm just winning, even when simming haha. Enter the break on an 8 game winning streak.

I called up Tatis before the ASB as I can't do anything with Galvis and he's hitting .467. Also have Michel Baez up due to injuries. Rookie Joey Lucchesi is 7-0 going into the break after a call up. The team is just clicking on all cylinders right now.

Hosmer and Myers are all my All Star players and have Hand in as a pitcher.

                              Hand: 2-1, 3.08 ERA 26 saves
                              Hosmer: .317, 17 HR, 65 RBI
                              Myers: .300, 16 HR, 60 RBI

WALK OFF BABY!!! Finally got the offense going a little bit. Castro gets his first hit of the year, a solo walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 10th on a 3-1 fastball. He came in for Garver after I pinch-ran for him in the 8th. Bullpen woes continued though after Gibson went 6.1 innings giving up just 2 runs. Reed blew the lead in the 8th. We scored one in the bottom of the 8th to tie it back up at 4-4. Dozier continued his hot start getting a homerun, double and 2 RBI. Sano broke out with 2 hits as well. Rosario broke out of his slump with his first hit being an RBI single in the 3rd. Paxton struck me out 7 times in 5 innings, but I only struck out 9 times in the game. So at least I was putting the ball in play more. Each team committed 2 errors, so my defense is still not helping me out. The Mariners did hit into 4 double plays which helped a LITTLE bit!!
