Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

After a putrid first season with the Marlins, we own the #1 pick and we have a dilemma on our hands. We are looking at two prospects with the pick. I believe both players will be all stars in the future. One player is a 20 year old right hand 3b who can play in the outfield. He projects to have 70 hit and power on both sides of the plate with good fielding....he shouldn't need more than a year in the minors and the other is a 18 year old left hand pitcher. He has 80 velocity and 75 stamina right now with a projection of 65 k/9 and control. His pitches are a 4sfb, slider, curveball, and 2sfb.

MLB ETA for the 3B is 2019
MLB ETA for the SP is 2021

Two great prospects. This is only 1 year into the rebuild so I'm looking for the best prospects now. Its hard to go away from the elite bat, but I think we have a Noah Syndergaard waiting on the board...

        What do you guys think?

I think the 3B would be a good option to build around. I feel pitching prospects are easier to acquire through trades and in the draft.

The Rockies come back to win the finale of the four game series @ San Diego to split the series.

Clayton Richard vs Tyler Anderson did not disappoint. Richard cruised through 6 innings until I finnally was able to muster up some offense in the 7th. Still he only allowed two runs on 5 hits with only 3 walks and a measley 1 strikeout.

I was down 2-0 all game until I was able to put three on the board in the 7th. Both bullpens pitched well and the game ended final, 3-2 Rockies to split the 4 game series.

Only the second loss for the Padres in the early season, while we go over .500 (4-3) for the first time all season.

Want to again say I am playing with BOTH the Indians and the Rockies in a franchise, and will be playing one game per series for each team.

Next series for the Indians is their home opening series vs the Royals (3-3). The Rockies also begin their home opening series vs the Braves (0-6). Random number generator app chose game #2 to be played in both series.

Here are the box scores and pitching stats for the Rockies game just played:

I’ve never really gotten too in depth with the franchise mode and have a question.

Does anyone have tips on training? Even my hot, younger players are constantly losing attribute points.

Side note: playing on legend difficulty, and 14-9 with the Rockies. My games are streamed on my twitch channel (MileHighMadness11) if anyone is interested in checking it out

I was considering of starting a franchise with an AL team for once, preferably a young and upcoming team rather than established one (good farm system is a plus). I was considering Minnesota but definitely open to suggestions! Anyone started one with the Twins on here?

                  All Star Break - 2019

We are now 16 games under .500. 19-21 since the beginning of May. And 8-6 so far in July. We are still 3rd in the division. 10 games back of the Indians. Tigers and White Sox are the only teams worse than us in the Majors. Red Soz have the best record at 63-33. White Sox the worst at 32-63.

                  Standings
                  Spoiler

Offense has gotten things together a bit as the season has gone on. We are hitting .258/.323/.394 (12th, 19th and 21st). We are 18th with 102 HR. Tied for 19th with 16 triples. Still dead last with 114 doubles. 19th in walks with 310. And up to 6th in Strikeouts with 703.

                  Spoiler

Top 3 guys are still complete surprises. Last year O'Hearn hit .184/.295/.279 with 4 HR in 190 AB. Bonifacio must be back on the good stuff. He had 5 HR in 256 AB last season. And Alex Gordon has his highest OPS since 2012. Not to mention Salvy who still has his highest AVG and OBP since 2013. Whit Merrifield tore his Calf on June 27th. Should be back by September. Mondesi sprained his MCL on July 7th. Should be back within the next week. Gonna send Hunter Dozier down the AAA. Gonna let him finish out the season down there and then get him some more play time up here come September.

Pitching has improved a very tiny amount. We are no 27th in ERA at 4.37. Still have no complete games and we are 28th in shutouts with 3. Tied for 12th in HR allowed with 98. 11th in Walkswith 318 and 21st in Strikeouts with 729

                  Spoiler

Duffy has limited his walks recently and has been great because of it. Has his lowest BB/9 since 2016. Nate Karns has the highest WAR out of all our pitchers. ERA is somehow a run higher than last year even though he has upped his K/9 by almost 1.5. And has dropped his BB/9 and HR/9. FIP is good at 3.01. Gave Nolan Watson 5 starts and it did not go well. So Foster Griffin came up to replace him and was dominate in his first start. 7 IP. Gave up 1 run while striking out 13. Has given up 5 runs in 2 starts since then. If he keeps pitching like this we will probably cut Ian Kennedy when it's time for Junis to come back.

                  Prospects
                  Spoiler

                  Draft
                  Spoiler

3 out of 7 isnt bad. Thats how many guys I think have a future here. Probably wont even sign our 2nd pick Jimmie Lincoln. Has good potential but only a 46 OVR and already 22.

Tommy Nielsen will probably end up at DH but can play the corner Of spots. Just not well. Great power potential.

Much like Tommy Nielsen Jaime Nieves has great power potential with terrible defense. Nielsen just has a much higher ceiling. Hoping our coaches can help Nieves learn a bit and raise his potential. If not he is probably a career minor leaguer.

Todd Vedder might not have the arm to stick at SS but could very good at 2B. Would need to get a lot better with the bat to be more than a backup though.

Geraldo Aybar has a Fastball in the mid to upper 90s to go along with a slider cutter and change. Has above AVG movement on his pitches but cant always control where it ends up. Probably nothing better than a #5 starter.

Shelby Stone could start in the majors now and look like a vet. Above AVG bat, speed and defense. His biggest and basically only weakness is power. He may no get much better. But with his ability to play SS, 2B and 3B. And play all of them exceptionally well. At worst he should end up as a utility guy.

Ken Whitley could end up being one of the best power guys in the league. If he can make enough contact. Might be one of those guys that hits .225 with 40+ HR and 150+ SO.

                  1st round
                  Spoiler

Only 66 games left in the season. 14 of our first 20 games after the break are on the road. All 20 are against teams well under .500. Feel like we will end up playing our way out of a top 5 pick next year. But we are pretty set with the prospects we have so getting them experience is most important. The guys in AA will stay there for the rest of the year as they will be heading towards the playoffs. Gonna try and get them the same kind of experience guys like Moose and Hoz got. Winning championships together in the minors and building chemistry along the way.

Per usual, I always end up just going with my favorite team the Reds (as painful as that is to watch in real life). I think I am going to start the youth movement now. I hope to get Duvall moved out so I can call up Trammell. Winker is going to start in RF and Senzel is going to get called up to play 2B most likely (played there in spring).

Wow first game was one of the most intense games I've played this year!

Scherzer vs Luis Castillo. Scherzer walked Hamilton to lead the game off but had a no hitter going in to the 7th (Scooter Gennett hit a line drive for a single). Castillo was just as good, allowing only 2 hits and 2 BB (Washington got a runner to third twice, held him there both times). Going to the bottom of the 8th it was 0-0, 1 out. Pinch hit with Phil Gosselin and he gets a single up the middle. Then after Hamilton flied out, Jesse Winker gets walked. I had pinch ran for Gosselin with Phil Ervin, so runners on first and second with 2 outs and Votto at the plate. Votto does what he usually does and gets an opposite field single to give me the 1-0 lead. Eugenio Suarez then crushes a deep drive for a triple that scores two more. Iglesias comes into the 9th and allows one single, so of course the last batter of the game was Bryce Harper. Punches him out with a high fastball, game over. Definitely a fun game but I doubt i get much pitching like that going forward

I wish, I'm getting absolutely wrecked in my Rangers franchise at the moment. I'm currently 4-11. Just got swept by the Jays and had an 8-1 lead in the final game that me and the bullpen blew to lose 10-9. Lost 2 out of 3 to the Angels in the next series and have just lost 2 in a row to the Astros.

I can't hold onto a lead with my bullpen and they can't keep me in a game when I fight back to keep it close. And I can't buy a hit with Roughned Odor, hitting .073 through 15 games. Not too far off where the Ranger are in the real world though.

I'm using dynamic difficulty and go up and down between All-Star and HOF. I may need to set it on All-Star and leave it.

I'm using dynamic difficulty and go up and down between All-Star and HOF.

Grab a couple of arms off of the FA market on one year deals. If one works out you could sign longer term!
