Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I have an interesting finish of the season coming in my Mets franchise. With 12 games to go I have a 1 game lead in the last WC spot. I spent most of the season leading my division but have gone into a tailspin including a 12 game losing streak as the Nationals have breezed past me. I actually lost the WC lead too but have won 6 out of the last 7 to retake it.

Trying my hand at running a 30 team franchise while actually playing with the San Deigo Padres. I've seen way too many ridiculous trades that make no sense for the teams making those trades so with the new OSFM roster that just came out I decided now was a good time to try 30 team. Very interesting so far. I set up line ups and made the necessary corrections to the 40 man (and 25 man) for all teams but everything else is pretty much on auto for the CPU teams. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

Drafted Aldolfo Sanchez in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft and he just raked through the minors. Been called up for about 10 games now and he’s hitting .400 with 1 HR and 12 RBI

            End of Season - 2021

Well we finished the season strong going 40-27 after the AS break. 85-77 overall. 7 games back of the Indians for 1st and 3 games back of the Astros in the WC. The Astros did their best to give us the spot but we came up short. We went 9-2 over the last 11 while the Astros went 2-9.

            Standings
            Spoiler

The offense took a big step forward this year. We hit .261/.330/.416. Compared to .248/.323/.381 last year. We hit 267 Doubles. 16th in the majors and 3 more than last year. We were 9th with 32 Triples. 1 More than last year. And the biggest change was our 185 HR. 44 more than last year and 12th in the Majors. We added a few more SB as well. 19th overall with 102. Got caught a bit more though. 15th with a 65% success rate. 555 walks put us at 17th. And we were 3rd in strikeouts with 1196.

            Stats
            Spoiler

The pitching ended up being our downfall. It got better the last few months. Especially after the 2 trades we made to get relievers. We were 22nd in ERA at 4.22 Upslightly from 4.14 last season. We were tied for 2nd worst in shutouts with 7. We allowed 201 HR. 24th in the majors. We were 4th best in Walks allowed with 497. And 22nd in strikeouts with 1252.

            Stats
            Spoiler

Goal before the season was to be .500. Goal for next year is to get a WC spot. We have quite a few guys available for free agency. Salvador Perez, Jesse Hahn, Jorge Soler, Danny Duffy and Cheslor Cuthbert are all eligible. Whit Merrifield is as well but he has pretty much been replaced at this point. We have plenty of money to spend so all could be back. But we may look around at some other FA to see if we can improve anywhere.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Ricky Parris finally had a good start for the Marlins, but he still took the loss as the Marlins bats finally got cooled off...for a game at least. The team lost 3-1, mustering only a handful of hits.

The Marlins managed just 5 hits. Parris gave up 2 runs, but both were on home runs so there's still some issues that need to be fixed. All three of the runs the Marlins allowed came via the long ball.

Damien Boeve took the hill the next game to start a new series against the struggling Braves.

He didn't have his best stuff by any means. He gave up four walks and for a while had no strike outs. But he battled through six innings with allowing just one run, an RBI double in the 5th. He also had seven strike outs and allowed three hits, with two of those coming in the first inning.

"Not my best work but they were trying to wait me out. That's how the got the walks, but I wasn't backing down. Eventually, they wore down before I did, " Boeve commented.

The Marlins ace is definitely in the waning portion of his career, but so far, he's been as strong as ever. He's currently 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA. He's struck out 31 batters in 26 innings of work, allowing a home run, seven walks, and 18 hits in the process.

The bats re-awakened with seven runs on nine hits. The first five of those runs scored on just four hits, one of them being Bo Winter's 5th HR of the season.

"Still getting it done. I think I'm still the best outfielder in baseball, " Winter commented.

There's been some concern about Winter slowing down as well, but he's batting .422 with 4 doubles, the 5 home runs, and a 1.219 OPS to start the year.

The Marlins are 12-4 in early action, two games in front of the Nationals.

Hoz, that might be the first winning or atleast best season I've seen you have with the Royals congrats! You say you have plenty of money to spend, how do you calculate that? I just finished my first off season in this years game and although I had the available funds in the bank (I used my stubs to by about 50 mil in bank money) I couldn't afford big name guys.... oh side note your boy Bubba retired after 2018 I cant remember if it was injury or what but he was a free agent.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'm keeping up with the real-life schedule right now kinda. I just finished a great road trip in may sweeping the Yankees, Red Sox and Jays. so my win streak is at 10 games. I also have a team record of 33-14 holding the top spot in the AL West.

The Dodgers have the closest record to mine which is 35-12. they are of course crushing the NL West. The cubs are atop the NL Central with a record of 33-13. Baltimore is leading the AL East with a record of 31-17.

I finally achieved my greatest moment by not striking out a single time at bat. then the game after I did that I came within five outs of a throwing a perfect game. that was heart breaking.

I barely even went a played 17 but this year I am loving this game like I did with 15 and 15.

all I have to say is that there is ONE team that I do not want to face if I make the postseason and that is the Orioles. they schooled me in our only match up this year.

time to see if I can continue this run I am on right now. but this will be at home. my next three series at home go like this... Seattle. Arizona, ad Tampa Bay.

We did make a move in firing our hitting coach and bringing in someone new. Signed the new hitting coach to a one year deal like the rest of the staff. Dead last in hitting with this lineup is intolerable. See what the new guy can do.

If we can somehow sweep the Reds it would get us back into the race as we near the month of July.

Other good news is that Stephen Piscotty and Carlos Martinez have returned from the DL. Carlos Martinez will actually start the series in Cincinnati.
Nice decision to fired the hitting coach. Maybe the hitting coach will give your position players a ratings boost

I'm hoping something changes and for the good.

Haven't gotten a chance to play a game with new hitting coach yet. Hopefully tonight after work.

Series in the Mile High took on the Rockies.

Game 1: Homeruns were flying out of the park. Unfortunately I only hit two HRs. Teheran started off good through 4IP, but I started missing high in the zone. Arenado a solo blast. Story & Desmond went back to back. Lost 9-6

Game 2: Dialed up some pitching duels. Rockies SP Bettis pitched 7IP, BB, 5H,ER & 6K. Bravea SP McCarthy held his own: 6IP, 10H, 2ER, BB & 8K. Won 3-2

Game 3: Was another pitcher's duel @Coors Field. Folty went 6IP strong, 2ER, 2BB, 7H & 7K. Arrenado got me for a deep solo shot in 1st AB & I gave him the 4 finger treatment the rest of the day.
Rockies SP Sanzetela tried to keep up, but he could only go 5IP, 5H, 2ER, BB, 2K. I ran his pitch count up, so that led to early exit. Plus they had a scoring opportunity in the Bttm of 5th. The ball game wss tied 2-2, so they dialed up a PH. I say that was smart by the CPU. My LRP Whitley gave up the 2 runs which led to the lost. 4-2

                          Note:

Hot hitters are 2B Albies batting over .300. 1B Fab 5 Freddie avg.340 2HR. C Flowers with a 9 game hitting streak. Batting near .500. I just rake wirh this guy. 2B are coming easy because opposing team's doesn't respect his power. He his 3HR so far. SS Simmons went 9 for 11 in the series. Taking his avg from.125 to
.285 batting in the 5th hole in the lineup. RF Heyward struggled in the series batting avg went from .320 to .216. The good thing he's making contact just not finding the open grass.

Bullpen has been outstanding! Moylan, Sam Freeman & Vizzy. ERA's are under 0.00. I have called on them 4 times so far. Set up & closer means a win.

My record is 4-5. Next series is against the 4-5 Nationals in D.C.

Game 1: Homeruns were flying out of the park. Unfortunately I only hir two HRs.

I have Sam Freeman in my bullpen in my carryover franchise. Love that guy. Effective against both lefties and righties. If his fastball and splitter are both on, he's lights out!
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

He's been a pleasant surprise. First time using him. I did a carryover from 2016 last year, so he wasn't on my team.

Lost a tough to the White Sox last night in my Rangers franchise. They had James Shields on the mound, I got 3 early runs on him but he settled down and was stingy for 6 innings. I had scoring chances against him but he kept finding a way out of trouble.

I had several backups in the game as we had played extra innings the night before and had Martin Perez who has been pretty bad all season with an era north of 6.00 but last night he was pin point with nearly every pitch, only gave up 1 run through 8 innings while only throwing 88 pitches.

But I just had a hunch things weren't going to go well in the bottom of the 9th as I proceeded to bring in my closer Keona Kela instead of giving Perez a shot at the complete game.

Abreu leads off and doubles on a flair down the line which should have been a single but Mazara took his sweet *** time getting the ball back in. (I really wish they'd fix this, probably my biggest gripe with the game) Abreu's run means nothing though so I settle down and try to get the next guy but he singles to left and Abreu scores. I forget the players name but they pinch run for a guy who has quite a bit of speed. I manage to keep him on first, keeping the double play intact, and strike the next guy out.

The speedy Tim Anderson comes to the plate and on a 1-2 count I throw a changeup low and on the outside and bam the perfect double play but Drew Robinson boots it and both runners are safe. Next up is Nicky Delmonico who's done nothing the whole game but laces a double down the right field line on the first pitch and I've got no chance with Anderson's speed. Blown save and we lose 4-3. It was going to be tough to turn that double play on Anderson but man that was gut wrenching to not even get the lead runner.

See if we can bounce back in the next one and split the series. 20-27 on the season.
