Is there a way to move people in the bullpen around? I can't seem to find a way and whenever I move pitchers between LRP, MRP and SU it just automatically places them wherever within those subgroups. Furthermore, does it even matter?

I don't think there is and I don't think it matters (don't quote me on it, though).

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well, the worst case scenario has happened in my Yankees franchise. The ALDS is headed back to New York for game 5. At least this year the final game of the series is at Yankee Stadium.

In game 3 headed to Houston up 2-0, McCullers carved us up through 5.1 innings allowing just one hit, a solo shot from Gardner to lead off the ballgame. That would be the only run we scored all game. 6 innings of 2 run ball from Gray was wasted. Tying run was left on third in the 9th. 2-1 Astros win.

Game 4 in Houston, CC Vs Verlander, Gardner opened up the game with another solo shot, 2 more runs were brought home in the inning. 3-0 Yankees. The Astros quickly responded with a 2 run shot from Altuve off CC in the bottom half. Each team scored 1 run in the 3rd. A solo shot from Walker in the 4th put us up 5-3. another solo shot, this time from Judge in the 8th put us up 6-3. Fast forward to the bottom of the 8th, that’s when everything went south. A 5 run 8th for Houston gave them an 8-6 lead going into the 9th. Kahnle, Robertson, and Betances were all responsible for the disaster. Devenski entered the game to close it out. Game ended with the tying runs stranded on second and third. 8-6 Astros win.

Devastating to head into Houston flying high with a 2-0 lead with 2 chances to close it out and then come up empty. Now both teams seasons are on the line, win or go home for both teams.

After Keuchels unsatisfactory outing in game 1 the Astros have decided to send Morton to the mound with everything on the line. The Yankees will turn back to Severino and hope he can come up clutch after a very poor 1st postseason start. Tanaka may be available out of the pen in emergency if Severino starts getting pounded again.

Every game in this series has come down to the wire. Not one has disappointed. Twists and turns all over the place. This is it, all hands on deck, on to Game 5.

It matters if you sim games, as the CPU will put your pitchers in to certain situations based on their assigned roles (for example if your starter is knocked out after 3 innings its likely your LRP who gets the call). Otherwise it doesnt matter, aside from the slight morale boost that your closer will get for being named the closer.

In my experience setup guys (SU) arent used often by the CPU in simmed games, so it may be worthwhile to keep your best non closers in "MRP" status.

Think the CPU waits too often / is too situational with the setup guys.

This is true. I never put someone in the second SU spot as it is almost never used by CPU.

                  Noob question.

In my franchise Verlander and McCann have a down red arrow next to overall and he, and others, have -1 over attributes. What does that mean. Morale screen shows bumps in ovr but the other screens show negative.

                  Thanks,

                    Thanks,

Down arrow on OVR means the changes have led to his OVR dropping.

The -1 is that he's lost a little off the areas it's over. Early on, this happens but usually changes based on performance and age (or, more accurately, service time I believe). There's a random component. Some players will fall off faster, grow faster, hit growth spurts, etc. Performance can have a big impact in this surprise growth/decline rate.

Morale change is different and applied differently, but does factor in. So, if Morale shows something like 81 -> 84 and his OVR is 84 with a down arrow, it means that his base ratings have dropped to 81 but with morale, it's effectively at 84.

                    Initial: 82
                    Progression: -1
                    OVR: 81
                    Morale change: +3
                    Effective OVR: 84

BTW, this can change further via coaching effects. You can see that in game, sometimes the ratings displayed in game are different than the ratings you see on his card in the franchise itself. That's the impact of coaching.

                      WORLD SERIES GAME 1:
                      Tigers 9 Cubs 2

Game one is in the books. Michael Fulmer shut down the Chicago Cubs, and Miguel Cabrera and Nicholas Castellanos drove in three runs each, as the Tigers beat the Cubs 9-2 to take a one game to none lead in the 2018 World Series.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back. In the bottom of the first, D.J. LeMahieu doubled home Alex Croix, and the Tigers were out to a 1-0 lead. Miguel Cabrera then followed with a double of his own, scoring LeMahieu, and the Tigers had a 2-0 first inning lead. The Tigers added two more in the third, on a Cabrera RBI double, and a Nicholas Castellanos Sac fly to right, making it 4-0 Detroit. James McCann homered in the 5th, making it 5-0 Tigers.

Meanwhile, Michael Fulmer was shutting down the Cubs. Fulmer went seven and a third innings, allowing just four hits, and four walks, striking out seven. He didn't give up any runs. Cubs starter Jon Lester went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, two walks, striking out three. Matt Tucker came on in releif, and didn't fair much better, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings of work.

Nicholas Castellanos doubled in two runs in the bottom of the 7th, and Walter Agua (pinch hitting for Hunter Pence) followed with an RBI single, putting the Tigers ahead 8-0. Cabrera would add another RBI in the 8th, this time on a sac fly to center. The Cubs would finally get on the board in the 9th inning, on a two run home run to center off the bat of Wilson Contreras. The home run came off of rookie Paul Corba, who pitched the final inning and two thirds.

The World Series will continue tomorrow night at Comerica Park in Detroit. Game two starters are Kyle Hendricks (1-1, 1.80) for the Cubs against Francisco Liriano (1-0, 3.46) for the Tigers. The Series will then shift to Chicago's Wrigley Field for games three, four, and five. Game three starters are scheduled to be Yu Darvish (1-1, 5.19) for the Cubs against Rick Stava (2-0, 2.57) for the Tigers. Game four starters are Jose Quintana (0-1, 4.38) for Chicago against Mike Fiers (1-0, 3.60) for the Tigers.

TIGERS WIN GAME TWO 6-3, TAKE 2-0 LEAD IN 2018 WORLD SERIES

The Detroit Tigers will head to Chicago with a commanding two games to none lead in the World Series, following Thursday night's 6-3 win in game two. Chicago just can't seem to get a rally going. Detroit appears poised to win it's first World Championship since 1984.

Game two started much like game one did. Detroit got out to an early lead, and then a big inning put the game away. The Tigers went up 1-0 on Kyle Dutcher's first inning triple, scoring Miguel Cabrera with two outs. The Cubs got that run back in the third, when Albert Almora Jr. hit an infield single, scoring Javier Baez, tying the game at one.

However, a four run fourth inning by the Tigers basically put the game away. Victor Martinez singled to left, scoring two, and then Pat Lemmon drove in two more with a single to center. Tigers led 5-1 after four innings.

The Cubs would inch closer in the fifth, when Ian Happ homered to left off starter Francisco Liriano, cutting the lead to 5-2. In the sixth, Kris Bryant homered to left off of Liriano, making it 5-3. But Liriano got out of any further trouble. He would end up pitching seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, two walks, striking out seven.

Kyle Dutcher homered in the seventh off of reliever Mike Montgomery making it 6-3. Joe Jimenez relieved Liriano in the eighth inning, and retired the Cubs in order, striking out one. Shane Greene came on in the ninth, and recorded the save.

The Cubs now head home facing an 0-2 hole. Game three will be Saturday night at Wrigley Field. Yu Darvish faces off against rookie Rick Stava. Game four will be Sunday night Jose Quintana vs Mike Fiers. Game five will be Monday night, if necessary. Jon Lester against Michael Fulmer.

A bad April turned into a worse May/early June. We find our selves dead last in the division after easily winning it last season. We are still ranked as the 4th best team in the league so this really baffles me. Tim Anderson and Leody Taveras have been terrible at the top of the lineup (.231 and .218 averages). Abreu, Moncada and Garcia are having solid years. 2018 top draft pick Johnny Shinjo is leading the team in HR (13). Vladimir Guerro JR. Has struggled since joining the team.
We need to turn this thing around in June or we could possibly see ourselves outside the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Well, after dealing with slideritis, and dozens of roster releases and updates I realized that i am waaaaay to OCD for MLBTS 2018.

That being said, I love the sport of baseball and I love the gameplay of The Show.

So, here is what I've done........

Picked the team I grew up rooting for (Tigers)
                              Downloaded Sony rosters
Absolutely refused to touch sliders (any of them)
                              Started my franchise

                              Here's the thing:

                              - the game is tuned the best out of the box as it has ever been. Most slider makers (and they make good ones) only move off default sliders by 1 or maybe 2 anyways.

                              - the hybrid or OSFM rosters are tremendous, but I like the idea of using Sony's rosters, because they are programmed to play a long-term franchise. I know, I know -but so many of the players are "fake". True, but the 40-man for all 30 teams are 100% real (minus 2 guys on the Astros, so I just imported from OSFM to take care of that). I was so tired of worrying about service time and salaries, that I'll just roll with what Sony laid out. Lastly on the rosters, although the roster makers are great, the way franchise is programmed in this game, the majority of those real minor leaguers won't develop anyways. Once 2 or 3 seasons pass, a lot of your players will be auto-generated by the computer anyways (because of the draft, retirements etc.). So you'll still be left with a roster with plenty of "fake" players.

Anyways, not saying I am right or wrong, just decided to dumb down my franchise process, so I can enjoy PLAYING and not trying to make this baseball universe "perfect", because I realize that'll impossible. after all, it's still a video game.

Man I am with you. I try and make it too real life myself. But I do like the osfm rosters. Keep a little realism in it.
