Are you using zone or directional hitting and why?

      Zone hitting.

I've always used some hitting, just a personal preference.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yankees Franchise (30 team control) with:

I play every inning of all 162 games + playoffs and quick manage all spring training games.

I like to make it my own and let things play out how they're gonna play out in the game, so won't necessarily keep on par with Yankees real life roster moves (Wade, Holder, Bird & Ellsbury on DL)

I've run 2 test sim Franchise's to see how the ratings that the game came with will play out over the course of a season. I thought the ratings appeared too low at first for many players, but so far the results have been very accurate and realistic. The one and only problem I see with ratings is Didi Gregorius. In the first he hit .236 with 11 HR and in the 2nd he hit .249 with 12 HR. I will probably give him a small manual ratings boost as I see him performing much above these levels. His power ratings come in at only 58 vs R and 40 vs L. Way too low IMO.

Like I said, I won't necessarily follow along with exactly what Boone and Cashman are doing so I will tinker with my own lineup throughout spring training and probably into the regular season as well.

A lot can change but as of now my projected roster will be as follows:

        vs. RHP
        Gardner LF
        Judge RF
        Stanton DH
        Gregorius SS
        Sanchez C
        Bird 1B
        Walker 2B
        Hicks CF
        Drury 3B

        vs LHP
        Gardner LF
        Judge DH
        Stanton RF
        Sanchez C
        Gregorius SS
        Hicks CF
        Bird 1B
        Walker 2B
        Drury 3B

vs RHP is basically set. vs LHP I might try a few things such as:
-Sitting Bird, Walker at 1B, Torreyes at 2B batting 9th
-Sitting Gardner, Stanton in LF, Judge in RF and in some way rotate DH whether that is Drury or Walker and play Torreyes (.330-something vs LHP last year), or give Sanchez a day at DH and bat Romine 9th

This will depend on matchups and how hot/cold Torreyes, Bird, and Gardner are.

        Moving on....

        Bench

        Romine C
        Torreyes 2B, SS, 3B
        Ellsbury OF
Maybe Austin as a 1B and corner outfielder, but I like the idea of taking a 3 man bench and 8-man bullpen

        Rotation

        Severino
        Tanaka
        Sabathia
        Gray
        Montgomery

Not planning on giving Monty any competition for the 5th spot.

        Bullpen

        Green LR
Warren MR (will occasionally use for multiple innings)
        Kahnle MR
        Shreve (L) MR
        Betances SU (7th)
        Robertson SU (8th)
        Chapman CP

If I decide to start with 8-man bullpen, I will look at Holder, Heller, Gallegos, and maybe others in Spring Training.

        Really excited about this team.

Please give feedback and suggestions! Thanks!
Also thinking of platooning Ellsbury vs RHP and Hicks vs LHP. At least in the game, Hicks isn't rated too highly and just going by the ratings, Ellsbury is superior against righties. Maybe I'll do Hicks vs LHP and then alternate starts against RHP... In the exhibition games I've been playing while waiting for OSFM, I've found myself starting Hicks always but usually pinch hitting Ellsbury against righties out of the bullpen. I think he's gone 2 for 4 in pinch hit spots so far. Of course franchise will play differently than individual play now games.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

At the end of my first season. I know I have a problem. I play roughly 35-40 games of the regular season.

I am the Cubs. Went 95-67. Yet finished 10 games back of the Brewers who were absolutely unstoppable this season.

I had Bryant and Contreras as my All Stars. My team was struggling in June I was about 40-33 and my #5's in the rotation were struggling. Tried Chatwood and Smyly, both were horrible. So I traded for Cole Hamels from the rebuilding Rangers. He was great for me. My rotation was stacked.

Then comes early August. Contreras goes down with a torn MCL. Out 6+ months. Devastating. I do a post trade deadline trade for Tyler Flowers, as I didnt trust Jimenez with the starting role. Flowers was actually really good the remainder of the season.

We had to play SF and Bumgarner in the Wild Card Game. I went with ole reliable in Jon Lester. SF put up 3 runs in the second, and I knew it would be a tough hill to climb.

I kept chipping away until I tied it in the 6th, and KB hit a solo HR in the 8th to take a 4-3 lead. Strop closed it down (Morrow was HORRIBLE this season) and I move on to face the team with the best record in baseball the Brewers, with MVP Domingo Santana.

If it's the latter and they go to another team, it's really difficult to find where they went - you have to scroll through the complete list and try to hunt it down.

In previous years, it would pop up in a text box on your screen after every day you sim.

For a game that is all about making Franchise more streamlined and in-your-face, this seems counter-intuitive.

Also don't like how you can't do the renew/tender contracts before you do some of the others. I get them separating the two to make it easier to manage but let us do it all at once. I like signing my minor league prospects/depth before anything else.

            This.

Plus I hate the offseason free agent menu with the Polaroid pics. Very cumbersome.

            In short...

In season menus are massive upgrades.

Off season menus took a step back.

Question for people that use OSFM rosters.

I never really noticed before, because I usually just check my teams roster and roll. However I had started a new franchise for fun on 17 a few weeks ago, I noticed that for the injured players that are put in Class A, the AI teams don’t move them up to the majors, even though they aren’t injured in game.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is there a reason I’m not getting the options to sign FA or even sign my own until much later in the offseason? Last year(in my franchise) was fine, but this offseason I just started getting the popups of the FA signings before I even had the option to sign anyone. I also couldn’t resign/exercise options on my own FAs either and didn’t know they signed with other teams until I saw they weren’t on my roster. I have a backup save but this is really bad

Update: reloaded my old save and the problem is the menu to offer arbitration won’t show up. What am I supposed to do??

The only good thing about the off-season menu is that they separated the type of signings(tender contracts, arbitration, free agents). That’s part of it is pretty awesome and helpful.

In my Colorado legend fantasy draft, Griffey Jr blasted 4 homers to go along with 7 RBIs in a 13-1 route. Scherzer had 18 Ks

Braves update: For whatever reason when my save carried over, it was the Indians instead of the Yankees against me in year 2. Indians took games 1 and 2, game 1 was a 5-1 game, game 2 we were blown out 10-0, nothing much to report on from those. Game 3 however, going back home, our ace Teheran on the hill vs Carlos Carrasco, Teheran's first pitch, he gets injured and I replaced him with Max Fried, our 5th starter all year who pitched fairly decent, but became a bullpen, length guy in the playoffs. and he was magnificent, came in and threw 8 innings with 5 hits, 1 run and 13 K's. Just a great performance and the bats woke up, 2 run homers by Tim Beckham and Manny Machado in inning #3 got us going and we never looked back, ended up winning 6-1 and added solo shots from Lorenzo Cain and Mike Zunino. Was a huge win for us to get back on track. Game 4 will be pitting Sean Newcomb vs Indians Ace Corey Kluber. Will be a tough one

Haven't played the show since 14 and this is my first on the current gen. What are the advantages of 30 team control in 18?

Should I wait to start my franchise or do updates apply to franchises?
